Illustration of the Week #25: Classic Movie Poster Remake
This is a one week topic. This weeks topic was suggested by Kafka Dreams.
This weeks topic is Classic Movie Poster Remake.
A big studio has contacted informed you that you have been selected to be part of a team of artist with one vital task.
The studio is re-releasing old classics and it's your task to create fresh and exciting new posters.
That's right gentle ladymen, your task this week is to create a new poster for one of these classic movies:
- Casablanca (1942)
- Seven Samurai (1954)
- The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)
- The Great Dictator (1940)
If you have any other movies you'd like to do instead, feel free to ask. But hey, let's stick to old movies, okay?
Here is some inspiration for you.
The deadline is Sunday 20th of May, 23:59 GMT

I know I screwed up with my last[also my first ever] IOW submission, but I'm gonna make up for that with this contest..will make sure I remember all the rules this time...
So here goes..I think I'm gonna go with The Seven Samurai..let's see..
Not big on Casablanca, But those other 3 are all personal favorites of mine, if I had to choose, I would have to go with "the great dictator" not because its my fav exactly, I would just love to do a graphic with a quote from his speech at the end, gives me shivers every time i hear it!
OK, here is a really crappy sketch of my idea... I wonder if this is a good idea because it may be not as exciting as it should be for the movie The Good, the bad and the ugly.
Anyway, the whole film is about three men who basically want to have some treasure, and I thought about focusing on that treasure instead of the three men.
My idea is showing only that treasure and their hands trying to grab as many coins as possible.
OK this is one of the worst sketches I have done, but I do not have time for a proper one right now ^^; will work more on it later. :>
really wish i had time for this, ow well . . . . . .
just a little something a brain storm idea . . . . .
i thought lee van cleef was the bad?

Metropolis is allowed, PxelSlayer.
I scrapped my first idea, here is a new sketch:
I was thinking that these men are standing in some kind of triangle in the movie and decided to do something with that. I hope it does not look too weird.
oh my gosh pxelslayer's entry looks so good already 0_0
Finally finished uni for the summer, so can get active again at last. This is my most promising thumbnail so far, final will be twice this size. Might do some more thumbs before starting on the finished piece though, you never know. Going to do some typography work too, try get the title working well.
Trying out different versions now, I thought about doing a cutout/silhouette cover, but it doesn't work too well with this silhouette. Maybe if I had the three characters together as one silhouette it'd be big enough. Might try out some simple graphic covers, and experiment with the headless "the man with no name" cover some more, but we'll see.

Damn. I was on vacation all last week and totally missed this.
I have a hella good idea for Seven Samurai too.
The most beautiful thing we can experience is the
mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all
science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who
can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe,
is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.
