It's nice to see people already being so active in this topic.
.. and a couple of loose sketches:
@obier: those sketches look awesome!
just fooling around a bit:
My first attempt to CHoW. Hope I'll find find some time to finish
@Ironbyte nice sketches, like the middle one best.
@Aeronik cool stuff.
@The Fez very thoughtful designs.
@Parsakooooooiraaaa really cool sketches, I do like the first one a LOT more though. Think the set of the gas mask goggles makes it look like they're both looking up rather than at the artifacts.
@Saleem nice sketch.
@Panshi awesome :o the hand holding the device doesn't read clearly for me. I thought his arm terminated in a giant thumb for a moment.
@PeterHurman coming along nicely. That rim light is making him float over the background though.
@obier /messes kecks. 2nd one is unfathomably awesome.
@cedule cool sketches. Bit of a zulu vibe.
@Loengrin love all the details.
bow-legged scuba-biker-stalker in ghillie:
pixel tuner- good rule
My first CHOW - on a topic that's way out of my comfort zone!
Just a few sketches to try and find something I like. Not happy yet as I'm not sure I'm filling the brief - I think I'm going a bit too steam-punk and not modern enough.
So far everyone else's are looking awesome
Please drop by my sketchbook and help me improve!
I was inspired by the brief, but I have no experience with the game and wanted to stay away from copying it. Maybe I went a little too far...
My take on it: An alien stalker is trying to retrive its lost/stolen components so that they can return home.
@pixeltuner: haha true
@Parsakoira: so far yours is the one which fits to the brief the most and it looks really cool....so please keep it coming
all my sketches turn out kinda....meh...perhaps i should restart with a completly different approach...
WIP for the final.
I'm having to fight the urge to throw a gas mask on him
or some such thing. It would definitely be conducive
to the setting, but it's difficult to characterize your
character when you've got their face covered up. At least
it is for me.
I posses next to no experience painting backgrounds and
environments, so this is a good experience for me. But
screw painting a Ferris wheel. No way man. Collage that
mofo and then HIT IT WITH THE MEDIAN FILTER. While
I'm of the opinion that every tool in Photoshop should be
leveraged to some degree, I'm always afraid that I'm
just making myself lazy. Don't like the colors? Hue shifter.
Not dynamic enough? Overlay layer.
One of these days I'll teach myself to paint legit.
Here's a couple more quick sketches. I'm not quite sure which to go ahead with but am leaning towards merging the elements from the second and third characters from my last post. Thanks to everyone who let me know their favourites.
@Pixeltuner: I'm sorry to have broken the new rule but when will I get the opportunity to draw so many gas masks again?
Trying another take on this since as Parsakoira pointed out the last one didn't fit the brief well... still want to be different though.
Just a silhouette so far. About 1.5hrs.
Corp. Stalker I envision these guys as being well equiped with all of the latest tech. The creature with him is the result of one of the experiments with the alien artifacts.
I'll have to add some post apocoliptic elements somehow, but here's what I have.
Nice stuff so far. Here's my take on the Stalker. I watched Hanna recently, and have been interested in seeing the Fincher version of "the girl with the dragon Tattoo". It's a badass story, I'm hoping he does it justice.
When I hear Stalker, I always picture a dude in a Trans AM parked outside of Beibers house. It's tough to not do something like that on this topic. It will have to wait.
@Bnoch that's awesome, but her head looks freakishly big to me. She's what, 6 heads tall atm? Also slightly confused by the plumes of rocket exhaust emanating from dracula's castle. I assume this is a metaphor for man's constant... pursuit of... blood. In space.
/dons black polo neck and strokes chin thoughtfully
Not sure if I'll have time for this, but I started some thumbs. Any favorites?
In the game I found the SEVA suit really interesting as it vaguely reminded me of an astronaut. So for this design I'm trying to make the suit like an cosmonaut suit taken from a museum and modified for the Zone. The space suits are designed to keep an cosmonaut alive in extreme environments so imagine it would only take a small step to make it suitable for the zone aswell.
a western style stalker.. his lost arm has mechanisms that allows him to add other devices on
I figured the kind you want for this job is sturdy, young, quick and thrilled by a challenge. Based him off of UK footballers and rugby players with a little bit of longshoreman thrown in. Gear's a bit hodgepodge: football pads and cup, combat boot, truncheon leg, wetsuit, tap light, bandolero with phone case and "last resort" grenade, cosmonaut helmet, air tank, gas mask, bandaid. I like to think of this as the last image we see of the guy, holding up his prized nuclear, alien, eyeball-squid, before a competitor snipes him right between his protruding ears. Planning to do this up in sepia as a photo. Should be fun!
Aeronik, looking back through what's gone up so far, yours really made me smile! Great stuff. Looks like we were thinking in a similar vein.
Wow really great entries
