Yo, I finally getting the guts to post my artwork to pretty much anywhere.. which I know is pretty bad if you want to grow as an artist. Hence why I'm here.
A little about myself and journey to this point... Loved drawing when I was growing up and my parents were very supportive of this. I read a few art books when I was growing up and took art class in high school. Down side to this story is art seemed to take second place after video games took center stage pretty early on in my life. Since that point it was always easier to go "pwn a few n00bs" rather then to sit down and study art.
So I'm here to take things more seriously and I guess try to get back to basics since mostly everything has been self taught/learnt from tutorials on the net.
First picture I did was on a tutorial it talked about throwing down random scribbles and turning that into a face. I did a heap of sketchs but just rendered one up with a little more.. structure.
Second picture was again trying to draw a face but drawing from an image to try and reproduce it taking note of form and lighting. For some reason I choose Tom Selleck.
As I said, I want to get back down to the basics. So I'm going to try doign more drawing from reference with portrits and poses leading about form and drawing from the "minds eye". leading on to a closer look at anatomy in the future.
But please if you think I should be spending my time on something more useful then please let me know.
Cheers for reading my life story

Awesome start. Looking forward to seeing you update regularly.
I'm no artist but this is amazing. You should draw!
You are really god with your pen!! Love it!
Welcome to CA
looking good! im not skilled enough to crit, but I'll ask, did you paint the dots on the guy's coat, or is there a texturepattern there?
very good work on him, though come to think of it, it looks to me like his skull is a bit "flat", as if the back of his head isnt all that far away from the front of it, do you know what i mean?
welcome to ca :ca: keep going
Thanks all nice to feel welcome!
aks9: Yeah I just made a texture pattern and placed that all over his suit jacket. As for the flat head your 100% right. Thing I really hate about art is when you look at something for agers you can't pick up on big issues like that! So thanks for pointing it out and I'll make sure to fix it up!
Just finished another portrait. This time of George Calombaris for anyone out side of Australia George is a judge of a reality cooking show called Master Chef. Why I choose him... probably because he doesn't have a flat head
Still want to clean up a few areas but I wanted to post before I went to bed. So there he is for now...
Posting up my efforts from yesterday, I choose this picture of Kobe Bryant.
I wanted to do someone well known, a picture that didn't have the "oh I'm getting a photo of myself taken smile" and something with a lot of interesting lighting.
I loved all the bounce light from his singlet and all the orange lighting bouncing off the basketball court.
On my last few pictures I've been painting in the shades then adding the Hues over the top. I wanted to try something a bit different this time. Skipping the line work and just painting in the colors/shading all in one.
I haven't been a complete slacker up to this point. My uncle died a few weeks ago so I've been doing a picture for my aunty. I'll post that up once I get it printed and sent to her.
Sooo.. that me up till now. peace out!
nice rendering on this last piece dude, the proportions of the face feel a bit wonky though.
the lines around the eyes of your last two studies are either too thick or too dark, standing out more than the should. keep up the good work!
adamsimons: Thanks for the comment. Your totally right about the wonky face. In a perfect world I hope one day to be able to draw a face with out having to do a lot of reworking but that days along way off. I guess the two issues I think I have with drawing is not enough training about where things are meant to lay. As well as my eye isn't good enough to get things right straight off. Pretty much the whole reason I'm here to learn these things, while keeping myself motivated.
I'm working through the Andrew Loomis books to help with the technical side of drawing at the moment.
Did some random body sketches today to keep things rolling:
Hi PeterWade and welcome to ConceptArt
I think you're on the right track here but i think you might be moving too fast. Its good that you're doing studies and you should do as many of them as you can, however i think that it would benefit you to start with nude figures before you move onto clothed ones. In this last post your anatomy doesn't seem quite there. Take a look at this site, http://pixelovely.com/tools/gesture.html and do some timed figure studies to practice anatomy its also a good exercise to do isolated anatomy studies. Instead of full bodies, do some hand sketches, then maybe some foot studies etc.
Hope this helps
Your first post is great keep going!
Thanks jiina for the site, its pretty awesome. I want to do more studies from it when I get time.
I found out a mate has been doing life drawing classes for a while now. So I finally bit the bullet and went to my first one a few weeks ago.
I'm posting my sketches from that as well as life drawing from last week. Along with random pictures from the site jinna posted. I'm also posting the image I posted about before about my Aunt/Uncle.
Simon Pegg was nice enough to come and visit Australia the other week to promote his movie "Paul" I was luck enough to meet him for a brief moment. So with that and "hot fuzz" being shown on TV. I drew/painted this picture.
Been way to long. Since doing the picture of Simon Pegg my computer decided it had lived a good life and didn't want to turn on again. Well the motherboard at least. So I've replaced a few bits and it seems to be working again.
On a personal note the company I was working for BlueTongue Entertainment was also shut down. So that really sucked. So I've been doing a "little" bit of freelance work.
I drew the line work for Pyramid head just before Christmas "because nothing says Christmas like silent hill -_- " and did the last of his rendering this morning. I'm going to leave him there since I have other work to get on with.
Hope everyone had a good Christmas and all the best for the new year.
