ROUND #197 :: GestapoDESCRIPTION
WWII. Can you transfer yourself into those times and feel the atmosphere of war? Not just anybody could become a member of secret Nazi police. Intelligence, shrewdness, determination, ruthlessness are some of features that he must have had. Who could doom people to death and stifle their own conscience?
Close your eyes, take a deep breath to concentrate your mind. Your task is to reinterpret the theme while keeping the atmosphere and function of gestapo. I do not limit anyone to realistic WWII times. Post-apocalyptic, steampunk and others are allowed. Choose any stylization you prefer the most, but preserve the mood.
Situation. To make things difficult, imagine what animal would most fit his character (again, not necessarily real) and include it in design as his assistance. Personally I would prefer not in-action shots as it is too obvious. Try to show emotions and suspense.
Thanks to artozi for the topic this week!

Oh I hope I finish this one!
I am officially addicted to CHOW
WHY!!!! WHY does this have to be right in the middle of my move???? all my art stuff is packed :shakes fist:
Ohh, a controversial but interesting topic! I'm in.
This is mine so far... I want him and bird to be similar in the face, as in, the faces are coverd. Just as his falcon is to him a tool for hunting so he is a tool for the Fuhrer...
GOLDILOCKZ: i like yours... He even has a semi snake like look to him.... he actually kind of reminds of that dude in, Inglorious Bastards
Not a 100% sure on what theme I'm going with but here is my gestapo girl. Her creature is a monkey.. they're fast and although they might look cute they can be vicious and cruel. Think Mrs Coulter and the golden monkey from Northern Lights.
Anywho, not sure on the cane (It was meant to be 'Ello 'Ello but looks more musical theatre) and I know that the hands are a mess but it gives the idea.
EDIT: Face detail.....

Nice script, took a while for my brain to start rolling but I vill too concurr.
not rly sure what animal im gonna go for but im gonna try either to get some webs in her dress orsome scales and teeth
wait is the animal suppose to be an assistant? cos in that case maybe i shouldnt pick a fish:/
edit: ye fish it is
i only regret that i see gestapo as stiff and with no sence of humor
gonna be hard to make the end result seemd dynamic with my history off stiffness in my pics:/
Naphtali I rly like ur idea but my only consern is there are a bit too many swarsticas, maybe it just me but its almost as it makes the swarsticas less significant if they are too many, i would suggest too google some other nazi symbols and replace some of them

Last night I sat here staring at my screen trying to come up with something, but today I think I got it, AND it will have a political point that I agree with. Hope I can force myself to draw though, I've been in the biggest artistic rut of my life....maybe its this job, or this town, or just me. But I need to get on a roll again.
Not going to post every two seconds.... but i had to post my Nazi monkey
@Emberry: Mrs Coulter and her Daemon from His Dark Materials? ;-)
(now the companion animal indeed reminds me of Daemons and of the crazy station the villains had in His Dark Materials)
Gathered ref's for feeling and just some initial concept, read some background and then decided to move away from actual gustapo into current themes..
Oren90 I'm intrigued by the creature in your sketch. The first thing that comes to mind is a hippo but the feet are too small... whatever it is it looks like it's going to be awesome.
emberry actually it's a prehistoric animal called Entelodont also hell pig you can read about here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entelodont it's pretty much the first animal that came to my mind after seeing all the other animals that were already picked
OK, that's all I have for tonite. Sweet dreams.
fun fun. current idea is the nazis being overtaken / possessed by an evil alien race who use them to take over the world during WW2. they give them all kinds of powers and weapons to help, but in return they become mindless and zombie-like, but still retain intelligence. but i haven't figured that out yet. thinking of pet aliens or something.

Here I go again, working on something I will most likely not finish. But damn, with topics like this...I`ll sleep when I`m dead
I too can`t shake off Mme Coulter, so I`m going in that direction. Sort of. Will re-design the "uniform", pick some colors and mess around. As for the animal, there was only 1 option. A cockroach. Strong, resilient, highly adaptive. She`ll wear it with a golden chain and gems, like a pin of some sorts. Meh.
next up - anatomy `n`stuff. Fun...
Naphtali I agree with Kisou, there are an aweful lot of swarsticas in the design. The concept is awesome and the most original so far, it seems a shame to spoil it by going OTT on the Nazi Symbols. Again, Kisou is right, less is more.
Kisou Yay you went with the fish! I know how you feel about trying to make a character dynamic when you're used to a more regimented style, but that's what this contest is all about, pushing us to test and expand our capabilities. I myself struggle with giving my characters a personality, which I'm hoping to address here.
DazDaryl Keep an eye on what Aly Fell mentioned about re-interpreting the idea of the Gestapo. You have a very nice style and it would be cool to see how the image with the three armed guy would turn out. Multiple limbs are always fun ^_^
rumpenstiltzkin Nice sketches! Kinda remind me of the stuff by this guy: http://jisuk.deviantart.com/
Dumpling Awesome concept and Alien Nazis? THe only way to beat that would be if they were ZOMBIE Alien Nazis
Working on my girl bit by bit. Spent all afternoon playing with her eyes and I'm still not 100% convinced I like the hair style. I need a name for my Nazi Monkey....
EDIT: Tempted to go in an entirely different direction..... As for story. Basically it's an alternate universe where experimentation with supernatural entities was successful and the perfect Nazi assassin was born... the Vampire: The beautiful stone cold killer. No Mercy. No Regret.

I just love where it is going! I would love to encourage everybody who attempt in this CHOW to think out of the box freely. No limits. My intentions were to give you opportunity to design a member of secret nazi police, but what if the world developed in completely different way? What if the robots were nazi, or frogs, or very primitive civilization or aliens, or people but with different technology. I want you to go wild, but still bearing in mind the original source of inspiration, which is gestapo. Gestapo uniform has already been designed, why repeat it in CHOW?
Actually here is a proposition: What works for me is thinking from general to detail through questions I ask myself. A coherent story in your mind will influence your design strongly. Design is a story itself.
