Love your robots! That samurai mecha is awesome.
As for crits... try to use some more saturated colours when painting shadows on skintones? Or blues/purples to avoid the skin looking too sallow. Hope you post more soon
anivy: Thanks so much! more cool robots on the way. And yea i need to work some more tones into skin, into most of my work actually...

awesome hard work, i really like your landscapes! you handle the orizon and composition really well! as a recommendation you could work on your gestures i think that is going to help you improve your drawing skills and let you put more of that design genius i see shine come out, also a strong and energetin gesture drawing retains a part of its energy even after all the rendering and structure you draw on top.
well those are my two cents you are on the right track! and do have talent you just have to polish it like crazy! keep on posting! and good luck
lionheartGFX: Cheers, thank you very much! yea I'm a huge fan a gestural drawing but it can be hard I find it hard to maintain the gesture after I've gone back over the top, but I'm working on it!
Zbrush doodle from a sphere, just having some fun

Our studio worked on concept design for - as well as building in 3d - all the backgrounds and props.
youve got some good work in here man, I see you use a lot of zbrush, reminds me i gotta learn that program better, I have it , but lately I've been focusing more on just digital painting and all that. your getting a lot better at your rendering and I really like your loose quick sketches, they have a nice style to them.keep it up man, youve improved a whole lot in here.

blazingdimensions: thanks man it means a lot. Yea I'm loving zbrush as its so quick, i need to do some more traditional(Digital) work.
Revidescent: thanks man! I have alot of trouble with colour, and don't really know how to proceed in that regard. I'm just looking at a lot of other painting and photos and trying to emulate their use of colour
I'm on holiday! Here is a zbrush doodle and a self portrait as i haven't done one of those in a while

Timelapse of alien:
Its been way to long. I plan on updating this sketchbook again. I'll post an update with what I'm up to now days in the next day or two.
Its good to be back!
Combining Zbrush with your 2D paintings is a great deal, cause you
are understanding of shapes and values has increased largely in the last
year. Grey-scale is a good way to go, you are building a strong foundation
here. Your characters are looking cool, I especially like that one in the
post #202. Building up your subject library, by drawing a lot from
life and photo references will make you be able to create even more
original creatures and characters. I guess that there is nothing else
left, except that you keep on going like this, draw and paint more
and never stop.
LtPlissken: Thank you for the kind words and advise. To me Zbrush has been a great help and a hindrence. It has greatly improved the quality of my work and my understanding of forms, but its also moved me away from rendering things properly myself. I find myself using it to much, I want to get back to a stong 2D foundation
My new Plan
Since i left school I did about a year of advertising, then for the last 18 months I've worked at Karactaz Animation. I worked mainly on Design and asset building for 'Hulk and the Agents of SMASH' and 'Marvel Avengers assemble'. I also worked on a number of other unannounced projects, tests and short films. My last gig before I left was modeling and sculpting the high res hero characters for the upcoming Thunder Birds reboot happening at Pukeko.
As much as I loved my job Its never really been what I wanted to do. I enjoy 3D and what it offers but my passion has always been 2D design and illustration, something I've never really had the time to devote my energy's towards since I left school.
With the year coming to a close I decided It was time to make this happen. I've left my job at Karactaz with the goal of up-skilling myself for 2D work. For the rest of the year I'll be teaching myself at home, starting again from the very basics and grinding it out. I've made a schedule for myself that I'll try and stick too and post my progress here. If anyone has done this or has any idea's how to maximise time and effort hit me up!
Next year I'm going back to full time study, the original plan was to go to the Gnomon school in the US for a year but that plan has fallen through. I'm in the process of deciding how and where to study next year. Its a little scary just quiting work but his is something I've wanted to do for a long time, hopefully it will start me in the direction i want to go.
I'll be going back to the basics, trying to step away from using Zbrush and MODO/Maya and rendering things myself both traditionaly and digitaly.
As I've drawn this last week I've been listening to the Harry Potter audio books, so obviously I had to do my own version of Voldermort, Behold!
And this is a brilliant cover;
