Hurray, first attempt at the CHOW! Here's the sketches I have so far. I'm thinking nuclear winter. So this tribe, amputates it's limbs in order to conserve heat. They have a power pack on their back to provide heat, and power their limbs. They wear fur, have long hair, and cover most of their face from the cold.
closed haha thanks! i love the textures in your concepts! awesome. oh and i love the dude with his belly in a wheelbarrow, with tenticles sticking out of him haha.
Update..its 7am, ive been up all night. Ill finish off when i get up in the afternoon .
Godamn I might have nightmares now DTP.
Update for me; Y'all let me know if this looks too dark. I am going for dark so that it looks truly bleak for this fellow. But I am still trying to calibrate my new monitor and it is too light(which means my images appear too dark to others).
Yeah, it's kinda dark-ish.
closed can you like, do a step by step of your works? I'm kinda curious to know how you think when you work. Since you produce in such an insane speed, I have images of you in mind, drawing in a crazy speed, constantly giggleling and making sound effects, maybe drooling every once in a while and having one eye, that you have no controll over pld: xD
No, just kidding, but it was interesting to see how you work
Quinn Simones Damn man, I was I was ever commited that hard to sth in my life... Guess it really pushes your skills in what you really want to do. Somehow I can never really commit myself to sth...
Now crit the shit out of me!
Since this is the first time I'm entering in one of the community activities, I wanted to challenge myself in a new way. Instead of traditional thumbnails, I did a mannequin sculpt in Maya, then tinkered with it and moved things around till I had a form I liked. It actually took a lot longer than drawing thumbnails due to the amount of moving and manipulating limbs, but I find it more enjoyable than doing numerous sketches. It's like having your own personal mini photo-studio equipped with as many models as you could ever need.
It's great because forces you to think about the body not just visually, but also mechanically. You really have to have a good sense of the different kinds of joints and the ways the spine can bend or the sculpt will seem really off. You also learn a ton about perspective and how, even when you're drawing, you have to pay attention to the kind of lens you're simulating.
Once I had a form I liked, I printed it out and drew right on top of it. (I'm always amazed at the quality of posters on here who can sketch digitally. I'm an old-fashioned paper and pen kinda guy. I can paint digitally, but drawing on a tablet is a whole other beast that I have a lot of trouble wrapping my head around.) The sketch still needs work. I'm just hoping I'll be able to finish in time.

You guys are cracking! Closed: You're like an idea-machine gehe. Nice
I hope I can do some more this week, but I'm pretty booked with some freelance stuff.
DTP: What goes on inside your head dude?! Is that thing female? Are those lips I see downstairs?! Brilliant!
Closed: Dude you so need to turn your life around. I didn't until I was 30. If I'd woken up at 40 doing the same shit, I think I would have bought myself an AK47 as a special birthday treat. Then shared my happiness with the world I'm just yanking your chain of course... Or am I? My point is you've got oodles of talent and great ideas. Time to share your twisted offspring with the world!
closed wonderful work and you must have the best and most confusing name on CA ~
& that come from someone that obsesses like crazy and will drive myself down all the time and am to craven of my own moods that I've mostly avoided any sort of competitions/challenges over the years as I can drive myself crazy over my own pieces alone ~ and thanks for the tale. When I first began participating in Chow, I was going up against artists such as Poshspice ( Aly Fell), Bumskee, Trevor, and Jessibean, all who where at a pro level and have more stars beside there names then I can count. It was extremely intimidating. But I kept entering, I kept learning and most importantly I kept drawing and pushing myself, to the point of obsession. I still obsess
Current stage from yesterday + WIPs, roughs and a sketch that was half serious earlier during the week (the trench coat version - but early on I decided to push it in a different direction). Hopefully clearly a mutant etc. Still just throwing stuf at it so very muddy, need to sort that today/tomorrow ~ or I'll never make it. Don't like the current face (prefer the WIP and so, so will probably go again).

Howdy, this is my first CHOW as well, We'll see how it goes. Just the character himself for right now, He's a human living in a nuclear winter. Since supplies are hard to come by, a lot of his winter clothes are torn up and he uses old junk. Basically a cold homeless guy with a hunting rifle.
ARM THE HOMELESS

Last chance before "Finals" post. Anyone have any criticism?
Just started this one, better late then never Had to join this one.
Hope I can finish it. Any crits and comments are more then welcome
no87: Hey dude, I really like what you got going on, you have a strong grasp of form, but you have some structural issues.
I hope you dont mind, I did some drawing over your painting to show you what I mean.
Your guy is missing a pelvis, so the belt is kind of sitting on his blobby tummy area, so the forshorting makes him look like he's missing a few pieces in his spine. The ribs run straight into the legs, basically.
I also wanted to point out that your pose is really static, try adding some more dynamic movement to the body, otherwise it wont look alive.
Hope this helps
I think this will be my final, I dont think I can work that much more on this. We just had a terrorist attack in Scandinavia today and I feel pretty down, so I dont really feel like painting this weekend.
Anyway, great job everyone, lots of great material this week! Shouts out to closed, Mr Gadbury and Partisan.

wip2 or 3...
Update - so so, don't like the new face, the lower part of the body and I still have to sort out her left side (the right for us).
More background work and so on ~ so still need to work over most of the areas that's not in the detail shot below.

Dan - wow man, looks amazing already!! but her right thigh is bugging me (our left), i think where it is attached to the pelvis is too small, and then her thigh just bulges out like crazy compared to it. i think if it was a bit thicker it would look perfect.
I didnt work on it yesterday cuz I never actually GOT home yesterday. So here. More experimentation
