Finishing off some leg anatomy studies from Vilppu as well as some 10 minute figure drawings and enviros thumbs for DAMJANs thread, As well copying a bunch of heads from Hogarth God I hate my line work, I just can't seem to grasp it completely, and I fall into chicken scratching or they just look sooo off.
Some stuff. Sigh feeling so unproductive >.>
I think your linework with pencils is much better than with the digital pen. But I have always the feeling, Photoshop is not made for sketching. Using the standardbrushes there's often not the right feeling. You are drawing some lines over and over instead of making one confident line like you would do with a pencil or ballpoint. Are sure you can learn better with using the digital ways to draw?
I would say, make some drawings with pencils and make even some paintings with the digital brushes, like the protrait in the latest post. Work with different medias, make it easy to choose the medium to work on the difficult topics.
Some words about the portrait: keep an eye on the mouth and chin. They seem to be off in position and perspective. Did you flip the canvas sometimes or used some guidelines? Maybe that can help. But the eyes are fitting very well in the perspective =)
1 photo-study and various poses and Hogarth heads.
And so here we are! 1 more day and 1 reeeeaaaally crappy study. Admittedly I bit a bit more than I should have, her head being tilted slightly back in the picture, her shoulders thrusting out, sleek wet hair. Elements i'm not even close to getting right, but I had fun at least. tried to make it "cleaner" than previous
In addition some enviro thumbs

hey there little-maiden! had a look through some of the pages of your sketchbook and i must say you are improving pretty fast, especially in such a short time since you've started posting!
hooray, stuff to upload! ill scan some of the paperwork later >.>
Heres to a really REALLY crappy photostudy- and other shit. V.V
something i did from imagination only, was fun took about 2-3hours total.
Try to do photostudies without visible sketchlines in the end, than it's going to be fun I'm sure you are good enough to do that, just care a bit more about clean edges. You can do it!
And again about digital sketches: did you ever try to imitate pencils with the photoshopbrush? I'm not sure, but maybe the sketches will look better and a bit more natural if you use a structured brush. At least, playing around with brushsettings is never bad to find the ideal one for you
btw, good to see you working on perspective stuff! Keep it on!
A partly finished photostudy, tried to do it without my crappy habit of leaving lines. I think its better than previous attempts but its still got that crappy blur to it I guess

Just stumbled upon your sb!
Nice to see someone doing the same studies and figures over an over again, feels like one person more to join the boat! I must say I absolutely love it that you tackle enviro thumbs and digital painting! Can you link "Damjans thread" or say where you get some information on environments? I find it SO hard to get any reading on it, as supposed to anatomy lol!
Keep it up, and try not to hate yourself too much for what you think you fail on, though it is indeed easier said than done. Cheers!
@LordLouis, thanks for stopping by my SB yeah its hard to not to be so hard on myself, especially since self-loathing is what drives me to do better .
As for DAMJANs thread its in the community mentoring section of CA, under "Enviromentoring". Personally I find enviro's relatively basic in principle which is to basically keep foreground/midground/background clear. More than that though, i think enviro's are great for practicing different composition and ideas. There's not much on the subject other than study a few books to draw specific things like plants and rocks, but its where you can start.
Update: Rocks and a first concept for the CHOW

none of these are great, but they ate up quite a bit of my time today (the whole day). Very frustrating to spend so much time and still be miles off.
WIPs for the CHOW, and EOW and crap
Hey Daniel, the Alice WIPs are looking good! Try doing some portrait studies if you have trouble with that! It's all a matter of learning where to place what.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=213907 My sketchbook!
Self portrait Firdays is gonna be my new "thing" since I see many doing it and I was inspired by the sheer number of self-portraits seen on Andrew "Android" Jones' page. Better early than late to start doing these, it'll most likely help my overall understanding of faces anyhow
This for now, more scans later.
rocks. I've been working mostly in pencil/paper recently, and i'm far too lazy to scan
So heres what I have...digitally
Bridgeman, some Loomis (fun with a pencil) and other things. Sketchdump of my poor poor studies.
God I hate doing rocks- I mean they are fun but dear lord I can't seem to get them right!
...I do feel like my improvement is slow and painful. Advice is welcome on how to boost my flow of study.
Only two minor updates, most of my work today has been in pencil- working from Loomis' "fun with a pencil"
a page of gestures, I have more on paper since i've done more these days with pencil/pen. Will scan some later on.
some initial work for the CHOW and some anatomy and gestures.
horrible self portrait (I got really annoyed with it!) and some 60secs as well as rocks for enviromentoring thread.
I honestly don't know how I got to this, but I was at a complete roadblock as to what to draw and paint and...this happened >.> Had fun though in the end :p
No ref used, it was completely from imagination.

sketch dump + a portrait. Love Summer Glau though she didnt come out here looking at all like she should have.
The rest are pencil studies, trying to get the "torso" shape right in basics.
Some of the things i did today. ugh so frustrating! it feels like i'm not improving at all. :/
Been faaar too lazy to scan the pages of my SB so heres the stuff over the past 3 days:
A Wip for the CHOW (steampunk copellia) shes a bit unclear here but the center where her organs would be is supposed to show her clockwork interior.
More sketches, gestures and anatomy studies, as well as some sort of chained woman. As well as the self-portrait I was supposed to post on Friday for my "self-portrait every Friday" task also, there is a 2 hour study from a photo-ref by MJ Ranum called "Atlas hasn't shrugged yet"
Last are trees from DAMJAN's Enviro thread, which I find is awesome, and helping me gain understanding of more "random" parts of nature. Personally Trees seem easier to do than rocks- well at least in Photoshop. I hate trying to do them with pencil.
Also: a page of (58) 30-40 second gestures from posemaniacs.
more, a photo-life drawing and 52 gestures, - 110 so far..890 more to go : /
I have to say that your work looks good, its good to see how you think when you're doing your gestures. The atlas guy and the chained girl look impressive.
Thanks for the comment on my SB, I've been a bit lazy in terms of finding the time to get down to some solid drawing, but I shall take your advice and apply myself. Watch this space !
bwaah, I really despise portraits, I can't copy them at all! It's like the likeness of what i'm drawing completely eludes me >.>
This is "supposed" to be Portman but it looks like a spawn of Satan! *kills it with fire*
oh and some trees:
