Hi Dutchies, how was it yesterday? Did you have fun?
I thought about going, but got stuck in train traffic for two hours and then I guess I had it for the day..
I guess you must have had some trouble with the travelling too? Utrecht CS was super crowded with all the stranded people while I was there
Anyways for those of you who had more than 30 minutes of delay: you can get money back from the NS with a form called "Geld terug bij vertraging", I do that all the time, it really saves money
Anyway, I'm happy that the Dutch meetings are getting more frequent ^^ Would like to come a next time.
I'm so terrible. I felt too sick because of all the beer and shots I had at a univ. party the night before, so I had to skip the meeting.
Hoi! after the life drawing session at ateliers westerdok yesterday, a few of us gathered to draw at a cafe and we decided to organize a sketchgroup meetup in Amsterdam. I haven't followed this thread thoroughly, so I'm kinda just jumping in here and planning this- to have a meetup on Sunday afternoon, March 22nd, 2009. Exact time and place will be specified later, but it will be at a cafe or coffeeshop on Haarlemerstraat/ Haarlemerdijk. Perhaps we can even coffeeshop-hop down the street until we get too comfortable. Reply to this thread if you are interested in joining us, bedankt!
Nice man. Sunday it is, so I'll see you then
ok, the location for this Sunday, March 22nd will be the Green House United coffeeshop. Meeting time is from 3pm until whenever. At least 3-6pm.
The address for Greenhouse is:
1013 ET Amsterdam
It's a short walk from Centraal Station. I am thinking we'll get a large table in the back upstairs, so look there. It's a really nice coffeeshop with an aquarium in the floor. Food and drinks are good and relatively nice prices too, so I think it'll be a good place to start sketching- hope to see some new faces there! Please reply to this thread if you think you'll attend.
Does anyone knows if there's a book about how to draw concept art with or without photoshop in Holland?
Hey guys, its kinda stupid as I was there in the cafe when we planned this meeting, but I cant make it because I found out yesterday that my sister is celebrating her birthday today! so i cant really skip on that with family coming from the other side of the country.
I hope you understand, and I hope the meeting is a succes. It would be cool if we could do this more often.
Hey, I feel kind of ill and won't be making it to the lifedrawing today. So I was thinking about asking if there is gonna be a meeting this weekend as well, but you beat me to it Anyways both my sister and me had a great time last time, and I guess I'll see you on sunday
sounds awesome, have to check my agenda with my gf. Question, any chance of doing this sometime at a saturday? I have to travel all the way from eindhoven which means i wouldn't be able to stay long since i'm coming by train and have to work on mondays.
BTW, what time did the meeting end last week???
Maybe would could do something in the future on a Saturday. Sundays seem to work better for me and other people though. I do want to organize a trip to Artis Zoo once the weather gets warmer, for example. The sketching lasted until 6pm last sunday. Probably it will last longer this sunday when we get more people to attend! How far away is Amsterdam from Eindhoven by train? I guess you would have to make a day trip of it to justify the time it takes for travel, otherwise you would be better off just staying there and sketching (don't want to discourage you from coming just want you to make the most of your time). Hopefully see you there.

I've been following this topic for a while and noticed the 'Artis Zoo' sketchmeet idea.
My school is 5 min. away from Artis Zoo and we have a schooldiscount pass for students. Max. is a group of 25 people.
If I borrow that pass, I can get everyone inside for €2,50 instead of €18,50
But I think I can't borrow it for the weekends... I'll ask it tomorrow to be sure.
@ Marlisa: That would be great indeed!!!
Is this discount pass also for non-students if you can borrow it? Or do you have to prove that you are a student?
I just wanna tell you all that there's a lecture at the HKU next wednesday from a New York Illustrator. Her lectures are supposed to be quite good.
This lecture is next wednesday (1st of April, no joke), 17.00 u. in room 203 at the BKV faculty from the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht.
(Go to Utrecht central station, from there you pick bus 12 or 13 (not "12s"), then you get off the bus at "Rubenslaan", from where there's always a bunch of students walking to the school, so you can follow them.
