Oh man. There's just ridiculous amount of improvement just in the these couple of last pages alone. The improvement can especially be seen in the understanding of values. Also really sweet pencils. Thanks for popping by my sb.
Lot of lovely sketches
Thanks for stopping by my sb, your comment made my day.
Loads of nice studies in here. Great sense of light in your digitals and excellent line quality in your pencils.
Keep working on the stuff from imagination and try doing applied studies for them. Theres a big difference right now but if you can get some of that excellent lighting you've done before onto the figure above that would rock, right now theres no real sense of form or volume.
Keep it up, cheers!
Mikko Voipio hey thanks for the kind words man, love your sb!
Mariusz Kornatka thanks!
gerezon hey thanks for the honest critique man, i kept asking my girlfriend if she thought the values were ok, but shes too nice to tell me straight up that they arent working...i needed to hear that! I have been working on it since reading what you said and I am still not sure if I am improving them. but thats what studies are for!
first two are the 10-20 minute initial sketches i had for this doodle-dootle...and the third is the progress on it...maybe 3 hours in? I think my initial sketches are actually working better...fuck. the last is an in progress drawing/painting that i am doing traditionally and digitally.
I admire your pencil skills.
One day I hope to have command over a pencil like that!
Jarrad hey thanks a lot man! it just takes practice! lots of repetitive motion...
xbert thank you xbert! you are a true inspiration. not just for your skills as an artist, but as a person too. thanks for stoppign by my book!
here are some more things and stuff.
a thing from today.
It is such a thrill for me to have some 'star votes' on my sketchbook. On my old books (which will remain unnamed for now) I wished and wished and wished that somebody would 'star me'. The problem with that is the same problem as hoping you get comments. When I was in that mindset, I wasn't even thinking about art! It's a strange pattern to fall into.
I know the stars do not mean much, but they really are a motivating factor for me. Little things like that make me so incredibly motivated. They make me realize that I am getting better, and that's what this is all about.
Seage thanks man! love your book
ok here are some things...the first two are photos i did of a drawing that i had in show at my school, and forgot to scan in before i hung it. so it looks like POOP. i will scan it in next week when the show is over and the drawings come down...then some sketches, and a study that i am so so close to finishing. i want to call it done and move on, but i also want to keep learning from it.
Eraiasu thanks dude! Life digital painting is very difficult for me when I introduced color...I am really really slow, and my figures look really corpsy. I think my color-blindness has a lot to do with that, but maybe its just my color laziness.
I really cant wait for summer. I am just going to get on a good schedule and study all the time, no more of this school work...blah. But my biggest problem right now is a huge one, its finishing things. I cant seem to really take something to finish...I remember in the interview with Dave Rapoza and Brad Rigney, Brad says something along the lines of "you really face yourself doing this." and right now I am staring myself right down the throat. Its really painful to see my flaws and to attempt to conquer them, but if I don't I'll die sad.
anyway thanks for commenting again Eraiasu!
Figure studies and the black and white study above look great. This last pencil looks amazing though! I need to take your advice myself and really take the time to finish things. It seems like the more subtlety you can get into something the more believable it looks. Maybe that's why you hear people say quality first and speed later? Awesome progress in here!
thanks for the comment man!
Its been a while since my last post...had some sad news about a diagnosis in my immediate family, but things seem to be looking up, so I have been in a much better mood. here is some stuff I have been working on....
The thumbnails with the photos next to them are "remix's". I saw some old videos of Thomas Scholes doing some quick sketches on youtube, and he "remix's" photos so I tried to give it a shot. Its really reallly reallllllllly fun to come up with ideas that way...even though I still think it is cheating a little. The other thumbs are just from my head with no ref's and then there aer some studies, and progress on my big study thing.

Wow! Beautiful value work on those graphite drawings! You really shine with a pencil. If you haven't already, try to do some color studies with a dry medium like pastel. Color is definitely your next big challenge. Keep pushing it!
Nice grey scale stuff. I like where your work is going. Keep churning it out mate!
