FunnyFace - Love your rendering style so far. Facial detailing is excellent
FragmentedChimp - Now you have two cool pieces to finish I really like the new one but I think my vote goes to the original.
Mes - tight sketching, solid dynamic pose
Jspayde - looking good so far. The arms looks a little heavy for her body/head. What about some shoes & a shadow to ground her a little more & balance out the color of the steam pipes?
Kafak - Your second comp gets my vote. Much more of a story + depth to character.
Cloudcan - Wow great start. Minor crit about composition feeling a little off which will probably be resolved once you detail out the hand.
Hi everyone, this is also my first CHOW.
I wanted to try and include or at least hint at all three elements mentioned in the brief. The doll, her creator and the unfortunate person whose lifeforce is being stolen.
So the idea is the circular contraption the doll is sitting on is giving her the life of the person trapped in the bubble/dome thing. There's just enough room in the composition I chose to show a panicked face inside the bubble. (or a least that's the plan).
I'm jumping into this one a little late, hope I can finish before the deadline. I still have a lot of detailing to do.
browning: fucking badass. think this is gonna rock, the giant apparatus is looking cool.
gadbury: coming along nicely. i like the decision of the mask for the face... that would probably be the thing to give away that she's not real before anything else would.
and mine: she's a dancer alright... a pole dancer.
obviously she has no soul yet...
Mr. Gadsbury: looking awsome, love the colors.
Browning: Man!! top idea. really love the composition.
Dirtsyndicate: I could fall in love on here
Was a bit busy this week but thought lets give it a go. I'm so afraid to put in some color.

good lord im killing myself over this and its looking like every type of vomit boiled over an open fire, next time its a sketch and a gradient. I'm giving up once and for all, unilt tomorrow.
my book o' doodles
Interested in some Team CHOW? i'm all for it :3
First time Chow, it's a bit late in the week but this is my sketch. Hopefully I can finish on time! There's so much amazing work being created here.
Cleaned up my work a bit. Hopefully I'll get some time to work on this some more. I know it looks a bit more scifi than steampunk currently, but I'm hoping to put some Victorian designs on the white pieces.
ugh late coming in. still looking for another job. I think I'm gonna go the genesis route where she's experiencing vitality for the first time.
@ Browning your composition has all that I was having trouble suggesting. Bravo!
@ TheDirtySyndicate your anatomy is gahgeous, I definitely feel weird for being attracted to an a.i.
Starting to get to grips with mine, adding the beginnings of background detail, i'm thinking of adding some sort of life force transfer energy from the dieing women to the doll
Worked on this last nite, not sure how to render it to look way better, i guess i'll just merge the layers down and paint over everything, i might add motion blur as well.
heres an update , ill probably call it final soon , criticism please . Really nice work everyone , im looking forward to seeing everyones final pieces . (yawn) too sleepy to type more .... C&C please !!!
PS: critique please
Holy crap there's some amazing pieces on here, and a surprisingly excellent effort for some first time chow posters!
I definitely would love to finish this, i'm having a lot of fun with it, i just hope i don't run out of time (like i usually do) ANY input, be it praise or harsh crit is very welcome. We don't grow as artists without a little struggle!

I've never participated in CHOW and I don't know if I'll be able to finish this one up but here's a quick sketch to get the juices flowing... wish I had seen this one earlier so I could put more time/thought into it...
First time participating in this. Just found out what Chow was, not likely to finish this in time, but at least it's something I'll have fun working on. My rendering skills are terrible but in the mean-time, I'll try to dish out some designs.
Some neat tutorials and studies

Hey all, update, got another hour or 2 in on this. Still fleshing it out obviously but trudging along. Crits/comments welcome but not expected at this early stage No time to comment, but had to one quick comment in there:
vibhas_virwani: Very cool, missed commenting on yours before and the color has only made it better. Some crazy details. Only one little nitpick, the right hand (her left) seems off slightly in the finger area.

my lil update for this evening. Thank you for all the feedback
Opened up the stance of the main unit and brought the doll unit forward a bit. Trying the seperate the individual units while still making it clear that they work in tandem.
Thinking of going with bronze & brushed steel for colours if not B&W.
Will have to work on pushing details more in a steampunk direction and not too cyber/mecha.
We all wear many different masks and while there are times when she may appear coy & cute, I am trying to convey her true nature, which is a lot more darker & sinister.
My Coppelia is tired of being treated like a sex object!!!
Just kidding, she's waiting for her cue.
So... I don't sleep... felt like working on this more
New sketch, same pose but fixed up some of the anatomical stuff... rougher sketch and then a sort of cleaned up version with more details and some fixed things...
her top extended arm is turning into a real one
I may not stick with this one but here we are for now

Progress... lineart still needs some work. And then I have to color I don't even like mine anymore lol. (edit: I think what I hate is the machine thing in the top right corner- sucks cause I spent a long time trying to do it, but I'm gonna erase it when I get home and go back to the smaller one in my sketch)
Wow lot's of new people! And so many entries since I last poked my head in. Really loving Browning, vibhas_virwani, RedPen, Mr.Gadbury,... aaargh so many! Wish I didn't have to run to work

Here's what I have so far....
- My Artwork! -
Migsta: Nice love that scrolling detail. I think you need to even up her boobs though her left looks considerably bigger than her right. Also I think if you brought a bit more humanity to the face it would really sell it. Remember someone falls in love with her
Dreoilin: Fantastic line work again, I'd have that on my wall as is. Looking forward to see where you take this
mes: I reckon if you lost that hat stand thing you'ld have a much stronger composition. I don't know if it' sjust the perspective but her head seems a little on the small side
ArtFish: Beautiful pose and line work. I think the left arm is too small compared with the other though
rgeorge: Great pose!
Narko: Creepy! Really nice idea though. I reckon if you had her face looking really beautiful it would juxtapose briliantly against the monstrous form powering her
ssandulak: Sweet pose, looking forward to seeing this progress
Jetpack: Nice start
CandlePhoenix: what a little minx! Watch your proportions though her legs look a bit off and her left hand is bigger than the right
vibhas_virwani: Really nice! You might want to get some ref for her left hand and the sword is wonky, you want a nice strong curve for that
AdrianNagorski: Strong pose. That face seems to change perspective from jaw to the eyes though. It's always worth getting some good reference, drawing beautiful ladies is hard!
Mistermike: Nice narrative. Again get some reference it will really help you to see how light works on different materials. Strong contrast will also help make sense of your image, if you start with a really strong main light source you will have a much stronger feeling of 3 dimensions. Also she's in focus but the enviroment where she's sat is out of focus
Started to clean up and putt in some color. Any tips and comments are more then welcome.
Hi everyone ^^
I finished my work, but tomorrow and after tomorrow I will not have internet, so I must post now the drawing in the final topic.
How could I do?
gonna have to scrap the pose 'cause I went too far in a conflicting direction with the background. I'm going to have her emerging from her molten/destroyed chamber --- 'cause I mean what mad inventor/magician wouldn't destroy his lab in the process? I won't finish before Sunday's deadline. I'll still post in this thread when it's done :u)
PS Zant: Just be sure that you show enough of the character to go to poll. The rule is 3/4 in the header. I say this because I like your design.
Started playing with some colors... background will be changed but i needed some color back there to play around with the magic element glow and the smoke (I should do those last but... I don't like to work in order. whatever. haha)

One last update. Thanks for the advice, I've broadened the canvas so it doesn't feel so cramped. I'll try and push through to the deadline but even if I don't make it it's been real fun and a great exercise. Looking forward to seeing all the finals.
Criticism is always welcomed!
