Soooooo did not make it in time for CHoW, but I still want to finish up the piece so here is the latest on that.
I also decided to try making more pieces from imagination like the ol head in a tank. Kind of hard to figure out the colors and values since there is no ref, but still lots o fun.
Then just boring head studies and some stuff from my actual sketchbook. Using a brush pen on a bus is not easy, but it is fun.
As always any crits or comments are welcome, really would like any advice to help push me further.
Study things for today. 99% 30 sec gestures. And a hand or ten.
Made the horrible mistake of getting Dishonored , so I probably wont be to productive for a while. For today some butt studies and a few head block outs.
A tribute to the game that is sucking away all my time.
Haven't been to productive recently. Got a new job and its eating up all my time. A small update on my Dishonored fanart. Feeling better about this composition and pose than the first attempt, but while drawing this I definitely noticed 3 things I desperately need to study.
Clothing- Folds man, how do they work
Hands- Its an art in itself
Environments- You see that stuff in the background? Yeah, no fucking idea what that stuff is.
Any crits are welcome, I really want to finish this one.
Messed around with some text in a imge. This was the first idea to come to mind.
Some scribbles while at work and an Alchemy sketch.
Been a long time since I posted. Got super busy with work.
Any way, here is some stuff
Still study, self portrait and some very crappy torsos.
Hey man, really digging the Dishonored fanart and that Smash illustration! One thing that I noticed on the latest portrait that you posted is that his nose appear to be broken and that his jaws might need a bit more work. Do you flip the canvas a lot? Otherwise I would really recomend it. Nice studies overall, keep em coming!
Alchemy completely suits your style, these all are really nice! I liked your mirror sketches so much!
Bjulvar- Thanks for the feedback, really wish I had the drive to finish up that Dishonored one. Just seems like too much work haha. And as for that portrait, if you are talking about the self portrait one, then unfortunately, my nose is crooked. If you are talking about the LoTR study, I can kind of see how his nose might be upturned a bit too much. Thanks for the advice!
Kaush- Thanks! I really need to get back into Alchemy, it really helps out with pulling ideas out of nowhere.
Been a long time since I posted and unfortunately I have not been studying too much since then. Have some studies from the past week when I decided to get back into gear.
Have a few one hour paint studies from a book I bought recently.
New self portrait, few head studies. Some bad skulls. The typical stuff.
Also have a RIDICULOUSLY large file with a bunch of anatomy studies on it ranging anywhere from 30s to 30 min. I started out very zoomed out and then zoomed in and started filling it up. Included a few zoomed in shots and a picture of the full thing zoomed out.
Hopefully I can keep up this new study pace. Any advice for figure drawing would be helpful. Really want to get the most out of my time and im not sure if I am practicing well.
Was working on the LoL digi contest and missed out on submitting it by seconds. Ended up tossing in a background that I wasnt all too pleased with and some colors on the characters that weren't ideal. Anyway here are some shots from that and a couple face studies. Gotta speed up the art process, or figure out a new more effective one. Anyway, had a lot of fun working on this
And for any LoL players the story for it was going to be Garen practicing his signature move on a carousel while Fiddle plays the role as practice dummy. Also Amumu had to be in there, if not to just be sad.
Trying to get a bit looser with my process
Second of the night, 1h30min. Really having fun with these.
2 hour thingy for tonight.
Is that...a T'lan Imass? You magnificent bastard, I'm not the only one to draw them!
Overall this is an awesome sketchbook; a lot of variation in your style and subject matter and you seem to be practicing everything you need to be practicing. I'll check back; you've inspired me!
Haha, oh man I was wondering if anyone would get that reference. Good to see another Malzan fan on here.
For today I have an unfinished photo study and a "...what went wrong here" 1 hour space marine. I couldnt get this guys pose down in the time I allotted myself and his legs were just driving me nuts. The coloring got out of hand as well, I started clamping shadows on these so I wouldnt see pitch black but unfortunately I get it back there anyway. :/ gotta work on that.
*edit* Super quick leg fix, was mainly what was bugging me... had to do it

Thanks, I definitely need to do more of those. I started doing those after I purchased this giant Natural History book, and just started picking things at random.
My one hour concept for the night, unfortunately unable to get to a stage with color or a presentable piece... gotta get faster.
One hour Zbrush warmup this morning. Gotta keep up with 3d stuff!
Busy and lazy... Great combination. All of these were drawn on my phone/tablet/awkward bulge in pocket Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
I like your smash peace from post 37 , it is a nice idea and well executed.
It expresses a lot of movement in its particular way as well. Also great job with the
3d render in post 53. I normally am not a big fan of these, but this one i really enjoy!
The nose, the chin, the eye expression and shape, the overall thing is great!
Also i like how you choose your colors. The figure studies need more polishing, but you
are getting there by practicing. I would suggest paying more attention to the overall flow
and that basic flow line.
Cool stuff so far! Good to see you have a lot of ideas!
If I can help at all, do your anatomy and figure studies traditionally, it helps eliminate a variable (i.e the awkward pen stylus). Try go deeper with your values, so far they all seem to be very much in the midtones. Keep posting!
I'm a peacock, you gotta let me fly!
Thanks for the feedback!I will definitely start hitting the fundamentals again. Hopefully I will be able to pump out some anatomy studies tonight. Also I am constantly struggling with the whole getting a wider range in values thing. When I'm working on something out looks fine then I step back and its so washed out. Will try to push that in the future.
I have also felt that my work lacks a certain rhythm and movement to it. Other than working on gesture drawings do you know of any resources that could help me out with this?
2 hour study on my Note 2
Some GNote2 Sketches.
