A very late (but very enthusiastic) congrats to Naomi and Jon as well
.__. I miss you guys, dammit.
want to try to make the Bristol Comic Con, but a load of crazy shit going on atm, just got back from Paris today and might be in London at that weekend, will let know anyway
Hey Naomi, congrats on the ole driving test gubbins.
Hi Tomato, welcome to our little soirre.
Calling all northern artists. Soon there's gonna be another opening for a junior concept bod at my place in Manchester. I'm tired of interviewing jokers, so if you think your environments are up to it, either send me a private message here with a link, or send a zip file of samples to my email email@example.com.
PS: CHELSEA OUT OF EUROPE!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!! bring on the Manchester Utd - Liverpool final!
Chelsea's out?? WOOHAAA!! Oh, the Arse went out ages ago. Oh well, just as well I wasn't paying attention.
Jon, straight into Concept? Jesus mate, that's awesome! And Spud, if only times had been like that a while back, eh? I better get a bit better at wrapping my head around environments one day too I guess. Congrats again.
Congrats to all the people who got onto they're various college courses - you can look forward to 3 years of getting pissed on borrowed money and having lots of sex, in between which you will also navigate the narrow and dangerous route between pleasing the tutors and maintaining your own vision - not a simple course so i hear, as most college teachers want to mould you into what they want you to be, not to help you become a better version of yourself. good luck one and all - and remember its all about staying power. 90% of the people you meet on the first day will be bank managers in 5 years - if theyre lucky - dont joint theyre ranks, keep going!!
there you go, another cynical rant courtesy of the bitter and twisted brain meats of TheBrave!
Pete, i'm stoked that your having such a cool time with the new job, and im pleased your getting the opportunity to manage and direct things more now, you so deserve it man, your vision and character will allow you to fly!!!!
DC - from what i saw on that Artlier (thing) post, your enviros are looking pretty sweet already old son.
have a loverly thursday.
Work harder!! - Millions on welfare are relying on you.
TheBrave is spot on about what british art courses are, which is worrying.
So i've been seeing this guy about uni for ages who reminds me of olsen from CA and from the prague workshop, i went up to speak to him today and i was right, huzzah! one more for the brizzle crew, he's doing his masters in animation.
...it dont take much to be a banker...
[void] - sorry i never replied! Am in denmark at the mo so a little out of the loop. Answer, yes, many tutorials... del.icio.us/sketchling contains much iv found over the years.
AND, have a look at my custom brushes tutorial from 2dartist.com
Ah... just had a look at that link void... actually Mullins uses old school alpha channels. But to make some sence out of it, lemme give ya some back story on whats going on. Any image thats RGB is just three channels. The amount of red, green and blue light in each pixel is determined by the brightness of the black and white image in that channel.
Alpha channels are exactly the same only they are not tied to a colour, but can be used to denote transparency.
Layer masks are alpha channels tied to a specific layer(watch the channels tab when a layer mask is selected...an alpha channel appears so long as it remains selected)
A selection is essentially an alpha channel stored in memory and not saved as an alpha channel proper. if you select an area, the marching ants show you what is selected. press 'q' to go into quick mask mode and you can paint that selection as pixels...kind of a quick-alpha channel. press q again to go bqack to normal mode and then in the channels pellette, press on the little new alpha from selection tab. The alpha it produces is exactly the same as what you saw in the quick mask mode... as its all different ways of displaying the same idea.
AND just to complicate things, a layer with say just a brushstroke and then lots of transparent area around it will have a kind of alpha built in. Ctrl click on the layer in layers (the image or word part of the layer I think...cant remember which) and you will have that layers transparency as a selection which can then become an alpha channel...
SO...now that iv got everyone snoozing away, ill get to the point. If you want to create a silouette of a soldier like that one in the mullins tutorial, you can
1) Paint it in any colour on a new transparent layer and then create a selection and save it as an alpha.
2) Paint it in quick mask mode, exit to make it into a selection then make it into an alpha.
3) make a new alpha and paint it white on black. prob the easiest option and I think mullins own tendency.
4)get selection tool and draw an outline. shift-selecting and alt-selecting to dd or remove from the selection. good luck! (dont forget to save this as an alpha before you lose it. Ctrl-d selects last selection in case you lose it.)
Ctrl-clicking on an alpha channel makes a selection you can use...ctrl-shift-i inverts a selection so you can paint on the BG or the FG at will.
Hope that didnt confuse the shit out of you!
P.S. have a look at the painters of skagen...jeez these guys were good!!!went to the museum today.
All of which do pretty much the same thing.
hmm very random question, but i was wondering- do any of you guys know the name of the japanese game show where they like, dress up as an object or portray a situation, like there was about 5 women that were a giant teddy, but turnded the other way and they were a cake, and there were a group of guys that portrayed a prison escape. hmm i cant remember what it is, anyone know?
and yes, like i said, very random question haha
I understand what you're saying as I've had the opportunity to see you shwo it once, but I'll be damned if its really hard to paint with, as the colours can really come out strange just painting in alpha channels
"Hi James John. Are you stalking me by the way?"
lefran... It hink you are talking about takeshi's castle? Crazy Japanese gameshow witth silly stuff like that.
Koshime: You are pretty much only painting silouettes as alpha's, so that you can select them at any time and work, paint, apply gradients etc... or select the background at any time all the whilst working on only one layer. speeds things up.
nope, its something different, its not like a running about game show its like, where they make themselves into an object, hard to explain, but the person who has the best scenario or lookalike type thing wins, i think naomi might know ill ask her
It only lasted a few seconds, witch is good as we have far too many old buildings that are now flats. So it could have been a huge thing but thankfully it wasnt
In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated
that if we drink 1 litre of water each day, at the end of the year we would
have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. coli) bacteria found
in feces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop.
However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine (or rum, whiskey or
other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification process of
boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.
Remember: Water = Poop, Wine = Health
Therefore, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to drink water
and be full of shit.
what a piece of shit
Tis surely a thinly veiled ploy to get absolutely bladdered, (I'm sure the trial has not been double blinded and randomly controlled and has poor levels of evidence) and then when the bloomin liver packs up, they're cryin out for a liver transplant and end up on the intensive care units screemin for bloody murder for a bed countrywide, and then when they're next to close to dying and the liver is absolutely pate....
Alll I can say,
the ICUs in UK will write : not for resus or transplant. Not suitable for subsequent treatment or escalation (i.e let them get stuffed, they asked for it)
hey folks, ive just discovered this thread, really nice to see there are lots of UK artists in touch!
Jeeez Koshime! kill the joke why dont you!
Sorry Molly. I have strong knee jerk reactions to insobriety related articles, and the last thing I would wish is for the advocacy to convert more folk to liver pate overdose, when a modicum or occasional approach to enjoying drink is perhaps the better message to enjoy the UK national culture and festivity.
Here's to your good health and others!
Hurrah Chelsea !
The Cutty Sark burnt this morning, its pretty sad. I hope they find who did it. Bastads
we should do a ressurect the cutty sark image tribute or pictures of her glory years! the bastards!"
tea clipper go poof. Apparently though, 60 % of it was replica, as the bits were falling apart, so much of it is still in a warehouse somewhere and they can re-create it. bugger though. Very sad. Bastardos.
P.S. anyone seen heroes? Anyone else think whoever i painting the bloomin paintings is a compositional genius? lovin it, me.
Save the cheerleader, save the world.
Glad you're into heroes now Kim. My fav charac has to be Hiro
