Hi, Vertical! Thank you!
krysjez, I ended up spending the money on some figure drawing classes. I'll consider watercolors for next time, though!
eekolite - You should have seen the bunnies IRL; they were so cute! I'll see what I can do about the figure drawing. I'm reluctant to promise anything atm because I'm feeling pretty run down, but tomorrow should be better. (Minus the beard, of course...)
Today I finally got to try my hand at drawing clouds. The drawings are scanning really badly - I forgot to push my values >.< - but I loved being under the open sky.
Yikes! I need to draw more women!
Brace yourselves! I got permission from today's model to post my drawings online. I was also told that it's okay to post the drawings of the other models, even though I haven't talked to them about it; apparently "owning all the rights" to a picture includes the automatic ability to post the images online. So, these will be uploaded in three installments: last Tuesday's, last Thursday's, and todays!
Watch this space...
TUESDAY AUGUST 3
Gestures: 2 minute, 5 minute, 7 minute, 10 minute, and 20 minute poses! 3 hours worth.

THURSDAY AUGUST 5
A long pose for the painters: 3 hours! I used 2hrs40 for this, then did a few small studies to fill the rest of the time.
I really, really wish I could use the scanner for this one. Maybe it would be worth my time to clean it up digitally?
Anyways, I think I'll wait until tomorrow to upload the images from today. I'll probably want to clean them nicely too, and it's just too late for that.
...Or maybe it's just the camera. :/
In any case, here's the drawings from yesterday! I had the mountain man do an extra pose just so I could sketch the back of his jacket.
Aaaand the sketch that I was planning to upload instead of all that!
man you got a lot of dedication. I can't keep at anything for more than a couple of days without getting bored. not to be corny or anything but you're kinda an inspiration. =D
uh about the drawing, i really liked the knife handle (is that what that is) and the toilet paper roll (i think). the shading on the knife handle is really subtle and realistic, i like that.
and the colors on the roll are sick. you should definitely do more colored stuff.
Wowee I missed a bunch of updates! Tons of figure drawing, wooo!
Careful with legs, some of them look fairly short. Balance is another key thing to perhaps focus on a bit. Try to pay attention to the center of gravity and what parts of body are on either side!
You're rockin it, keep goin and goin!!!!
gamersgene: I'm not feeling particularly dedicated atm; I slaaaaacked during today's figure drawing. Glad you like the knife (yep! it's my Xacto knife) and the toilet paper roll, though. (I still can't believe those colors worked!)
eekolite, I wish I'd seen your comment before I drew today. That would have given me something to pay attention to! Yeah, I've been doing bucketloads of figure drawing: I found a figure drawing studio that I love, and I found a way to pay for their sessions. I'll be going again next Thursday.
An experimental piece done in vine charcoal.
I am driving myself CRAZY. I keep drawing symbols instead of what I see! >.<
I'm starting to think that the problem isn't technical skill - I've drawn harder things before! - so much as a loss of focus. I can't tell why my concentration has slipped, but it's really showing in my artwork. I guess I'll have to sleep on it...
Thanks for the advice! Maybe that's it? It's easy for me to forget just how much I've been drawing lately, and that's coming off of a multi-year drought. Pretty much everything that hasn't been work-related has been drawing-related. Maybe I'll take a day off?
I won't decide tonight, though. I'll wait until the morning.
A tiny study for a larger project: a man's shirt colors in strong sunlight.
Yeah, I think I'll end this daily drawing-from-life thing. I would say "take a break," but I don't want the loose ends.
For now, I'm confident that I can pull off accurate drawings when my concentration is good. (Apparently there's some health stuff that's impairing it atm. It should be easy to fix.) I have a larger store of mental images; I draw a wider array of subjects with more confidence; and I know how to use real-life references for my drawings. But most importantly, I feel like I've done what I need to do. It's time to see where my next whim takes me!
(But don't be surprised if I upload images from time to time! I'm not totally leaving CA forever; I'm just ending a goal that, in my heart, has already ended. )
I really think it was. As soon as I got the pressure off my back, I was rewarded with 8 good ideas for pictures plus the inspiration/motivation to tackle a large abandoned project! Theeeere's my sign. XD
noooooooo-ooo-oh!! I'm gonna miss the constant updates but I can't fault ya. From the last post it seems like stepping back a little has helped. one of my favorite quotes is "go back a little to leap further", i think that might apply a bit here
Hell Furiana these latest life drawings really show how much you've been developing. Some of those gestures are tops. Personally I would only draw from life about 30min a day, if even that. But it is the best for realizing where your going wrong and finding new ways to get around things. Can understand its hard to focus sometimes but maybe you just need to tone it down a bit and it might not feel like so much of a chore.
Whats this project of yours anyway if you don't mind sharing?
Hi there so you are really into life drawing I should
do that too, just drawing random things. I like your
studies I wasn't good at this stuff but I know it helps
these are the basics,....
Dammit still don't like to draw it....
Wow, impressive progress! Keep it up!

great improvement since I was last here! good that you are doing so much life stuff, but don't forget the fun doodles too.
I am the opposite of you. I hate life stuff and spend too much time on doodling.

Holy cow, you're still around? Yes, it lives! Probably not for long -- I do tend to come and go, no matter where I am -- but it lives for now.
That water looks amazing especially for acrylics, i wanted to take up painting soon too, once i get some digital color theory down pat hehe
