SaiVix - Thanks very much man, motivate me to create
A really quick guy for whatever reason and then todays main paint. My compositions are all quite similar, In the beginning I tried to do tonnes of crazy compositions but couldnt pull them off so worked on the basics and im trying to slowly mix things up. Will be trying to do more varied compositions now, and work more on characters instead of envs.
Why are digital portraits so hard from imagination
Why is metal so hard from imagination
Why do my rocks look lame from imagination
Why cant I think of any non generic compositions from imagination
And why cant I make an environment with a blue sky work from imagination
One day I will be pleased with a sketch sheet. I think my figures from imagination are improving although mexican guy is super off. Renders and stuff are still annoying, need to do those master studies, any recommendations?
So I was away this weekend and drew only from life for 3 days (very highly unusual of me). I have drawings from the bus there and back, drawings of ruined castles and I finally got to do some figure life drawing
I wish we had longer poses in the life drawing, I felt myself rushing.
One of my more "boring" posts but I hope you enjoy it was a really nice change. Back to fantasy shortly.
Comments and critiques highly appreciated, thanks
Thanks for you kind words!
You are improving, even on the first page it was clear, and the digital is really catching up. I think it's be great to see as much energy in the pencil drawings, OR do as I did and ditch pencil - charcoal will force you to put the lines down visibly and ruthlessly :-)
Love the weird old man in 141!
Keep up the good work,
Thanks Jansi Ye I think i'll see what I can do with some charcoal
Quick env tonight, about 1 hour. Forest is an abomination.
Hello, so I completely revised the death produced last night and worked on some rocks and stuff. Actually learned some good new stuff about rocks but frustrated with the lighting.
Wow, I really like the waterfall. Would be nice to see the girl doing something more than posing though, although i can see how the current position fits with your style well.
Also, ok, I'm being silly and picky - but some of the water is falling from the top of the rock and it's not clear how it got there.
*drools over the fresh clean beautiful water*
Keep up the good work!!
Thanks Jansi! Ye the water shouldnt be coming out the top there I just felt it needed something but breaking laws of physics isnt the way to do it
nice!! i really like that last enviro, those changes you made worked great! keep it up!

Amazing sketchbook.. there is a lot through here I really love especially your figure sketches and studies.
My favorites though have to be the little 'robotic' concepts you throw in here and there throughout.. great stuff!
D art - Thanks man glad you think so
David - Thanks a lot man! Ye doing a robot every so often is fun, maybe should try a more srs mecha
Spent all of today on this self portrait, think I learned some stuff, paying more attention to strokes.

Nice job on the self-portrait, good solid drawing. A general critique I have is about the lighting in your work. Your self-portrait for example doesn't have any strong light sources, the light is very overcast and ambient. Try thinking about where your light source is and how the form would be lit by it. A good light source will show off more of the form of what you what you are studying. I hope that makes sense, keep up the great work!
jdem - Thank you
~Twig - Thanks man Yes Im really trying to work on more directed lighting I totally agree with you i'll be working on this you should see improvement
ART: Random girls and then first traditional art other than pencil for a long time, forgot how frustrating brushes and charcoal and stuff are, never do what you want, you cant reduce the big size. But this still has more form than any of my pencil works god damn it.
Dude. Great work, it's really inspirational to see how far you've come in 5 months. Great stuff keep on trucking. I can't wait to see what you can do in another short 5 months.
OrionsHavoc - Thanks a lot man really happy when people see the improvement Ive made, glad it motivates you
So for anybody interested I applied to Art School at the end of last year and I have 2 interview/folio assessment things for the same School for painting and illustration which is pretty cool. So today I did the first traditional painting in a long time to try and please them. Its still a WIP but it was very interesting. I have improved significantly at traditional since my last works however its still not as good as my current digital.
I am working with acrylics, if anybody has any tips please let me know.
I would like to work with oils but have not yet had the opportunity.
Does anybody have any tips on what colours I should have as my bases? all my older acrylic pieces and my new one dont really fit the spectrum of human skin, I go a bit yellow dno if its me or my paints or a mixture.
Anyway let me know what you think the painting is A3 in size - bad quality photo incoming:
good jobs on your environment and figuresI see a lot of improvement I like the way you use different brushes in your pieces especially the waterfall one, nice to see another teen on CA.org , come check by my SB if you ever get the chance
"Art is never finished, only abandoned." Leonardo Da Vinci
Blazingdimensions - Thanks bro
LastGen - Thank you! Yes trad media is quite fun
Illustration I'm working on. Something about it is lacking but now sure what, any thoughts?
Just wanted to say that your paintings are damn hot. Love the textures and the colours : )
connecting - Thank you very much man, highly appreciated
So today I finished up my current digi and trad pieces. I think I kind of killed the trad piece, wasnt sure what to do with him and couldnt get a decent picture but oh well.
Think illustration went ok, I know I can take all of these further but I dont know how. I need to breakthrough this barrier with my work.
Great Artists to study:
For your subject matter that seems to be a common theme (epics) I def suggest a frazetta.
Portraiture id go with a sargent or rembrant....but really any of the old masters are good to look at.
oh ya I like the progression man, shows dedication and the last portrait is coming along keep going with it!
Hey some of your figure drawing and painting is starting to look super nice! Keep it up! Best crit I can offer is in some of your figure drawings (I presume sketchbooks) is to start using bolder more confident strokes and just start practicing that. Ditch the lighter pencil and go with a nice black pen, and do 50 pages of that. You'll be amazed how much you learn when there is so much more at stake!
I love that waterfall with the rocks. Very nice sharp edged style.
I see a lot of use of custom brushes and textures in your digital sketches, I would recommend really cementing a knowledge of the hard and soft brushes.
My Sketchbook HAKUNA MATATA
Sprogis - Thanks for the recommendations man!
GrayHouse - Thanks for your continual comments in here man really appreciate it, will be trying some pen stuff soon
JaneMag - Thankyou, used more lasso than normal cause my edges to get blurry
Ratcub - Yes I agree need to focus on those basics
Random thing from tonight bleh why does everything I paint look blurry again now?

So I have been kind of freaking a lot about the future recently and what will be best to further myself. What I do know is I went through every page of Algenpfleger's sketchbook and I've never felt so inadequate. I will be starting a daily self portrait and doing more studies again and really pushing, I am fully motivated again its what I really needed.
I will also be trying to post everything I do here for documentation, no hiding.
So it's time to really start pushing again and get closer to the level of the top guys round here.
Todays work, not nearly enough.
Rejig of yesterdays fail, started some env thing but I think I need to leave envs for a bit I cant get past a certain stage without resorting to textures and stuff, need to break that.
And first of my daily self portraits, does not look like me but learning about edges and stuff.
Thanks Crazy Pills I'm glad it shows cuz I'm not seeing it myself just now, always pushing
Ye so today was weird. did some concept design guys in a very clean and structured way, feels weird and takes forever, bleh. Started my daily self portrait and ended up working on and off it all day because it sucked really hard and couldnt leave it. It still sucks hard its embarrassing and I dont feel I'm learning much from these so maybe I'll start the idea another time. Some sketch pages including another self portrait which sucked too. Frustrating day.
