If you're here to improve... I'm here to slit my wrists! Excellent works.
Is that the smell of asses getting roasted by talent?
Why yes..I do believe it is.
Welcome Alex, really glad to see you here - this is *the* place to improve and youll certainly contribute.
We all need to improve but I would ask yourself how you can integrate what you do with what you want to do, because your style is clean, bold, direct and instantly recognizable in itself - thats over half the battle right there.
Personally I think you would feel as if you were improving if you could find the time to work on some personal stuff and experiment a bit; maybe spread out a little and not have to operate and produce at breakneck commercial schedules.
Easier said than done however - bills to pay and all that nonsense.
Id be lying if I said I had the time for that myself.
Looking forward to seeing you around buddy - take care.
these are really great man! super dynamic and well executed! =D
@Cryptcrawler: Thanks again Brad. I really appreciate all your support. And your advice is definitely food for thought. It's so hard to contemplate doing work for myself as I've always done it commercially for others, but it definitely bears serious consideration. If I really want to improve then I'll have to start doing things outside my comfort zone.
I love your works since deviantart.
More Marvel covers...
Everyone draws differently, and you definitely have skill. For me, the scenes are a little too polished, which gives them a sort of plastic, very obviously digital look. The background and foreground are also all in focus on some of the scenes, which tends to flatten it out.
"At least I'm not boring!" "Yes you are. And you're completely ordinary. And you know it."
Damnnn alex, i rememebr your lines inked, but this is a huge leap beyond, love the work on galactus, pretty awesome.
There are no such things as bad art, just tight deadlines.
Lovely stuff. Keep 'em coming.
This is cool stuff, I'm looking forward to seeing more-good luck as you continue journey.
really nice work and composition.!!
@Titan: Thanks man! From the comic's story line, Gambit on this cover is actually from the future so he's about in his mid 40's.
@DanHenk: Well, I've had a very polished and clean style ever since I've been in comics so that's likely to stay with me to some degree. But I'm certainly working on loosening up and achieving a more organic look.
@Elsevilla: Thanks! I'd like to incorporate my inks into my work but I haven't yet figured out the best way to do that yet. I have some ideas though.
All excellent, man! I have many of those comics and even my wife remarked the other evening (specifically on the Magus one that you have in this thread), that "Whoever does the Guardians of the Galaxy covers is fucking awesome".
She reads comics, but pretty much only trades and only when I throw them under her nose, so you managed to catch the eye of someone casual and that is a great cover when you can do that.
Looking forward to seeing future works!
I love all of them except for that IronMan cover and the lightning bolt on ms marvel doesn't seem to conform to her chest much (maybe it wasn't supposed to?)... Really great skills though otherwise Keep posting!
Here's my awesome, pro website.
Character designer/Illustrator looking for studio work!
Dusty - Thanks man! And tell your wife thanks as well. In my book, that's the highest compliment a cover artist can be paid.
Azuma - Thanks! Yeah, I meant for the lightning bolt to be more of a flat graphic design element rather than something that super-accurately contours her body.
Here's the cover to my 2009 convention sketchbook. Another Psylocke piece:
You're great! You have your own style which is very recognizable and I like it very much!
Alex - love your work, I know it since your time at wildstorm, I was a fan of image when it started
Could you post what brushes you use? I love the effect you give to costumes...
