http://theartorder.com/2011/08/26/differentiate-or-die/I am struck by the “sameness” of them all. So many folks have the same look, the same style, the same mark making techniques. It’s almost as if there is this fantasy/sci-fi Photoshop filter running around the internet.

"...the ideas are what matter most" Doug Chiang
Being creative enough to come up with something new and memorable is a LOT tougher...and on top of that it needs to be presented with pretty top notch craftsmanship to be noticed and acknowledged.
Yea, different can get you noticed, hopefully in a good way
I was thinking something similar the other day. Especially when you participate in contests (like on ArtOrder) where everyone is illustrating the same concept or scene, you really have to push yourself to create a piece that views the subject in a different way. It's hard to impress the audience with technical mastery alone if your composition and concept is the same as everyone else's. (And the more specific the prompt, the more creative you have to be to stand out. Browsing through the 'Eowyn and the Nazgul' entries, there are very few images that truly stand out for being different and unique.)
art is all about abstraction , but people want to do a great scene of a hero killing something without thinking... or some cool stuff before knowing how to use triangles, tone and everything... and I'm not talking about realistic, comic book or a specific kind of art.
People dont want to think about how to make art, want simple patterns to do something like another artist did.
BUT its not a problem... like medical doctors, engineers ... there are people to do the job and peoplo who will think how to do the best job. A good artist is like a researcher..
sorry my crap english
