Awsome works until now! epic chow!
iv'e been wacthing this thread since day one, and i never though of joining...
but the other day i started this just as a doodle for fun, and it ended up working better than i thought...
anyway still not sure if i will be able to finish it, but here it is the "Famine" horseman
more coloring... added fire to sword.
hehe i love to say this ..."WAR is over"
Licorize - This may help push your design. Exaggerating your poses to imply action could provide good anticipation and narrative. I think you want it to feel like your character is shouting his War cry right before he punks his enemy and eats his face... or he could be yawning. In this case, pushing his pose will help describe what he is doing/did/will do, and more importantly help people understand what he is thinking.
The wyverns wings are currently in profile with the view plane, which is always difficult to communicate. Putting them in an exaggerated pose (like the dude riding it) may give them depth and form just by changing the shapes. This will also give the image more movement.
I assume this could be the War or Conquerer character, so he/she should fit those assumptions and criteria. Make sure to look up reference of things like wyverns, dragons, large birds, cloth for the character, swords, bridles, or anything else that you are drawing and guessing at.
Cool to see you posting up here as a high school student. Hopefully this helps a bit.
Here comes white one
Hey guys, I am really inspired by all the work from you guys, it really keeps pushing me into new levels!
Right now I am trying a new approach to my "image creation process".
I didnt like the idea that I started digitally and finished it up digitally... means all is done in the computer. I love the smell, feel of real pencils colors aso.... so I tried to blend the medias....
This is still a WIP, I havent done anything in PS yet, this is all watercolors except the BG.... Conquest/Pestilence is still missing.... I am working on it..
C&C are very welcome!
To say mine is rough so far is an understatement BUT I am putting this up as a way to commit myself to finishing it in time. I started it late last night and this is other than an apple and banana my first digital work SO critiques welcome, but this is very rough with little detail so far.
Just saw this thread today. Figured I'd give it a shot, so here's my take on them...
gonna have a pre-apocalyptic genre along with post~
i tried to make this symbolic, not as heroic as it should be for the first look. maybe like theater costumes, or tarot cards.
Looking good - a tip though would be not to paint onto white, always paint onto colour its SOOOO much easier... and faster! To say mine is rough so far is an understatement BUT I am putting this up as a way to commit myself to finishing it in time. I started it late last night and this is other than an apple and banana my first digital work SO critiques welcome, but this is very rough with little detail so far.
Hey-o. Another update. I suppose one could Pixel F#$k these types of things forever, so I'm movin' on up. A next step could be to isolate each character in a separate image.
BTW... If you haven't listened to the Inception soundtrack, you're missing out. As usual, Hans Zimmer smashes it. Makes me want to drive way too fast while hanging out my window with a tommy gun shooting at the sun, Heath Ledger style.
Bnoch: Really beautiful...
My wip of war :
bnoch - only crits i got are that death looks a little flat compared to the others, maybe put him more into shadow; and that she size of his horse's skull is too big. if you think what size it would be,were flesh added to it, it's out of proportion.
Just finished Conquest-pestilence ...2 more to go
@ Bnoch ...awesome work
Wow, I am so humbled by the work you guys are putting out. Here is my next update where I'm working on the "horses". Trying to make each unique to its user. Also, I decided to split the figures into individuals instead of a group shot to allow more designing and less composing. Ideally I could do both, but I'm not that good yet.
Hey yall. This is great stuff. Here is my update. I have a thread in the crit section if you wanna pop into it
So far the common crit is that its hard to read. I definitely recommend doing each horseman independently. Putting all four just takes away from their potential. You have to dumb everything down so that everything reads
Been working on this, on and off, over the holidays, here's what I have so far for Death.
Great concepts so far from everybody!
finished rendering War. I'm not really all that pleased with how it turned out; it just seemed like the longer I worked it the less I liked the direction I was headed. But whatever, maybe I'll re-work it a bit later. Time to get to work on the last two!
@artfix i dont think it's hard to read, i really like it, it's supose to showcase alot of stuff, it's not easy to put in a "simpel line", i think you've done a great jobb on this, every horse goes diffrent way , diffrent feel, therefor you can seprate themapart, atleast this is my personal opinion
ok i admit i was intimidated my bnoch's piece of awesomeness so i decided to take it to the opposite direction as much as was humanly possible! i had an idea about a Mucha inspired depiction of the 4 horsemen or in this case women.
conquest and death are almost finished. tell me what you think...
My internet conncetion at home is down at the moment, but I will post my work on Death as soon as I can!
Bnoch, you´re image is truly inspiring, love your colors and composition!
I saw this thread last Friday and thought that I'd finally participate in a CHoW thread...
dbed - don't forget that they need to have steeds/things to ride.
artfix - would love to see a bigger version
broken lawnmower - the yellow bg is a bit overpowering. also the highlights are kinda all over the place, makes it rather hard to read.
quinn simoes - nice colours. kinda giger meets heavy metal overall
so of course i procrastinated too much and won't be able to do all four on time. instead i'm gonna focus on pestilence. the bow's gonna be back in the final. have to check the horse's anatomy. c&c welcome!
