Your stuff is great man especially at 17. You use some colors i don't see put together very often, maybe being a little color blind can be an advantage sometimes.
Props from another 17 year old
Stephane Perez: Trust me, being colorblind is never an advantage, haha. But thanks. It's cool to see another 17 year old on here... although i am about to be 18 in a month...and a half XD
Here's a sketch, i was planning on finishing it but i'm kind of over it now
and then there are 2 of the 7 studies i did yesterday. I didn't think it was necessary to upload the others because they are just things like closeups on cloth, hands and detached arms with no BGs
^I got a Daily Deviation (on Deviantart) for this one today
BTW the tentacle is f*cked up on this one but i fixed it in the one on my DA
^ The wood grain is terrible/unfinished/out of perspective but i already know how to draw wood grain so i wasn't very concerned with it :/
^ It's not finished but i'm bored with it... i might still work on it though... idk
^ These are pretty bad but this sketchbook is supposed to track my progress and with out little 5 second sketches like these i would hardly be progressing
so i guess they qualify for posting
I should probably stop saying things are unfinished... It's kind of redundant considering this is my "sketchbook"

Windows did an update thing and shut down my computer before I saved a lot of my studies
But I don't really care because it was just anatomy and furniture studies, nothing of value
here's some of the stuff I've been doing ._.
Indoor WIP w/ no reference:
There was a kitchen on the far right but everything was too big so I was in the middle of redoing it (that's why the line is there).
And those silhouettes are just there for scale
Kitchen study that took way too long but I did learn a lot from it:
Stairs study for simple perspective/ indoor painting practice:
Rain forest study:
Short color studies:
Short color studies
Here is my first post that i moved so i could change my sketchbook's icon(there was more writing but i didn't care enough to copy and paste it here) :
Ummmm... I'm not sure how to do this exactly...
I've been a long time fan of this site, but was always kind of intimidated by the awesomeness on here
I've been doing studies all of the time but i haven't had anywhere to put them and this seems like the perfect place.
I am partially colorblind and 17 years old so i need all of the help i can get
All the rest were done before my recent studies and most weren't finished for that reason. Their base was weak and not worth finishing in my opinion.
I tried to leave the brushstrokes because it's my favorite style but everyone else seemed to like my smooth art better ._.

LA-Fairy: I'd really like to do a collab with you but i don't know when i won't b busy. Studies will be consuming my time until i'm out of college. I'm sorry!
Man Made God: Thanks! That really means a lot!
Fetsch: Whoa! You're art is blowing my mind right now O_O And thanks, i will!
alexson: Thanks you very much!
I didn't originally intend on entering the this weeks CHOW contest (#253), i was just doing it for practice so i didn't get super creative or anything
and i just started this last night so i'm super limited on time... sad
I did this after the original picture because the rules said i need front and back thumbnails of the character
So i just scribbled and wrote down a few of my original thoughts on the character:
(sorry for any misspelled words, i wrote this really fast and i'm awful at spelling anyway DX)
Small eyed girls are hot too!
The colors are mega-random
The small head and the B&W pic are studies the other 2 are from imagination:
Clothes, Half are studies and half are from imagination:
Random unfinished Landscapes meant for random cartoony illustrations:
I have many more studies but they are all in pencil and i don't feel like scanning them in
Maybe i'll upload them later

That's fine, hit me up whenever you are up for it.
Love the chow entry, the colors and crispiness are neat. Keep up what you're doing, cuz you are doing it right in my book!
Fantastic start to your sb...lotza variety...characters, studies, interiors, enviros...even cartoons. Really cool for anyone but especially since your still young. And I can't see any evidence of color-blindness. Keep up the gret work!
Wow, this is awesome stuff! I really like the first image.
Hey man, you're doing pretty well for being 18! I would play with edges a bit more (I notice you mentioned you didn't feel like painting over some edges to soften them--I like to sometimes use the smudge tool with a soft edged brush to very quickly soften an edge here or there). You also have a fair number of trees in your art, but they seem to not really be based on much. Perhaps studying a few species of tree and how they grow would be useful
Lastly, I'm not sure if you've seen it or not, but you may be interested in checking out the Teen Challenge section here on conceptart (this is a shameless plug for it since I am one of the leaders haha). The current round is just finishing up, so the a new round will be posted in a day or two. Hope you manage to enter a round here or there!

