Hey folks. I've still been drawing all this time. I ordered the Asaro Head sculpture and in the meantime did a study from a digital version in Zbrush:
It's definitely going to get better when I get the real thing. I also picked up one of those wood manikins but remembered at the last minute that they kind of suck ass. Even then, I tried doing some little poses with it and found it really helpful in terms of perspective and form, so it's not totally useless.
Those Art Buck gray ones apparently are said to be better, but I liked how the wooden one stuck to simple shapes without the uncanny valley face or Ken doll details. I might keep the wooden one around if I can find one that doesn't have its ass impaled on a rod with no range of motion whatsoever in the hips.
Model drawing sessions are great, but only two days a week. I can't wait to get back to Gnomon in the spring. I'm thinking of taking the sculpture class so one day I'll be able to make my own little armatures like Vilppu describes. Ecorche is really cool too.
