Toldja I do studies... and yes, I should do more and no, this isn't all of them and yes, since I can technically photo all my natural media work, I technically have no excuse not to post them and yes, I'm too lazy to photo, upload and convert every study I do and yes, I would rather keep painting than do so
Zaelzar, forgive me for screen-grabbing your sketch from tinychat.com/chillstream and turning it to the above disgrace...
funfunfun... looks better as a screen snapshot than as the original jpeg... still a wip... colors and shapes fun...
sink demons... inktense water solubles by derwent
sketch for a full size painting
early sketch from an old illustration commission. the final illustration looks nothing like this... I may use it for something else like a full-scale illustration...
good stuff patrick
Looking through this, I realize that
A) I'm metal, my sketchbook is more revealing of that fact, than is my website, I need to stop trying to conform with what I considered marketable (fantasy, or at least a broad range, encompassing a wider spectrum of viewers.)
You know what? talking to a professor at NYAA the other day about the art market - he told me that illustration jobs are disapearing, going to graphic designers instead. Photoshop allows people to just photo-montage images for venues that were former staples of the market, such as movie posters, album art, romance novels, etc...
BUT, the one type of album art which still relies mainly on paintings is: dum-dum-DUM!!!! METAL!!!! ^m^
I still like all kinds of art, and of course, any kind of art job would be cool, but I just saw this posting in the jobs section - "metal band seeks giger-influenced album art" - all the replies had decent portfolios that would take a stretch of the imagination to believe that job was particularly suited towards them. Then I looked at my own website and saw - Barf!!! a bunch of almost-finished, older pieces with a few more recent good-looking stuff and all the best stuff was horror or metal-oriented. Not to pigeonhole myself as macabre-only, but I've got to narrow my focus to what I'm really all about, to get inspired to work harder. Enough of this trying to have more stuff that suits what people are looking for, I'll do my thing until the people who are looking for it come my way.
B) I need to update my shit more.
Some more of these little sketches I've been tooling with... I haven't been posting on FB or my website because everything feels unfinished... duh, perfect CA sketchbook material... I need to post here more, (why does that give me deja' vu?) I have a lot more where this came from...
Oops, the last image is older, thought it was a different file... I do a lot of Unicorn girls, it seems...
