Hey, sorry to hear you're feeling frustrated with your figures.
While your drive to do more studies is admirable, I don't think it's a good idea to push your self too hard. In my experience, when I'm frustrated with something in my art, the more I try to force it out the worse things things feel and the more frustrated I get, it's just a vicious cycle.
So my advice is to maybe take a one-day break from figures. Do some still lifes, or studies of animals, try your hand at abstraction, or mess around with a medium you don't usually use. Wait for the feelings of frustration to fade and get back to it when you're fresh.
Of course, that's just what I'd do. Do whatever you think will help. Good luck!
I like your studies nontheless, but I can relate to your feelings. I'm going through something similar as well right now.
Maybe looking into the books of Loomis, Hogarth or any of the others might be of some help. And I agree with Clur, don't push yourself too hard. Just leave the figures be for a while, draw something totally different and go back to them later. That's what I'm doing and it usually works quite well.
Anyway, don't give up and keep on drawing whatever you like.
'Never say die' is your motto.
I like that. Much more confident lines
in the last leg drawings. Your consistency
is paying off, and you should be proud.
This is the last post on this page,
and I am breaking you open a new start.
Let the next update be something special....
Ah, you lot are too kind.
Well, I'll be finally going home again tommorow. You won't hear from me for a while since I'll be on the boat, but I'll definitely get a lot of drawing done.
Now, onto replies!
Lohes: Hey, mate! Been watching you progress on your sketchbook, impressive stuff. Cheers
Darius: Thank you! I really ought to do more of them. xD
Clur: Ah, you definitely have a point. Though I've found it impossible to take breaks when I find a problem like that. Usually I can't stop myself, on the bright side I tend to draw through the frustration by the end of it aha.
Aragah: Cheers, mate and rest assured, I will do.
Zeich: Ah, figures, figures. I really can't stop myself drawing them. Frustration or not. I do happen to have Loomis and hogarth books though. Been revisiting Loomis since I've been getting the proportion crits. Hopefully I can push through it and get a little better.
Plissken: Can't die yet when I have so much improving to do. Saddly, comrade, this post is not too breathtaking but each picture's getting me closer to somewhere I'd like to be.
Hey thanks for posting in my sketchbook (:
I'd been following your sketchbook for a while but didn't have the courage to post
I really like the way you do faces, in that they're not perfect but they're always... interesting, I dunno if you know what I mean.
I also like your watercolours I always get impatient and don't leave things to dry enough before working on them more.
I'm curious as to how old you are? But It's okay if you don't want to say (:
Anyway, all the advice I really have to offer is to keep doing what you're doing XD it seems to be working.
Hey, it's allright. xD I've been 18 since late July. Shame I can't use age as an excuse for my faults anymore.
And I tend to do the same things with watercolour, but if you work on multiple ones at the same time it's easier to avoid that problem. Also; don't feel afraid to comment. The only thing extraudinary about me is my post rate ;P
I like your style, I hope to be able to have work that's as expressive as yours someday.
Hey-hi, thanks for stopping by, I can see that a lot of interesting stuff are happening here and it's easy to see the improvements through the pages, from the old one to the new. I may also say that the watercolour studies are really good!
So keep it up with the good work, and also...I'll be back. : P
Hey, fellers. Not much to give you other than two non-reffs (the guy with the cat isn't my character and I accidentally made him a midget) and a study of a guy that looks like voldormort with a sixpack.
Bruce: Ah, cheers mate! Proportions bloody hard to get the hang of but I'll keep working at it.
Plissken: Cowboy? Cowboy? You know what, I'll let you have that. xD
Hem: Oh goodness. Didn't expect flattery like that. I'm sure if you work at it you'll be MUCH better than these posts.
Wolfscent: Cheers, mate! I'll keep trying.
The group scene drawing is very intense. I see that the
girl has some nasty intentions, by trying to grab his
friends Johnson behind her. The friend is also surprised
cause he is not sure about her intentions. Will she be
gentle or rough with him? It is all a mystery. However,
I can see in the girls eyes, that she is not new to pain and
she likes it rough. As a matter of fact, everyone is afraid of
her on that drawing, except the first guy, who is still unaware
of the danger that he is in. The girl clearly means danger, and
I like that she has a pretty firm and sharp left breast, but I do
not like that her right breast looks non existent.
The guy with the cat is sad and bored because no one
wants to play with him. The word got through that he
does not change his underwear on a regular basis.
But the cat does not really care about that.
Zeich: Oh yeah, I knew the perspective would be off in general since I've only read about perspective once. I had no chance standing a character, non reffed, in a non reffed room without something messing up. xD
Plissken: Plissken, oh plissken, the Doctor is a very cleanly man. He would surely weep if he heard those accusations!
And Oh god. Your take on that picture with Thain and Aisling. THAIN IS THE ONLY ONE WHO WOULD WANT THAT ATTENTION. I'm afraid she is about as sexual as a potato, though. Really- absalutely no interest what so ever.
I'm almost embarrsed to do this next post, everything is rife with proportion issues, well, of course, that is no surprise with my stuff- but they're WORSE than usual in this aspect. WORSE, I TELL YOU. I'll get into the studies as soon as I finish this.
Oh, oh, check out the comments on the Casagranda pic. http://snoodledoodle.deviantart.com/...ment-256374222 The awkward moment trying to explain the person you've drawn is unhappy because they can't get it up. Marvelous.
Worst part is, I was actually looking at reff when I was drawing Casagranda, trying to fix my already bad understanding of torsos/arms and I still bawked it up.
Well the guy on the second pic surely has some flaws here and there but I draw arms way worse. I kinda like his right arm even that it seems to be a bit short on the part where it's not the hand... I'm on the verge of starting serious arm studies and you pushed me a little bit more. Thanks.
The two on the watercolor painting has really interesting expressions, I expect Plissken to imagine a really complicated relationship between them with every kind of nasty intentions. What are they doing? They surely don't care much about personal space They looks like a high and mighty one with a servant who is a bit more pervert than she should be but she knows she oh so can get away with it.
great penmanship, liking a lot of your studies, you make me see i got a shit load of catching up to do!!!

