Heya UK people :] I just arrived to London a couple of days ago and I'm curious to know if there are any meet-ups still existing around this area ? hehe
I'm been looking through this thread quickly and couldn't find anything about any regular meetups.. so if anyone's up for some drawing
it would be great to know
I'm up for a meet next week. Hopefully I don't get called in to work, I'm helping out a friend on a landscape gardening job a few days a week and am at the mercy of his schedule!

I try to get to the National Gallery (or other museums/galleries - the 19thC gallery of portrait paintings and busts at the NPG is also a good resource, as are the cast court and sculpture galleries at the V&A) to sketch, most friday afternoons/evenings. I believe it is useful to draw from paintings and sculptures, both as a more active exercise in looking, and also as a way of practicing fundamentals, particularly improving accuracy in placement and proportion, and rendering form in value. Having a subject that doesn't move and allows you to take your time may be more valuable than (or an excellent addition to) the common short-pose lifeclasses, particularly if you currently have problems in achieving reasonably accurate proportions/form rapidly in the life-class environment.
Yesterday, I met up with JRP (who posted about this a page or two back - and didn't seem to get much response here ).
I'd invite Shed (who also posted about wanting to meet up) and anyone else who would like to do so, to meet up with JRP and myself at the National Gallery next Friday, any time from 1.45pm onwards for the afternoon and evening, the idea being that we sketch and discuss. We're both interested in the more "classical"/traditional end of techniques and training, so could be of help if you are looking for input on these sorts of approaches. All levels welcome.
Post here or PM me if you are interested, it would be good if we could make this a regular thing.
(I'd also add that organisation of meetings in this thread seems to be a bit (i) chaotic; and (ii) telegraphic - by which I mean that its impossible to tell where/when/whether most of the proposed meetings here are actually occurring - hence I thought its easiest to cut through that and say "National Galley, fridays, 1.45pm and onwards til gallery/pub closing time" so that its clear, unequivocal, and unambiguous. ALL welcome. PM me for contact details).

I think I need to move to London, cause I'd love to come to a sketch meets but being a poor student can't afford to take the train from Cambridge every other week. Any body from Cambridge on here??

Yo Crimson, if you're wanting to do more observational drawing I know 'the shop' down jesus lane used to do life drawing on friday afternoons for architecture students and anyone from the public, check it out, think they may have started again.

Hello UK Folk, you are invited to my art studios private view Friday 19th June, 6.30pm - until very late! As well as art, there will be music and drink too, so if you can make it, please pop down and show your support!
This exhibition is a showcase of the individual artists who work and live in the S.E London area.
From painting to photography, print work and installations, each artist brings something
new and unique to the proverbial 'table'.
As well as viewing some eclectic art, we will be holding an auction with work donated by the artists.
All money made will be going to the upkeep of our studios and our extortionate utility bills!

btw.. the national gallery is quite.. big ? anyone has a good meeting place hehe ?
I think I sent everyone expressing an interest a PM with my mobile number?the national gallery is quite.. big ? anyone has a good meeting place hehe ?
I'm intending to be there from about 1.30PM, and initially I'll be in rooms 23/24, where the Rembrandts are. (I'm the short middle-aged guy who looks all too much like Homer Simpson - though not quite so yellow - I'll have a sketchpad and a small pair of binoculars).
Since Molly's having an open studio, people might want to go on to that in the evening? I'm not sure if I'll stay on at the NG in the evening, or go on, I'll probably "play it by ear" depending on how many others I hear from or turn up, and what any others want to do? I'm keen that we try to make the NG thing a regular event for anyone who wants to drop in and meet up with others.
OK - I guess I should say I'm not expecting that others all turn up at 1.30 too - my thought was whatever time suited, and sketch for blocks of perhaps something like one-two hours per subject, and have periods where we get together and discuss? But very open to suggestions as to what others want to do, how to make best use of the time/opportunity?
