I almost have a masters degree in a French translation, but am not going to do anything with my education. Instead, I wan't to becone an artist and a designer. I've showed some of my designs (furniture, textiles, kitchen items) to a few friends, and they find them original and think I could make millions if I sold them. I have confidence in my ideas, I get new ideas all the time and I know I could sell some if given the chance. But the thing is I have no idea how since this is not my professional field at all and I don't know anyone in the business. I don't know how to approach companies (how should I present the product, what should I say in the e-mail, what kind of contracts should I sign...?) and also don't have any initial capital at all. I can't even afford registering my designs, so basicly anyone could steal them.
Any advices on how to get started? The beginning is always the hardest, so I could use some advice from people who know this field... I'd really appreciate it, thanks in advance for any input!
Wow. You have the same questions everyone has when they first make that decision to take a risk. I'm in the same boat myself, and my only guess would be to look at all the successfull people in the world, and know that most of them had the same questions. So, I bet all we have to do is move foward, be persistant, believe in what you do, and the rest will follow.
Good luck, and Go for IT!
And hopefully we'll see eachother at the top!

only thing i can say is "implied copyright." if trying to present your ideas to an american company, any tangible idea (anything on paper/model/writen out design/etc) has a legal implied copyright. put the copyright insignia on all your work if you have the fear of it being stolen. however if you can afford to copyright something through the government, i find it is definitely worth it. good luck. hope this helps.
We the unwilling, Led by the unknowing, Are doing the impossible, For the ungrateful. We have done so much, For so long, With so little, We are now qualified to do ANYTHING with NOTHING!