i dont really see proportion issues, just a nice Naidy style.
they all have dark noses, which instantly identifies them as yours.
its like they all have slightly runny noses, which is appeaing.
i want to bump this one so people on this page see it. it is my favourite.
come on people give her your stars.

Just chucking some quick Self portraits on here. Bit out of practice doing them but you lot could probably tell that. xD
shiNIN: I'm glad you said that about the arm, I really didn't notice I'd made it short. I'd elongated the torso, you see. Forgot to lengthen the arms too. Oops xD
Oh, the painting is of Ayrdune's clan leader, Shayle, and her half sister Abuya. They certainly are close, but it's more one sided. Shayle is used to everyone fussing on her and she just pretty much sits there and tollerates it. lol
Bruce: Yes, if your stuff is anything to go by I could definitely do by investing more time in my studies! HOW DO I BUILD PATIENCE, THOUGH? HOWOWOW? ;A;
Adrian: Och, thank you for the kind words! I'm sure you could improve at a much faster rate than me if you put the effort in. Took me too damned long to start taking to my studies.
Kendall: Nooo! Nononono! I can't have more stars! I feel already bad for it looking like I'm a 4 star thread when there are people more deserving of that rating ohgod I don't want to be lowering CA's standards.
VOTE ME THREES, EVERYONE! PLEASE. ;A;
Ah, that said, seeing that old thing again makes me want to do more of them. They're really quick to do. Just scribble, paint, scribble again. xD
Cheers, mate! I thought I may aswell get back into them since it might help me with necks/faces xD
This self portrait's not looking too good but it's my first time with watercolour pencils in probably a year. I'm waiting till it dries then I'll fix it up a wee bit.

Managed to spill tea on some stuff I was working on today so here are yesterday's doodles to make up for it.
Think I'm going to go back to seriously studying head planes because I haven't the slightest idea how Thain's bloody face works.
Very nice stuff as usual. I think one thing to consider when studying the head is how far back the cranium goes. I'm sure there's room for variety in that area, but I think you're pushing that margin a bit far. The head of the girl with the tail appears to be almost twice as deep as the guy with elfish ears. When you have the two standing next to each other, it stands out as a mistake, like you accidentally made one head really long and the other really wide. But when I went back through the other drawings of these characters, I realized that it was a design choice, something that you're doing consistently and on purpose. I dunno, just something to think about I guess. Carry on!
Love this newest update and Aisling's face~~ It's sooooo crazy lookin'!
