WoW love the studies and I think it might not be a bad idea to post studies every other day just so that you can have a good amount to post and we both can bounce of each others studies and offer some crits , what ya say?
Eh I had a rude awakening from this article by one of the members here http://chiseledrocks.com/main/musing...old_the_pencil
I was holding the pencil wrong this whole time and i was wondering why my lines felt so emotionless and stiff.
so after feeling #$@! frustrated I decided that little research was in order and
the results were immediate and more than a placebo effect (for me)
The main cause was that I was drawing from my fingers and wrist instead the movement coming from the entire arm even the hip if you are standing.
With this new insight I some studies to do ^_^
Hamptons book caused me to realise something was wrong with my lines >>
Bam the results for me were instant maybe not as big from another persons view but for me its huge

@Azu AWESOME! I am glad you figured that out! There is a technique to how you hold the pencil based on what kind of line you want. If you want o be looser in your lines then you hold it the "correct" way you are starting to hold it now BUT if you want to zoom in to get the details then the original way is how you do it.
Warm up with some oval and stuff before you draw! (you can search that up) Helps with keeping the lines fluent.
I DO want to keep this a DAILY thread so I will just have to turn the dial to the "4" setting. Imma turn things up a notch!
So for the men. I didn't really care much at all and they turned out better. I didn't want them to look good so I would say that allowed my brain to focus on other things like.. you know.. gesture stuff. I listened to alex woo while drawing and he said to "not focus on the beauty. I should have listened earlier while drawing the men.
PLUS who wouldn't want the females to look good!!!
Woah. This JUST got NSFW. hehe. Anyway I am having a problem where I can draw individual parts of the body ok enough but if I have to draw the whole body it starts looking like craaaaap. I NEED some help on that.

I love you guys!
dude super improvement loving the gestures. Therapeutic aren't they? i really like the face in the last piece. keep it up!
Since you're painting in gray scale i assume you're trying to learn values. This is a pretty big hurdle to get over, especially when it comes to colored objects. If i turn the image over to gray scale mode, you see it's a lot darker then you actually think.
Hey Man, thanks for your comment. Thought I'd stop by your sketchbook
On your newest piece, her anatomy is off. I'd suggest doing a bunch of figure drawing, (which I see you are already doing for sure) but don't get tied down to your lines. Just do quick gestures until you get your lines in place. Then from there go into smaller details, commit to your lines. Don't start in one area and work your way around.
Do studies of the things that are hurting you most! (So many hands and feet!)
Keep it up, try messing around with your pencil before you get into digital too much. It really helps to study more traditional stuff (as I'm quickly learning!) Fall in love with your pencil. Seriously, it's an amazing tool.
Ixallus Dude, I feel like crap! Duh! Of course I change the image to grayscale! Man, I can't believe I forgot such a simple thing. Thank you! Now I see my mistakes in black and white ;p Thank you for the input!
liquorbleu I thought I could have drawn her torso and work from there but it failed. I just started doing gestures but clearly I need to do thousands more! Haha. i will definitely do more in pencil. I need it. Thank you for the crit!
Again its good that your keeping the studies up!
I am doing my studies but I found a new love Charcoal :3
So a new journey has begun for me again trust me it like a whole new thing my gestures have improved too but i am doing mostly simple forms right now.
Diving into loomis FDFAIW like i did probably wasnt the best idea =(
Instead i am using the successful drawing book with this thread http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=223686
I feel awful that i was using that book for so long when I should have started with the perspective book and the simple form studies.
Well when I get a bit more stable my sketchbook will see some action ^^

@Azu charcoal seems really cool and i want to jump on that train too. A lot of ground can be covered it seems so I would love to try. Keep pushing dude!
I have a couple days worth of drawing to scan at school which I will post in a few hours. In the meantime here is the beginning of a study I am doind of some an undergarment. I am trying to "paint" it using value instead of line and that is pretty hard seeing that I have only painted once in my life with real paint.
Also I screen pasta'd the tutorial from ctrlpaint to try and learn how the guy was painting over the ship he created. So you can see how bad I failed here is the link.
Here is to hope!
Those are some great hand studies i really like how you made the grip on the gun. Also when your doing gestures try making an action line in the center, they're missing that dynamic movement a gesture encompasses
I think I kinda draw that line in my head or very lightly on the paper. What you are saying would make it more dynamic so I will do that!
Now I have tried to do everything on one layer here and I am hating all those wobbly lines!!
Need to get a scanner if I am going to keep this thing daily. In the meantime, ENJOY! took 10+ hours for a class assignment

rishenko Thank you and will do!
Whirly Thank you man! I hope the teacher likes it!
friedbrain Hey i saw them! Hands are kinda annoying but just think of the day you can draw them out of your head! Thanks again.
Here is what I am working on.
matty_mcmullen Thank you man. Thank you. I have a habit of celebrating the "good" thing I did and not moving forward. I also want to get good at imaginative stuff. Afraid I am running away from it because I think im gonna suuuuuuuck.
