The study is looking good! Don't forget some more dark lines around the edges of his back, and use a soft brush (even just a tiny amount cause I know you don't like em) to blend the darker shadowy colours into the lighter ones.
With the portrait, lower her right eye a little, also make the nose stick out a little more and give her more nostril, as from this angle and the shape of the nose you should be able to see more. Where her nose flattens to her cheek you should add a little more shade. Don't forget to apply your eye studies to hers! I drew over a little bit if you wanna have a look to compare changes. Mines way to 'airbrushy' but it gives you an idea of how I'd see it.
The imagination one is looking good but he could lower his axe to rest on his shoulders more or give him bigger shoulder muscles to make up the space. His legs are just a little too big in proportion to his torso, and push them back a little so he looks like he's leaning into the axe?
You got the proportions of the face right in the SP it just doesn't look like your features haha. I think it's just the big lips that throw it off.
Or I could be wrong, but you told me to just say crits so you got what you asked
So overall i'd say you've had a pretty good day.
Mincx- thaaanks for the crits! yeah im still sucking with a lot of facial things im finding it hard to transfer what im learning traditionally to digital (bloody soft airbrushed n stuff) so slowly trying to do more digital studies. Thanks again
Been a busy but non productive weekend. More on the master study, starting to feel like i've exhausted a lot of it so far. And another black and white doodle
Studies resume tomorrow though
final of the master study, A 3 hour still life, started the chow so theres err gestures and scrawlings from my head so sorry about that! and some noses to end the day on.
Will be doing still lives all week hopefully!
Heyy man, these last updates are looking good.
Those are some coool Sihlouettes, but my main problem with them is that they are all very symetrical, try add some more asymmetrical details and they should start to look a little more interesting.
The facial features on the master study are looking a little flat / unclear refining them might add make the features more apparent, also the neck is looking a little chunky as its almost merging into the head to make one whole shape, i'm not familiar with the original but perhaps trim the neck a little under the chin so that its more obvious that its more clearer to define.
Hope that makes sence, i'm a little tired.. keep it up! Your getting better man
Great journey through this sketchbook - your value in your colour studies and general form is getting good. theres a few issues with the alighnment of the eyes (on the last page- im not sure if u have corrected that yet) but try to think of them in perspective like anything else. great sketchbook though.
Glaudarien- Thanks for the advice man! the silhouettes were terrible costume ideas, i suck at those will try and get better!
Dog-faced- Thanks man yeah still working on the damn facial features
another still life, crappy value face and my idea for the beastmaster chow so far, struggling with the legs and his stance so theres so crappy versions could use some help
Ste- Thanks mate really struggling to keep up with ya haha
Another still life different approach took a while longer and not really refined after 3-4 hours. Loomis gestures which didnt help with my CHOW its just a big chunky mess now after trying to fix some anatomy ergh
On a lighter note, spent most my day looking after my dawg she had pups!
Mincx- Yeah nath said the same thing :< ergh will start again tmora
So no anatomy today i kinda used that time battling with this CHOW then got advice from Mincx and Nizzy just to start again haha,so will be doing that tomorrow
He's looking a lot better, big improvement on the face. Maybe give him some angry furrowed eyebrows to emphasise his ROAR. I think instead of having his feathery cape go under his arms you should try it more like a cloak where it fastens in the middle, think it would help the flow of his raised arm more. Could try adding some far away rocky mountains in the background to give a little more perspective too?
Mincx- Dont say that now! I've started again haha
Todays stuff, starting to get to grips with mixing refs kinda makes it a study in itself.. i should have realised this a lot earlier.
oh and for the few people that know what i look like, i swear i didnt mean for his face to look exactly like mine.. honest...
long live me.
youre doing good man. always nice to see someone workin hard for all these studies, try not to just copy shapes; understand what youre studying. suprisingly a lot of that actually comes from looking at your subject and not the painting part. also, bridgeman and vanderpoel and everyone are great, but doing studies of their stuff is just teaching you how THEY simplify forms; they learned from the real thing. try mixing in studies from photos/life as well and youll get a better understanding of it all.
hope that all helps keep it up!
Lancer- Thanks man that helped alot, i keep trying to remember and think of rules for that kind of stuff but only just started, i think next week im just gonna draw from life for the golden boy, hope that counts. Thanks again
Sooooo pushed the chow to a finish (kinda) glad i submitted but dissapointed i only had a few hours left for a sloppy colour pass. aaaand a nice long still life to end my week of Stills.
Learned a lot this week! and im doodling regularly too in my small moleskine but nothing of worth yet hehe.
Thanks for looking
Somebody just got a bit more awesome. WICKEDGOOD. Be careful with making sure there's no colour gone stray, e.g. on the CHOW I can see where you've missed erasing around the edges of him. I want to eat the shiny apple.. with the shiny spoon.
Mincx- Thanks yeah im still really sloppy with cleaning up my images
Mr Corlan- Thanks again man big help and great advice!
So got some great advice the past few days, back to some traditional stuff,
Im getting dragged from my studies until the end of month i guess for my birthday so will just be drawing whenever i can in my small sketchbook.
n1frit- thaanks man
Teapo- Thanks teapo! hopefully i can still remember everything after my little break.
I'm baaaaack 10 days off and im dyying to get back to work, but heres what i got done for the golden boy tommorrow only 21 days worth
back to it tmora soz for no update guuuise thought i'd post for golden boy anyway.
Here's some traditional stuff, gonna concentrate on gesture and drapery this month i suck at it!
Also used photobuckets batchuploader.. havent worked out how to edit multiple images so sorry if theyre all mixed up and huge
Your lines are getting better! Try to make more time comsuming drawings... like... a more detailed and complete study! You'll learn tons! Keep up the work man! You've got great ideas, can't wait to see what they'll look like when you refine your technical ability!

Not-deadman- thanks man, yeah deffo gotta spend more time doing some traditional studies
Alexson- thanks mate, yeah ive been using vilppu for the gesture studies ive been doing (2 posts ago i think) but i gotta get more of him done, cheers!
Todaaays stuff, Study is about 10 hours in now and i started the new chow i love drawing slobs.
the ideas there, time to get some reference and turn this into a study woop!
hey man, lookin good. that last batch of mma studies is solid. you got the proportions a lot more accurate than a lot of your other ones. whatever you did differently on those its working. colors are doing better too hue and value are good, just watch the saturation levels. you seem to have most of your colors in the 30-70% range. dont be afraid to push out in some areas; just be careful, its easy to let them get away from you
Lancer- THanks mate, no idea what i did different with the mma's haha but your right about the saturation its way too low on most of that study now i've looked at it errrgh. cheers!
Update- pushing some poop from life, more vilppu slow poses and the CHOW
