Hey, pretty new to this whole conceptart.org thing, but thought this would be a good way to initiate myself into the community. I'll be posting things like exercises, sketches, and playing around in photoshop stuff.
These first things are some concepts for an environment class i'm in, and the figure is just some stuff from a recent figure drawing session.
Really nice comps. I don't know if they are studies or not. but the values are clear and if you squint they hold together well.
On your figures, I didn't see any structure to how you were building up your figures. if you are drawing from reference, this means you training your eye but you aren't doing in exercise in how something fits together and this can hurt your imaginative drawing later on.
Keep it up. focus on your strengths and keep working on your weaknesses.
Thanks, Thyname! I love the constructive feedback. The environments were thumbnails drawn from imagination, and assisted by reference. For my figures, i was focusing on gesture that night, but your completely right in keeping mind the structure; I can see why they are kind of falling apart in the longer poses.
Here's some more stuff.
First stuff: classwork in photoshop
Next stuff: Studies from my actual sketchbook. Playing around with my new brush/ink pens.
Last thing, 15 min photoshop sketch of my goldfish.
I went to an awesome workshop with Anthony Jones today and it really inspired me. I realize i need to focus on drawing each line/stroke more deliberately and be really clear in what i'm painting. That's my nuclear goal for my artwork right now. Focusing on values and really giving each line/stroke a purpose. No more noodling!
