good job on the character piece, is that copied or from you? its looking pretty cool I like the design. I also have probs creating value scales when drawing imaginary pieces. I guess lots more life studies espc of different materials to see how light and darks play out. also still try and focus more on rendering with form to create that overall 3d feel. Also think you might benefit from some longer value studies using still life set ups where you build up the tone gradually using a range of pencils, iv found that doing that has helped me a lot in terms of my rendering and smoothness although I still have some ways to go.
but its good that your mixing up the drawing and drawing some stuff for fun it can be a reward for doing all those studies.
I like your studies! I'm doing some studies myself. Good job on the hands.
ja1307 - Thanks man. The first character is from a game called heroes of newerth. I used the original concept art and in-game model as reference but came up with my own pose and made a few changes as well. I agree that longer and more frequent value studies will help with the rendering.
JanLoos - Thanks! You should put a link to your sketchbook in your signature.
Kinhe - Thank you. I'm taking Peter Han's class this semester and it's helping me a lot with thinking in 3 dimensions.
Here's a mishmash of random things I've been working on. I really should invest in a scanner. The quality of these photos are terrible.

Nice to see you do ore of your own thing to go with yopur studies, something I am not doing at the mo. Good to see you still updating as well. Your def improving espc in your understanding and expression of light and dark values its good stuff man.
Damn I haven't updated this thread in forever. I've been slowly doing more and more digital work since my last post and I'm happy to say that I've gotten pretty comfortable with it. I'm still working on my fundamentals though! Perspective is a major subject that I plan to cover within the next few months.

Fantastic! I wish I had more to add.
