Wow, I haven't been active on here in forever. Anyways, I found this thread while googling the chuck scholarship. I received the scholarship for 5k, which isn't a lot but I'm glad I got something. I'm attending Ringling's computer animation program come fall and I'm probably going to look like an asshole because I haven't really read through the entire forum, but I figured I should introduce myself. Soooo.. I'm Sarah, and Hello, new classmates!

You haven't lost your aesthetic views and talents. In future, there will be a stage for you to SHINE~ Btw, I have conformed enrollment to xxxx
@maanas.93: hehehe, easy dude, Ringling should be "xxxxxxxx", mine is "xxxx". I got to walk with "two legs", so I confirmed my enrollment to xxxx.
Congratulations rainingwalker for getting accepted to xxxx!
Sorry to hear you won't be attending, snotty and stefanie. I really like both of your work. Best wishes!
Yeah, maanas. I'm pretty sure you're the only one. Have you tried contacting admissions again? I received my acceptance package last Monday - maybe they send them out in waves?
Aww thanks guys! I'm surprised people haven't gotten their financial packages yet, that's so strange. They can't really expect people to be able to decide on attending or not without it, and don't they start giving away spots of those who haven't sent in their decision yet at the beginning of next month? Hm. Well I hope they come!
@maanas & Addle: Oh, sorry dudes, I made both of u confused. I haven't given up my last chance to join Ringling's computer animation. I've just asked xxxx to issue my I-20 form and promised to submit the $750 deposit to keep my spot, cos their deadline of submitting the deposit is May 1st, but the letter from Ringling said they would start clearing the wait-list in the first week of May...so I guess I have to pay xxxx first, meanwhile I'll wait my spot from Ringling till mid of May. If I get one by then, I'll inform xxxx not to enroll, then tell them to keep the deposit and that "I'm a jerk". How does my plan sound??
Expensive. Your plan sounds very expensive.
But it's fantastic that you're waiting it out! I hope they overlook your 3D stuff and animations and look at your other work. It's fantastic!
@maan.93: Yeah, exactly man! Why can't they simply inform us: Am I the next one that is going to get a spot or how many of us were wait-listed? cos "a number of" sounds like one or two hundreds of applicants are on that list... hehehe =。=;; Let's assume I am the next lucky guy, or you are the one and I'm behind you, I ain't going to pay that 750 big ones to another school, right? hehehe~
@Addle: Thanks dear, I hope they do. My lecturer and I had spent quite some time on improving my submitted portfolio, I really tried my BEST to draw~
My only option is getting national and international external scholarships, or take one semester/year off going to college.
After having a long conversation with my parents, I (reluctantly) decided to decline my offer. My family can't afford the school at this time so I figured I should take time off from college and study, work, what not... Hopefully it won't be too long. I'm really disappointed right now but I'll get over it eventually... So, one more spot open for illustration for whomever on the waitlist. My mind is set on Ringling so I will reapply in the future. As usual, I have a few questions.
1. Since I was accepted before, is it possible that I'll be accepted again when I reapply?
2. I was accepted as an advanced sophomore... would it be possible that I'll be accepted in that position again when I reapply?
3. When I reapply, do I have to do the application from the start? (resending transcripts, getting new recommendations, portfolio...)
4. I remember there was Illustration Academy in Ringling course catalog... Can I transfer credits after I attend Illustration Academy to fulfill an elective?
Well, I'm going back to my lurking mode from this point on :p but I'll be back. lol Congrats again to those that are attending this fall and good luck to everyone!
Aw, I'm sorry that you won't be able to attend Cats, I'm sure next year you'll come back with an even more kick ass portfolio and get the scholarship that you deserve! Best of luck to anything you do this following year and hope to see you sometime in the future.
Little update, I was accepted into CA after being on the wait-list. My advisor called just today to inform me. Im beyond excited! Now the question is whether I can afford all this madness - I only have until the 15th of to decide.
Im extremely humbled by the creative art of everyone here, seriously motivates me to get my ass moving and working.
Best of luck to everyone and their collegiate decisions!
aaaaand I had to give up Ringling. And it was depressing. All because of money!
my teeth and ambitions are bared - be prepared
Do you believe in this sketchbook?
Catsmeow, have you considered a one year deferment?
@Believer: It's so sad that another talent has to give up because of financial probs, Hopefully you can come back next year, with loads of scholarships and loans!
@believer Im sorry hear that. Its sad to hear money is getting in the way, though with a portfolio as good as yours its hard to fathom money being an obstacle much longer.
@rainingwalker Thanks for the kind words I honestly have no idea where I was on the wait-list. I asked my admissions counselor if she could give me some sort of hint as to where I was - calm my nerves a bit; unfortunately she was always really ambiguous about it. Wish I had more to tell ya.
I do know that you might get some notification soon from the school since they're clearing out the wait-list as we speak.
Remember, being wait-listed means you're accepted into the school, just not the program. So even if you don't get into CA you can still go for any of the other programs. My Plan B, had I not gotten into CA ,was to go for Motion Design, which is similar CA. I toured the Motion Design facilities at Accepted Students Day, and was really impressed. Also, I talked to a few students there, and some of them transferred over from CA.
Hang in there. Hopefully this helps

I am planning to apply to Ringling in for the fall of 2013. Does anyone have any information about scholarship aid? I'd be a transfer student, so I wonder if I'd be elligble for anything; really will have a hard time affording school.
Maybe I should contact Ringling's admissions? I'm still developing my animation skillset in school, but it never hurts to start planning and figuring out what I'd need to do to get prepared for the future. Any scholarship info is appreciated!
"If it was easy, everyone would do it"
lurker here, just got my letters.
been reading about 5 pages back so sorry if this is repeat but a few questions:
- there's 1-2 classes I'd like to opt out in the illustration, mostly 'computer illustration' or something like that, I know how to use photoshop so I'm wondering if I can present a digital portfolio to 'skip' this class?
- hows the printing fees? whats the rules on that?
- about deferment, may I have it for 1 semester? I want to enter in the sprint term, not the fall term
thanks much, It's also good that I can keep fighting for more aid while in school. I see my self working part time, work study and online commissions to pay the rest through and hopefully most of my electives transfers and only need to take main studio classes.
oh, and how's that life drawing sessions? heard its every night, I really want to follow that.
And what is the work study like?
Congratulations on making it in maanas and Thelbsc!!! :'DD
Gosh! It seems like a lot of us on CA were waitlisted this year, but I'm glad they're starting to clear the list.
