Hey all! I am new to this forum and was wondering if there were any Grad students taking any 3d courses or in the Animation or Modeling Masters program. I myself have finished Figure drawing 2 and Drawing 3 with a B+ and an A respectively, so I know how to illustrate well. I've picked up a pencil after not drawing for like 3 years and just awesome stuff is coming out. So I know if accepted, I will draw like crazy! But first some questions:
In your portfolio, must you show more Drawn pieces, whether by hand or finalized in photoshop, more than 3d renders?
Does the animation and modeling masters put more emphasis in having a strong basis in Illustration?
When you get in the program, do you already have to be a whiz in Maya or in 3d application, or can you be at a beginner to intermediate level and just learn the rest?
If needed, they ask you to take some "Catching up classes" and then go into the masters. How long does this usually take? 1 semester? 2?
Can you guys also recomend what teachers for Modeling and Animation are awesome as well! ThankS!!!!!
Im majoring in production design and 3d animation/modeling at the Art institute of dallas. I if you want to do strictly 3d animation than you need to have very strong 3d modeling/texturing/lighting/animation skills! So focus more on your Demo Reel video that displays your 3d modeling or animation skills; you will make this video for potential employers in that field. But if you want to just be a concept artist and draw for a living then you want to be drawing like 8 hours a day and have extreme skills! and an excellent portfolio displaying use of different types of media.
