Dear God this 4th page will never end!!! pld:
EDIT: Wooooot! I have a new page in my artsy life
But I'm so pumped after watching the bloodsports results, it was hillarious
fenixx, I'm so waiting for you to update too, do it!
You are so totally right about the stupid grass thing brush. It sucks. So I reworked that part, I hope it's not so shitty anymore.
And the Vilppu studies I'm doing now is totally opening my eyes. So big thanks to you dude.
And thanks for the golden links, I can eat them like a starving granny eats candies
tsabu, thanks for the good words, appreciate that
Have you hacked my webcam or somthin?! Because Feng Zhu is exactly what I'm watching in these last days. His approach is a bit different, he is working in grayscale and then put a color layer on top of that. Probably I should do that too, because there is no point of nice colors if the values are totally wrong.
Lumens, thanks for stepping by, you are so right about the brushes, a year ago I was telling the same to others "don't use all those fancy brushes!, learn the basics", now I have forgot it, thanks for reminding me that So I made a new enviro study only with one brush.
So here we go, tumdurum, the studies of last couple days:
Vilppu LESSON 2 - SPHERES

Sorry for being a lazy ass in last days. Must get back to studies
Nothing much to show... stuff from life and forcing myself to draw from imagination
Got new toys - Copic markers
Last edited by vanaga; February 7th, 2012 at 12:55 PM.
love the 2 envis !
my Sketchbook plz help me become a better artist !
Thank you my lovely beautiful sketchbook people, you are the best
I know it's hard to look at this shitty stuff, but I promised myself to post everything.
Also sorry for not having a scanner
Half imagin. half ref
Frazetta, Vallejo studies
Nice drawings u have here. I like particulary the sketch on the A3 paper, but all the drawings are great. Can wait to see what`s next!
Awww, gaaad, I haven't updated for ages.
Must figure out how to force myself to draw more regular
Fenixx! Great to see that you're back and updating too. And you are somehow doing that more often than me, I don't know how you manage to do it.
The pen sketches are the pen sketches , no penciling before them. I heard somewhere that it helps to practice more comfident lines. But they suck, yes.
And you should definately push more to imaginative stuff. Vilppu totally opened my eyes on how to draw what's in your imagination (I sent you PM).
Lately I'm slacking on Vilppu studies, but now I'm back
Jansi, that copic thing was from reference (raving rabbits), it's not my idea And I'll keep up, thanks!
Robert88, Thank you for looking at all that stuff back there, I'm happy you like this stuff
Lion from ref and Frazetta
Dude from imagination and other stuff while watching Futurama
From movie screenshot
From Vilppu book, was very frustrating, not a single line go where I want it
Back to Vilppu gesture studies, also very frustrating.
So. I decided to do 50 gesture figures till the end of this week (4th March) to force myself work more regularly. I can doooo iiiiiit!!!

yogeshj25, aww, yeah, here is the first batch of Vilppu studies
Monday - 12 of 50 gestures
Hmm, they don't look like gesture drawings, going too much into details
Less than 10min on each.
Last edited by vanaga; February 28th, 2012 at 04:55 AM.
Tuesday - 30 of 50
Huh, maybe I should go till 100?
Took a block of coal, now it's much easier to get rid of detailing too much
Great anatomical studies, man!
JaneMag, they are not that great, but thank you anyway
More from Tuesday - 40 of 100
I start to understand why artists need to warmup.
Weekend will be busy, so I must hurry up and finish these till Friday afternoon, arrrr

I know these are boring, but I think useful also, so bear with me for a while
Wednesday - 65 of 100
Nr. 53 was my dog from life, reworked him once more, but still prity bad:
Thursday - 90 of 100
4th march, so here goes the 100th gesture.
It's a pritty good way how to force myself to draw more.
This was a pritty bad day for drawing, sooo frustrating
Tried to work as loose as possible
And a crap from imagination
Copics is gooooooooooooooooood
I don't know why I was so afraid to draw from imagination.
Now I think it's an important part of learning process, even if it looks crappy.
Quick still life during the job:
I was lost.. so lost
I think I fell off the Earth
But I crawled back and hope to stay on for a while
Lumens, thanks, that means a lot for me to hear that imaginative stuff is not that bad
David W, heh, I know, that guy is just wierd. Thanks, I'll try to keep at it.
Some drawering from past...
Vilppu study. Learned that he forced his students to draw gestures 6 hours straight, each gesture for 13 seconds. Instead of practising gestures for years.
Maybe I should try that, hmm...
Sketching during patrols in Silent Hunter 3 and good ol' Bridgeman
These are from yesterday
Quick and crappy imaginative stuff
And got wild with the new Prismacolor whitey.
Ref from Boris Vallejo, awesome, awesome artist.
He and Frazetta are my idols.

Thanks for all the crits! much appreciated.
Honestly i'm having a tough time coming up with usefull feedack.
it comes down to drawing fundaments.. You're doing gestures wich is great!
Ask yourself what am i neglecting? isolate the problem, spend like a week on something really challenging and most of all be consistent and have fun.
like the 100 gestures in a week, thats awesome!
The white prisma color sketches look like all kinds of fun, why not try something stupidly hard? like a frazetta masterstudy.
Lumens, HUGE thanks for the advices, direct hit, exactly what i need. You are damn right, I should challenge myself more and step out of the comfortable zone.
My next moves = fundamentals + challenges
Should be a good formula to improve. Thank you Lumens for stepping by and kick in the butt
Started something stupidly hard, Frazetta masterstudy
Scribbles scrabbles, imagination and Hogarth
Some more work on Frazetta study. There's like a ton of mistakes. Can't get the colors right.
VILPPU - Lesson 3: Boxes
Hey it looks like a recognisable frazetta girl
I'd say focus on values more than colors.
More or less what shockowaffel already mentioned.
Frazetta is a master of power compositions, you will find almost exclusively piramid shapes and upside down piramids.
Watch how he conveys a sense of action and dynamic by having his most important figures leaning in a diagonal direction. Keep it upp!
Was out in Space for so long time
Picked up acrylics again
Damn, it's so hard to mix right colors
