finally I decided to start my own sketchbook.
I hope critiques ans comments will help me to get better.
I think I'm not the regular sci-fi / fantasy artist like we are used to find here but I believe any help will....help !
In fact there was a time I've been more attracted by children's book.
I will first send some of my previous works then I wil post some WIP's I am working on.
And maybe I'll get the courage to update it on a regular basis with sketches and studies, I really hope so.
thank you !
And as usual if you want more : www.yanivportfolio.com

here is a Wip I am trying to finish.
I think I achieved a nice feeling, but's there is a lot more to do.
I am aware of many problems (like adding some brighter colors at the centre of interest, and some perspective issue).
But any commments would help me keep the motivation.
If anyone feels like mentoring me, I am open to any suggestion.

quick one in the morning,
I'll try do do more like this.
Hi, very nice work here especially the first few pieces! I love the frog The only thing I can think to critique is perhaps try boosting the structure of your forms by giving them some more contrast between the different colored areas. An example being the inside of the penguins lips-it looks to be all one color but if you added a dark line and/or shading in there it'd stand out better. Same with his eyes, like where the eyelids meat, and the pelican's eyes and parts of his body too. It looks like you're missing that "line" layer-although it doesn't have to be a line, just darker shaded areas, it'd help hold them together more I think.
Another quick study.
I am quite happy with it for now, but I am waiting for your comments on my sketching process.
Another quickie, trying to vary subject.
As always feedback is mucho apreciated
another quick one
quick character sketch, playing with flash
I love flash for sketching.
Hey guys, I am working on this wood master of darkness creature design, and I'm having trouble nailing down the holding arm.
Please can anyone give me some references for such a gesture ? it would be soooo nice ! I just cant find any in front view

Since I got accepted to Tad's Sketchbook 1 class, and also since I got back to full time job, the need to sketch has got back.
I need to draw at least 1 hour to remember how great it is, I guess it is because I need to warm up, my self confidence is growing up slowly and it feels good.
I hope it will be the same with life drawing, for now I got a hard time sketching people in the street or the bus.
All these are from photos reference
Any advice about sketching would be much apreciated.
I hope you'll enjoy.
More sketches from photo reference.
My life sketches are still too bad for me to upload them, but I try to sketch in the bus every morning and evening.
Trying some shading while experimenting with softer pencils.
A lot of quality is lost during the scanning process.

another batch of sketches, with some life drawing in bonus.
I am trying to find interesting games and balnce between lines weight and shading.
back to my wacom.
about 2h, Still a lot of mistake but I am quite happy with it.
My regret is that I painted it against a white background.
But I don't want to work more on it for now.
great work yaniv! Based on seeing your first couple of posts, I think you would do great in children books. I like how you handle your colors. It sets a warm and comforted feeling that I used to get when I would read children books when I was young. Also I love the looseness in you line quality. great sketches and contourmanship you have. I would suggest that you study facial anatomy to bring out the faces more and also do some figure studies to get a better sense of volume. other than that, keep practicing!
thank you yogeshj25 !
it makes me so happy to see so traffic on my page.
And you are right I don't work enough with volumes.
Currently I am focusing on line quality ( wich is kinda related to the sort of illustration I want to do), but I a believe I will soon spend more time on my sketches and and work on the volume and anatomy aspect.
those cartoony images are pretty good, but your human figures still need alot of work but i see you are already working on it. Also dont forgot to draw nudes so u learn the shapes of the human figure itself
I don't really like this one, I think I messed up because of misuse of brushes.
It's too blurry in my opinion. I thought using a dirty brush will help get the fell of the texture quickly and help give a feeling of rawness.
I was wrong, I will try with a simple hard round brush next time.
I probably didnt get the right tonal pattern that fits to the rocks material also.
Any help fixing that would be grreatly apreciated
Cool work so far. Sketches and studies are always good to see. I'd say my one corrective comment might be that the graveyard pic is a bit busy between the noisy sky and ground textures as well as the gaudy tombstones. Apart from that it's all good. Keep it up!
thanks dude !
keep doing what your doing, practice and lots of it is the key doesnt matter what you draw or paint you get better at it with time, painting from photos and life will improve your light and color, drawing lines of people and objects will improve your eye hand coordination and figure perception, any way you look at it keep drawing none stop.
Also some books would do the kick, Loomis, Hogarth, Bridgeman... some you might want to look into.

@Danny_K, Hogarth was the name I was looking for ! haha thank you.
I worked a bit from bridgeman a long time ago but Loomis didn't attracted me so much.
I definitely need to sit get back on those.
Today I worked more on my evening sketch, and I think the result is better.
I'd really appreciate critiques on this one so I can push further my painting process.
more environment studiy, few hours long
