Kevin - Thanks, what do you mean when you say more contrast, colour, subject matter or?
Mat - Thanks a lot, here is next batch
So today I tried to do some thumbs as I feel I really need to step up the interest of my compositions. Not used to them but I think with each one it made more sense how to go about it and last one came out nice so I took it further and am pleased with it. Theyre not great though so will be doing much more.
Also a sketchpage of an idea to go along with a poem a friend wrote. A study because I havent done one in too long, need to do a lot more studying and an attempt at an interior, I never do interiors so was weird but ye...
Reika - Thanks Ye I found myself losing that a bit at points, think im getting better at keeping the values on a worked on version but yes definitely something to look out for.
jdem - Thanks Ye I tried to be a bit more organised with my study and had 3 distinct layers, the girl stayed totally away from the background and I think its better that way, less hassle too.
Worked on the canyon some more but this is it I think, need to do some rock studies if Im going to be taking things like this further from imagination.
I need to start doing more than just a sketchpage per day its stupid but here it is anyway. Top 3 heads are from ref, figured I draw so many heads from the back might as well get it right. Need to do a lot more studies too, really do. Here is an env, dont usually do more scifi envs so was interesting. And a quick comp study of a Tom Scholes work, I will be doing quite a few comp studies of works when im "like that comp is awesome" the end/
Yo...your book is awesome! That girl study came out so well! You caught the vibrance so well! And im loving these enviros too! Yeah, nothing but ass pats from me today, haha.
Seage - Thanks man! Nothing wrong with an ass pat aha
First 5 pages are studies, last page is from imagination. I always do my figure studies on paper but I dont get any more used to drawing figures digitally which is where I really need them so I did some of my form studies in PS but trying to pull out the forms how I would if working with pencil, quite happy with it I suppose. Figures from imagination still need work obviously, I always make the faces too small for the body, and general faces need work, starting to do more face studies need to just stop avoiding on get on with them.
Im trying to tackle everything ive been avoidong just now and one is painting character design so here is where I am so far with some guy out in the snow.
working on this guy again today, when i took it to colour realised how comicy and dumb it looked, trying to go for a realistic look but I cant seem to get there and I dont know why, need more studies.
One thing you might could study in the future is materials. Start to study how light plays on metal and especially how snowy light plays on it.
You should also look into rooting your character more. Right now it looks kind of like he's just floating on a white blanket.
I know it's just a sketch, but let's try to start to push lighting more as well.
Like for example, the lighting gets all lost in those strange (fur?) pants he has.
Keep pushing, further and further. And you'll become great before you know it...
Hey, nice sketchbook and looks like you're varying your practice nicely. More anatomy would probably help a lot. Your environments and photo ref stuff looks good, keep it up!
Mat - Hey mat totally agree, keep saying I will be doing studies but I really will, materials being part of those. Thanks for the crit, will keep pushing.
Alex - Hey man thanks for stopping by Ye im trying to do a lot more study>apply thing now
Yochanan - Hey, ya cant get enough anatomy studies, more of those coming soon
So art has been weird. Last time posting this guy he is done bleh. Have barely touched my sketchbook so just getting back into it so here are a couple lame pages to get started again. These last two pieces have been very fun though, I find myself being able to spend longer on work as I find there is more to do and I can take them further which must be good so ye, here you go.
Today I thought I'd try a test for my livestream so did a face study on it, kind of weird on stream but I think I will try and do these more often.
The channel is here for future streams - http://www.livestream.com/seansevestre
Did not do much today I really need to step it up im not studying enough.
Telohs - It would appear we are aha Thanks man
Kungfoowiz - Thanks man appreciate you always stopping by here to give encouraging words
So ive been doing a lot of face studies, first 3 pages are studies 4+5 are imagination apart from random frazetta and 6+7 are studies. Think faces have improved, I make them long less often bleh.
And random quick env cuz i havent done digital in over a day I suck at this type of rock. Want to start more srs piece again soon. kbye
I love your pencil work!
Such clean lines and very little fuss as to what the content is. Keep up the good work! :3
Mat - Thanks for stopping by again man, appreciate the encouragement
Some sketches kind of from ref and messed with and some envs.
I think the material studies ive been putting off are really needing to be done, need some sweet metal and cloth for the guy in the last env.

Thanks wasabi at least you like my values aha, they are such a douche.
Something ive been working on last few days, thanks to Olly for helping me with some issues I was having with it. Next couple days will be nothing but studies, ive ignored them for as long as is possible, i need them very much now.

Woo so i finally started on some new studies. Here are 2 studies and a random quick figure thing from head. Really looking forward to looking more into colour and getting a more realistic muted palette
Beautiful work! I especially like how your pencils are coming along. Hopefully, I'll be able to take a deeper look through your book tonight. Great stuff, I'm looking forward to more, subscribed!
There are some nice stuff going on here and it looks like you're learning a lot! I would sugest trimming the lines a bit when doing realistic studies, as the reality is made of surfaces and not lines, for example the ornamentation on the streetlamps in the last post, you can easily see the brush used, and that's not optimal since computerbrushes aren't pretty at all. The headlights of the car are really well done though
CKLamb - Ah thanks a lot man pleases me alot to hear this
Axelga - Thanks for the tips will bear that in mind
random head girl and studieez. Really want my next batch of imaginative work to have a better palette. people always make things take so much longer.
You're doing and studying a lot, so you will get to the more realistic style.
Kust keep the studies up and pay a lot attention to your environment.
When you're sitting in the bus, ... just watch how the light falls, how some materials look like and imagine how you would paint them.
Sorround yourself with art everywhere.
Whether it's in your mind or with a sketchbook, go for it
Keep it up dude!
Thanks for the sketchbook visit. I notice that you're making great progress from page 1 to
now, so just keep doing what you're doing. I think you're doing all the right things.
I can't wait to see more soon; and next time hopefully I can offer a crit.
