I have decided I really want to purchase a Cintiq 12 and I am wondering if there is an update coming soon or not. I would very much dislike to buy one if something new and improved is about to release. Any tips / advice would be grateful, Thanks
Wacom has a tendency to update their products in certain time cycles, and I did a little research on the Cintiq line for you. (:
The first generation Cintiq UX was first introduced in 2005, and it was updated this year, not counting the other LCD tablets they have, so, roughly five years to update the Cintiq. The Cintiq 12wx was released in 2007, so, roughly in 2011-12 there should be another update to the 12wx line.
Now, I normally would advise anyone to just buy the tool when they need it, but since the Cintiq 12wx is the first of its kind, and has its fair share of issues like bulky cables, pen jitter to the side (on all tabletpcs and LCD tablets), small screen size, point accuracy is a little low, etc, you may want to wait and see if the new one will have a better upgrade. Also, if you don't need the upgrade but would still like to wait, when the new Cintiq is released, the older model will have a price reduction. Just some things to consider.
Although, like I said, if you can overlook those things and are not planning for portability, go ahead and buy the Cintiq now. (:
For anyone curious about the release dates of other models:
Cintiqs- roughly five years
Intuos- roughly four years (five this time around because they had released special edition Intuos3s earlier)
Bamboos/Graphires- roughly every two years
Thanks a lot!
This helped me decide. I am going to wait because of the low accuracy and the bulky cables. I think I can get away with my intuos until the update ^^
There is inaccuracy on all tablet pcs and LCD tablets, regardless if there is actual jitter to the side or not. I should have made this more clear. It's not really noticeable, but the lines near the side of the screen have a tendency to slope off wrong, or occasionally get wiggly, even on tablet pcs. Sometimes the lines just get more organic and aren't as definite. You can see this here, and your model to be exact- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLqG5...eature=related
And glad I could help! Hope you can wait it out, tee hee.