"If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." -- Bruce Lee
YOU ROCK. I wish I had your totally math painting skills! And there's so much variety here too...I really like the reflections in post #3. I think you should experiment with different noses in your cartoons, they all end in a really sharp point and it seems unnatural to me.
@LAFairy: I totally will and thanks again!
@Placeboast: Thanks! Your studies are great, you're especially good with values
@Jephyr X: Thanks a lot, man. Really means a lot!
@Ven S: Thanks!
@Andrew Sonea: Thank you, i've actually just recently learned about edges, but it's been so recent i haven't been able to show it in my work yet. Same thing with trees. I used to get so caught up in using trees as a compositional tool rather than making it a tree, but now i know more
And i have looked at the teen challenge, and was thinking about entering it a while ago. I might in the future if i have time
@JesseM: Thank! You've got lots of variety too! You've made a lot of progress in a short amount of time.
@Vertical: Thank you! I never really took my cartoons seriously so i never put effort into improving them. But it's funny that just read your comment because i was just working on varying them
Sorry i've been away so long. I really needed a break from the internet, i needed to start painting for myself and not just for other people. I've been working on studies just as much as usual, more even. I generally delete finished studies cause i no longer need them, and i save unfinished stuff so i can finish them later
that's why tall of these studies are unfinished

Wonderful stuff you got here! Amazing hair you did a few posts up. A question about the kids and squid piece, the dragon, is it a savior or something like that? Got confused when it was coming from the dark side of the picture. Nevertheless an awesome piece! Keep it up!
Hey you! Yes, you! Crit me!
My CA.org Sketchbook 1 Last page Bashing much needed and appreciated!
My daily art blog (all the junk and personal crap that my CA sketchbook doesn't have)
Feel free to shoot me a pm anytime~
Well look who's back to make me weep over my inferior painting skills. Haha, welcome back, thanks for the comment! Are those tree paintings studies from Bambi, perchance?
I actually managed to come up with a critique, in your illustrations you tend to paint a big open scene and have one variable in the whole scene, like the story is about that one this. It's a technique that works when the one thing is a hologram figure or a spaceship, but when it's a vaguely skull shaped mound of snow or a palm tree or a single crater of lava there doesn't seem to be a story to be told so the narrative's confusing.
I'm subscribing, your sketchbook is a huge kick in the ego, especially since we're the same age. Can't wait to see more!
Oh wow, I didn't expect so many responses! It really means a lot!!
@Kidult: Thank you!!
@Wasabi89: Thanks, man!
@Rastaray: Thanks, I just always start personal pieces, but when i start one it always reminds me of how much i need to study and then i forget about the piece. haha.
@koh: Thank you, it's supposed to be lava... but i probably should have made it more red orange-ish. When i see red it's less saturated because of the R-G colorblindness, so the way i see yellow is more saturated, which causes me to make things that i know are saturated yellow. I accidentally do that with skin a lot, too. It's definitely something i need to work on but i only just realized that i was doing that a few days ago. :/
@Zikes: ¡Gracias! The dragon's purpose is supposed to be left up to the viewer. It's cool to see how people react to it. It seems like 50% think it's going to eat them and 50% think it's going to save them.
@cloudcan: Thank you! Colors are probably on of my biggest insecurities about painting so that's much appreciated. Haha when i looked at http://attachments.conceptart.org/fo...1&d=1309555869 i had a flash of how long that took me and how easily could do that now. I just painted geometric shapes in an over-complicated lighting situation, haha.
@Vertical:Thanks! naahh man your skills are awesome! And yeah, i love bambi backgrounds, haha.
The snow painting and the lava one weren't actually finished. I always start paintings out with big open landscapes because i hate having to paint over things when i add in characters. On my Deviantart i posted a process of a piece and in the first few steps you an see how i start that way and then build a story after i add the character. But with that said i should definitely learn to tell stories better without having to add characters.
And thanks, i didn't even know that people could subscribe to threads, i still have so much to learn about this place/ forums in general!*newb*
I forgot to post this. It's old and there are A LOT of things i would do differently now, but it was still fun:
I took Andrew Sonea's Advice and studied trees some more:
Quick Human body studies:
Thanks for stopping by!
Really like these studies! keep it up!
Very cool stuff man. A really strong start, hopefully you can keep this up. Do you have any pencils you can post? If you really find the colourblindness a weakness, maybe work at really improving your drawing skill and that will transfer very nicely to digital, you seem to have a good grip on digital painting so far.
Kidult: Thanks, man
Tehmeh: Hey! yea i do a lot of pencil drawing but i never post them cause it would take too long to scan and i'm super lazy with that kind of stuff . But down at the bottom of this post is a pic of a pile of papers with some of my line stuff. And thanks! Also, i'm glad you made that comment because it made me go deep into the world of gesture drawing an now i feel a lot more comfortable drawing figures... and everything else. Idk why but gesture helps with everything *_*
Oh wow it's been a month
Sorry, it just takes so long to post which means time away from art
And i had 3 essays and a final, which took a lot of time ;____;
Anyway here are some of my studies...
Lot's of them were timed so i put the amount of time i took above the pieces. Some other ones were timed too but i forgot how long they took :/
Doing timed studies actually helps a lot imo.
aaaannd some of my sketches... i wanted to spread them out so you could actually see the papers but my room is tiny so i couldn't spread them out anywhere