The adress is: Ina Boudier-Bakkerlaan 50, Utrecht
Additional directions (from the school website) can be found here (Dutch) and here (English)
I don't know if you want to go, but I just figured I'd post it here for anyone who might be interested. Entrance is free, and the room opens at 16.30, lecture begins at 17.00 u. Oh and the language will be English.
Not sure if anyone's interested, but I figured I'd better post it and no-one turns out to be interested, than not posting and finding out that someone would have liked to go.
Marlisa- Thanks for the info about the pass.... if we could use that on the weekends it would be great! In fact I want to plan a trip to draw at the Artis Zoo for this Sunday's sketchgroup- weather permitting.
I propose we should all meet at the entrance to it at 1:00pm. It closes at 5pm so that is plenty of time to draw the animals. If the weather sucks we can just go from the zoo entrance and find a near-by cafe to draw.
I have never been to the Artis Zoo before and just assume that it has one main entrance where we can meet- is this true? Is there a more distinct place where we can all meet at? Otherwise, we should all meet in front of the ticket booth at the main entrance at 1pm.
Let me know if you can make it! Keep checking this thread throughout the week just in case anything changes.
Info from Artis Zoo's website:
rtis is open every day of the year, from 09.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.; during the period of 'summer time' Artis closes at 6.00 p.m. On Saterdays in June, July and August, Artis closes at sunset. The entrance fee in 2009 for adults is Ä 18,50, for senior (65+) Ä 17,00 and for children from 3 to 9 years Ä 15,00. Groups exceeding 20 people get a discount of Ä 1,50 per person. An entry ticket for Artis also provides admission to the Planetarium, the Geological Museum, the Aquarium and the Zoological Museum. Dogs are not allowed in the zoo.
New: Guided tours in English are given every Sunday morning, 11.00 uur, Monkey Rock ('Apenrots'.)
NoŽ- Thanks for the info on the lecture! (although I would like to attend I cannot make it unfortunately due to work)
last year me and Hyver organized a sketchmeeting for a few days at my house. We had a bit of a bug problem (processie rupsen) and were all covered with bumps but other than that it was a success if i may say so myself.
I'm thinking of organizing something this year as well. I found a nice location (am totally not gonna do it at home anymore ) and am wondering if there are any interested ppl....let me know when would be the best time for this.
I'll try to make it on sunday. Might be fun
@ Artis: one student of my school can borrow the discount pass. At school they think it's only for me, but at Artis they don't care who joins me.
You just have to show the pass, pay the ticket, and then give the pass to the next one of the group .
No student identification needed.
Haven't asked yet if I can borrow the pass in weekends too.
The entrance area isn't large, so I guess that's a perfect meetingpoint.
I want to go too on sunday... don't know if I can make it.
Ill be there sunday too. The main entrance is a good place to meet. (Although the new people do not know what we look like ofcourse hmm)
But yeah, its gonna be fun, so if you have doubts about going, put those aside and just come!
Ive got a zoo membership so I can take two people inside for free. We can always split the costs or something for the ones that have to pay the full price.
cant go to life drawing tonight by the way... got this work related thing that all employees HAVE to go too. aaah bastards. ive missed too much life drawing, from now on ill be sure to go every week.
but ill see you guys sunday then.
ahh, I already have a lot planned for this weekend, but some other time another zoo sketchmeet I would definitely come.. Especially with this discount pass!
I've decided it would probably be better to start the zoo trip at 11am instead of 1pm on sunday. i know this might seem too early but that is kind of the point- to fight your laziness and make the most of the day! it will be a lot of fun and i know it will take me a few hours to get used to sketching animals again, so that hopefully by the end of the day i might have some decent ones. this way it will also be more worthwhile if we have to pay the full price and we won't be pressed for time.... so hope to see some new faces there on sunday! if you arrive there later just look for some other people with sketchbooks drawing the animals. I'll try to dig up some reference i know about if people want some kind of guidance or inspiration, as well as share any knowledge i might have about animal anatomy, sketching from life, ect.
