Hey everyone. I've been lurking around for a while, and thought I'd start my own thread.
I no longer live in a place with a drawing crowd, so I don't have access to advice and asskickings or even art discussion. Hopefully, I can get some that here. I feel like I'm drawing in a void.

I was recently given a fountain pen that I'm trying to get more comfortable with. My regular pen holding habits aren't working so well with it.
AustenFM:Thanks for the response. Sometimes I lightly pencil in overall shapes. To make sure I get the right number of octopi legs and such. I'm trying to draw direct more atm. Trying to commit to lines and make them look more confident.
I really like the fine lines and details of the Kraken in the 2nd post, as well as the feathers of the Ravens in the 3rd. You have quite good control over pens.
Speaking of which, I wouldn't bother trying to draw with a fountain pen - they're suited for completely different things. In my experience, the more expensive the pen, the more utterly useless it is for drawing. I've spent hundreds of dollars on trying to find the "right" pen that I could use reliably. I've bought fountain pens, art pens, etc. And in the end, the most reliable pen I found are the cheap, "Hi-Tec C" pens. they cost around $10 HKD, compared to some art pen which I bought for 6 times that amount, plus 2 extra ink cartridges. With the art pen, I literally spent 80%+ of my time with it trying to get the damn ink to run, and when it did, the pen rarely performed according to the price I paid for it.
The Hi-Tec C pens on the other hand? Works like a charm. Never had problems with the ink flow, and they perform really well, despite its cheap cost.
Anyways, looking forward for more work from you.

Believe my lies, for I tell the truth about them. Or would you rather me lie about telling the truth?

Something I did last. Color pencil. Where I erased out a too-dark bit under the lip ended up looking like too-bright reflected light after I adjusted the scan.
The carousel horse is a bit old, but I still like how it turned out.
Rabbi Satan: The octopus and the ravens are in Hi Tec. I like those pens a lot, but I can't put watercolor over them because the ink runs. The brown seems to run way more than the black or blue, and I like the wash effect it can make, but I did once use them on a location draw where it started to rain . . . D:
Excellent work so far! Keep posting, dig the darker work.
I really enjoy your thumbnail sketches. I think it takes a great deal to express so much with very little line and space.
Whoa, those are some amazing lines *head explodes in awe*
Check your favourite Imaginary Friend's Sketchbook here (oh and don't forget to say hi)!
Keep them coming.. very nice looking stuff
tnx for the visit.. your lines are beautiful. looks simple but its hard to do..
and your sketch book is 5 stars
I really like your sketchbook, in particular your animal sketches. Animal sketches usually remind me of the discovery channel, but your animals seem darker and more sinister for some reason. I like it, I like it a lot. And that ship is awesome too.
I like the use of hatching (Especially like the trees). Don't see good use of hatching much.
Another olive tree. Or what I think is an olive tree. This time with a dip pen. I'll try to do something different soon.
n1frit: Nothing new that I would call even "mostly digital". The cat isn't really digital, btw. Only the blue bg in post1 is. The cat and flat blacks are gouache paint.
I haven't done anything digital in a while, so I tried this. Let me know what you think.
I wish I knew how to make crisp curves. I just free handed the cloud line. I tried the (photoshop) pen tool, but I just ended up with curve handles all over the place.
And thanks for the stars, guys. Awww.
