I've been working on an illustration of a undead/skeleton with some armour. So far I've come up with 3 thumbs that I like.
Top left: undead being hit by arrows
bottom left: corpse being reanimated.
right: undead on horse.
Going to flesh each one out some more. Critique is very welcome
Since these are thumbs I'm not gonna crit the anatomy, but I do note that all of these thumbs cut off the undead guy's legs and all of them are kinda lacking of some good "undead posture". If the guy is bit more refined undead and not totally falling apart, it's understandable, but I think bit more undead-ness and overall exaggeration in his poses might work (like in the one where he's hit with arrows).
Also, all but one of the thumbs are from equal or upper level of him, which makes him look kinda small and sad. It works if he's supposed to be more sympathetic (or a main character instead of just being some random dead guy) but the images lack drama and also are kinda distant (as in we're looking from afar, instead of being "with him").
My favorite idea is the undead resurrection, but I think it's the least interesting thumbnail. I would personally like to see that fleshed out more (different angles, different poses and ideas, etc.), but I understand if you're not interested- this is just an opinion.
I think you got the best frame to picture what you want to show... at this point, no comments to do about the character... about the composition, I think you could add some other undead revering the main character as well others kept dead...
Yeah I gotta say that's looking really sexy Braintree, nice painting.
I'm only here to really offer support and agree with THEMike about the hand raised thing. Keep going, this one's really nice.
hello man, for this horse rider, you could add him a crown as well some light red spots in the eyes, as if he was looking directly to the observer...
good job and keep going with it
Hey man! Good to see you chuggin' away.
So with the horse guy (I like the resurrection, pretty nice)- are you referencing the horse? He looks a little small and I don't like his front structure, something feels off.
so... what about a banner coming from that pole to bring the eye back down and add some color? I'd think like a blue would be appropriate here, but most of it's really grey and I think a color could help it pop.
I also think you could vignette the whole thing a little more by just adding some darker values (multiply or whatever) around the corners to try and push the eye up to him?
Keep going man, you're doing some awesome stuff. Maybe post some more progress shots for us?
