I like to call myself launt on the internet and I like drawing as well. I've always liked it, but have never been able to do it for hours a day. I would get easily bored, which explains that my skills nowadays (for being almost 20 years old) are so so.
At the beginning of Januari this year, I motivated myself to start again and to keep going. So far I draw at least an hour a day and I find myself getting more and more excited with it.
So I'd like to show you some recent work. If possible, I'd like to get some advice. I find myself quite comfortable with drawing the outlines of the bodies (I'm drawing anatomy), but I do struggle with shading.
These body fragments actually look quite good
I think that your approach to shading is limiting you a bit. You seem to start arbitrarily in one part of the image, and then do that part in a very detailed way without doing the rest of the image. Why not working in layers? For example first layer with all the shadows, even the lightest ones, in the same light tone, then building deeper shadows with every following layer.. In that case you would not have the problem of one part being almost done, and not even beginning on other parts.. and the figure would sort of make much more sense as a whole, and not just a sum of fragments
I personally enjoy drawing with ballpoint pen as well, but maybe experimenting with different sketching pencils would be a good thing to try. It's difficult to lay on wide areas with a ballpoint pen, and it can take only a couple of strokes with a graphite stick.
It took me probably three months to get this last drawing finished. I'm rather satisfied with it, mainly because i've never come so far with a drawing. I'll try to put more time in drawing, for the coming month.
