Very long time no post here on CA, we were swamped of work at steambot for these last years. The rythm continues to be high, working on cool stuff like Brink. We did a couple of marketing images for AKQA/Bethesda, starting end of 2009 and over begining of 2010.
We did the boxart and a gigantic mural of over 40 K pixels wide. Some of you probably saw the huge poster showcasing the 2 facing factions, Resistance VS Security.
This piece was a real challenge, really demanding and ambitious. It was probably one of the biggest challenge I had in my carrier. All characters was separated on layers to be able to use them individually. A lot of sweat, but we are proud of the final result.
Characters designs are from the developer, we repainted them all without any use of 3D mesh or photos, except for the guns.
Special thanks to Ed Davis and Michael Powell, my main contacts at AKQA, Olivier Leonardi, Art Director of the game, Bethesda of course, and all my SB buddies for their help and support.
The game just came out yesterday, so have fun!

Happy to see those babies on better resolution. Great job on small details, composition, materials, volume, lighting,... etc. By itself the characters are so provocative and conducive to make something really gorgeous with them and yes, you did a great job on making them look so natural and alive.
40K pixels...holy shit! Can Photoshop even handle an image that size? This must have taken you a good chunk of time. Awesome work - it's stunning!!
La classe, rien a dire de plus. trou cul ca. Nice works man.
Headhunter, Crazy Horse, DARYL, olive2d, RV, Svetlin: Thx guys! I did these images almost 2 years ago, glad to see you like them, i'm over of these! looool
Mandryk: It,s pain in the ass for PS to handle this, so I had worked all the characters separately. The client wanted to separate higlights from textures and shadows. And for the mural, I did flatten all of these groups/layers and drop them in my scene. So it was a bit like a template where I drag and drop final pieces, holding only 20 layers in the end. But even there I was praying doing a simple CTRL+S O_O'
I did a quick estimate IF i had to keep separated layers, should be over 150 :X
Benoit: We je sais ca me change pas mal de mes images persos, mais j'ai appri beaucoup avec ce projet: la patience, l'exigeance, une nouvelle methodologie de travail et un oeil plus avisé.
Will post an HD version of the mural soon
Amazing work, since the first appearance I've found the character design of the game one of the most originals ever seen in a game like that, you and the others of the graphic crew really made it look dynamic and graphic, and so personal!
Hope to see more works soon, and be able to play the game one day or the other.
Woah, I have a site too! (Crappy multilanguage option implemented, and a tad old in the drawing field)
Wowzers... some absolutely stunning work. Love the CU's so we can see you brush work... most impressive of anything is that you've kept the energy throughout each character and the final piece after all the work you've put in. A lot of time images like this can become overworked but this still looks fresh, energetic and dynamic.
Wacomitis - fear of an empty bank account.
My laptop can barely handle the compressed awesomeness of your work here.
I love the vibrancy of everything on display here - you guys really gave Brink a unique and fun look.
this is inspirational.
These are absolutely amazing. Really great work! I feel like a dick saying this cous it looks so great. I just think with all the guns that are firing a few bullet streaks in the back ground and a bullet or two in the foreground with a motion blur or something would look great. Hell who am I to say tho your the one working for bethesda!
Rock on. This is great stuff.

here we can speak of a masterpiece. All these steps.. how many time did you invest in a character if you like this question?
(i hope it sounds not too reductive to think in terms of time)
Excellent work. Really dynamic and detailed just the way I love it!

Kerion: Character designs are from LD Austin, an amazing artist (http://www.ldaustinart.com/), I was excited too watching the designs, It's one of the reasons I accepted this contract.
Verithin: Thx, it was a challenge to see how far I could push the detail and keep it rough at the same time.So I've decided to not polish everything the same, and focus more on the loot (guns, straps, bags, etc). What make the whole thing consistant is the accuracy of the lighting, treated exactly the same, precisely, even on the more rough parts.
Droid, NeecHMonkeY, bearfoot, sony, sabin boykinov, Sebastien, Ravenseye, Ccs, Jason, Zimfin: THX!!!
Bomba: Yes it was painful sometimes Look at the LOST character (hal-naked tatooed punk), you'll see that his pose totally changed in the mural.
Hopefully these kind of changes was minors.
merl1n: A good trick is to work with smart oject layers. It,s a kind of low def layer, a placeholder in your final composition. So you can work on this file separately, it will automatically update in your big image.
Joyvenn: Well, hard to say, cause some of them had to change, others not, etc. For example, the Lost was done in 24 working hours straight, no retakes.
The other ones, probably a week, sometimes two.
Woah! Absolute stunning! GGGrreeeat details, composition and rendering...I love it!
I need this poster on the wall of my studio just in front of my desk!!!!!!
I got the SteambotStudio Book and it's simply amazing...great job guys!!!!
