Very impressed with the work you have shown here, i really like the landscapes and the car stuff. Are you using sketch up or maya for the 3d stuff?
hey thanks dude!
i used 3DSMax... the people who programed it are geniuses; the lighting engine thing, Mental Ray, beautifully simlulates sunlight and is very user friendly even if youve just started. Recommended.
i went into town and bought a book and tried drawing some humans today. it was HARD. they never stop moving, and theyre difficult to spy on. and the goddamn ugly dude always stands infront of the cute girl. ugly dude Im trying to edit you out of my reality stop moving into line of sight.how do they know?
it was also fun being that drawy dick on the bus. i always see them and now i am one..
im definitely prone to many of the bad habits that seme to trouble lots of other inexperienced folks; faces are intimidating and i just pussed out several times.. see below..
By the end Id drunk so much coffee I was too twitchy to work and called it a day

Ranunkle: thank you very much. Yeah its a whole new world this controlling colour with your hand on screen isnt it. I was too scared to get a wacom for years and actually ended up trying to draw with the mouse (brown face, grey girls back, girl in doorway) which was knackering.
On the other hand theres so much to learn, its a perfect cross between horrifying and exhilarating. Like skiing.
I like your stuff, you clearly know what youre doing and will be great with practice.
Sean: muchismo gracias!
the A1 joining the A428. Thats on my way back from Macdonalds breakfast. the beauty of ugly places right? that was another mouse paint...Heres the ref
I forgot about this but you may like to see..
theres an author i really like called Cordwainer Smith. he was a very interesting man, and in his professional life amongst many other things he wrote the CIA psychological warfare manual.
he wrote a spectacular book of short stories and novel or two and then died in his 50s. if youre on amazon pick up a copy of The Rediscovery of Man, its a breathtakingly innovative, beautiful, horrible poetic and wise slice of genius grade science fiction, 20 times better than this discription, and youll love it. think vonnegut crossed with cormac mccarthy crossed with aesop.
Imagine Myazake made Dune, in fact, Butlerian jihad and all, and then cut out 80% of the film leaving strategically scattered little vignettes.
the keystone story that ties all the others together is called Alpha Ralpha boulevard which you can enjoy here.
here are soem quick sketches of a key location as a start, the ancient, damaged stratospheric roadway leading to an eerie god computer thing that was long ago enbedded in the face of the immense stem of and arcology called Earthport. Sounds liek and EOW already right?
the ultratalented citizens of CAO could bring this brilliant story cycle to life in a way no one else on the planet could. i guarantee you if you read the stories youll be inspired..
btw the Abba Dingo isnt discribed as a giant upsidedown cross, dont blame the story for that its my bad!

I dont know what to say guys. When I clicked through your work I was like "yep, this is how it should be done." Im really chuffed you like thus stuff, Thankyou very much for having a look here.
If any other CAOers read this, follow the links to Mario and Colins books. Its really superb work.
look, this is like a haiku : http://conceptart.org/forums/attachm...1&d=1295136780
Here are some sort of video sketches of Alpha Ralpha Boulevard.
It would be a beautiful if hostile place; as high as Killimanjaro, very dry, a thin cold jetstream wind shuffling a few bleached or leathery human structural components scattered about.
at the time of the story the world is emerging from 14000 years of the sort of life depicted in Brave New World; rational, peaceful, emotionally repressed, and slowly failing. it's been organised along antlike eusocial lines that we humans find repellant, and the people have lost their way.
So the weather machines have been turned off and normal weather, and danger allowed to resume, on the understanding that this will make people feel alive again. This is the Rediscovery Of Man from the title. At the time of their meeting the Abba Dingo the protagonists are hours ahead of the advancing front of a hurricane, so things are going from bad to worse..

You have a very interesting sketchbook. I like your ballpoint skecthes, keep it up!
Hello there! Really like the fact you're working in digital and traditional, it's always interesting to see how people vary their style when working in different mediums.
Anyways, enough rambling from me- Good start so far, hope to see more soon, so keep up the good work!
I like the architecture pencil pages. Post more, please!
man u have such a gift for crafting landscapes and buildings, i really like the sketch of the garbage truck and the treeline digitals... really awesome stuff i only wish i could do that or balance out between this and what i know. keep it up man, i mean it!
Wow.. incredible body of work! I especially enjoyed the gigantic engeneering stuff. Just wonderful. Love your pen sketches aswell!
Keep to it!
Thank you very much dude, I appreciate it! i will try to do more. come back in a few weeks and there should be lots more
JF dont take this the wrong way but I cant get enough of your anatomy. Your sb is like a reference library, youre doing a public service with that shit man.
Mucho Thankyou! The giant washing machine things! from a book called Beyond Heavens River by Greg Bear. Its a nice slice of smart sf with some very grand descriptions of Earth in 2300.
I got my laptop and found these doodles of those Masarat type arcologies. I didnt do the painting of the ship, it was laballed Kelly Highland but Im not sure of the artist. I can remove it, it was just for my own purposes not as a finished thing..
I found a load more stuff too that Ill delete from my Finally Finished section, slightly putting the lie to what I said about now more old, but its better here than FF where it looks a bit tatty. so sorry about the mix of new and old again
Naidy: Thankyou very much! Its been really fun these last few weeks getting back into drawing on paper or pad rather than just bashing it all together in 3d or photoshop... but i sure am scruffy and messy without ctrlZ.

simply wow, it's all so sharp and clear, i really like it , but personally i really love the cars with some lose brush strokes to them, gives such a great feeling, i found your final finish thread and i knew had i to peak into your sb, glad i did
Cheers guys! youre too kind but I appreciate it bigtime
my vehicles are v rough; but check out this guy and this guy, who I think are really good:
A lot of the best guys dissapear into Audi or wherever and you never see their work again apart from some headlight design on the new A4... a shame I think.
Here are some more doodles recent and old, 3 hours max

Anytime dude, youre deffo on the right track!
Yep all sorts of stuff; I have a very short attention span... too short to really master any single thing, but I see the work of Syd Mead and want to do then Bumskee then Kareem Iliya then William B Hand, and Coro and so on...
they all have studying for years in common..
more random study- 30 second posemaniacs are HARD!.. i seem to have to put lots of scribbly lines down instead of one or two correct ones so it all looks messy and ugly... still a looong way to go...

Thanks for the comment mate. That's great to know because I thought they were a lot more interesting than the design that was chosen... But hey such is life I love your SB everything looks so clean and shiny!
I always drop my jaw when i see what you have done next. Really enjoy the architectural work. Keep them coming.
Gah, im so jealous of your 3d architecture work! It's looking incredible man, keep it up.
Love the bold architecture stuff. Nice studies too.
"You might be disappointed if you fail, but you will be doomed if you don't try"
cool visualisations. :-)
regarding loomis, some people swear by it while others have difficulty. it was the first thing that was thrust into my hands when i began my design/drawing course. i learnt the stick figures book. it was useful for about a month, but further into those books i found it hard to follow. but it's definately an industry standard kind of thing.
just don't use the stick figures to help draw real people. it doesn't really work well.
I love the abstractions! The future concepts are really awesome. Your statement in the first post is inspirational.
