I found this old thing...put it in one of my folders, and forgot about it unintentionally. Now I think I'll add that to the 'list of things to do' *I gotta to learn to stop forgetting about stuff...also, WHY!?! do I feel so afraid of Photoshop...?*. Was my first time trying to do silhouette using just black and white.
Got a lot of shit on THAT 'List' to do, better get to it before I do anything else. Otherwise I'm gonna forget about it then, come back and feel lazy when I realize it's not posted here.
You have a lot of good studies going on here Nahkon. I see great improvement from the beginning to where you are at now. Your line control has definitely improved.
It looks like you are having the same issues with your gestural drawings as I me...it's a pain in the ass huh?! How long are you drawing each pose for? I am finding that 30 sec was WAY too fast for me so I upped it to a couple minutes and it was vastly easier. When we beginners are just starting out, I think we need to have a little more time for that connection between our hand and our brain to be accurately made.
I am really liking your progress and exploration. I can totally see the evolution of your line changing as well . Keep the development up, I am looking forward to seeing more.
My Website I am available for work
@ Syle: When I go out a draw people, I usually try and get the lines down quickly; if the person is moving, if their stationary I take as much time as needed. Sometimes to a good success and sometimes not, because trying to be non-conspicuous while drawing someone and then realizing they know what your doing...it kinda throws me off. Yes! either way, I still having issues with gestures and it is a pain in the ass!
I also, use posemaniacs.com which I haven't used in a while. I use the 30 second timer; may up that too, (probably gonna try some other things too).
The sketchbook pages with the black and white abstract stuff, was a Farvus inspired composition studies...I gave it a try. (sorry about the marker bleeds).
Thank You eeedward, GuruGaia, and Syle for the comments/encouragements...I will work harder!
The Quest continues!

Right on, go get em' Nak For every page of posemaniacs gestures you post in your next update, I will double it! The challenge has been laid down! (all in good fun of course )
I've been using the new pixelovely tool. I stopped using Posemaniacs a Looooong time ago because I couldn't deal with the contorted poses and camera angles. Alternate to pixelovely is just going to the source and using the Deviant Art stock photo slide show. However, pixelovely seems to sort through the pictures - there's alot of junk on Deviant Art.
@Syle: I accept your challenge! IT'S AWN!!
I do suggest we heed karmiclychee's advice and not only use posemaniacs.com but the pixelovely tool as well, since yes posemaniacs does have the REALLY odd poses and camera angles.
Various things here. Some warm-ups I did this morning and stuff from Yoitisi Island Training Ground.
Keep up the studies from observation
have a good one
sketchbook updated October 6th
Continuing working on my 'Ice Cavern', just trying to make form, put colors down and lighting (MUCH later), also, ice is pain!...this is hard...but fun!!
Of course, I didn't really use ref. when I started out (line-work) so I guess it's kinda the price I pay for not planning out the image.
Gonna do some silhouette studies as well.
"be not afeared of the fat brush"
Use a larger brush when you're putting down your flats - especially when you're putting down your flats. Visible brush strokes are extremely distracting
Well, I guess I need to go back to doing more gesture drawing as I took a few days off and it didn't bode well for me. So, back to basics again. I cringe when I think of posting these gestures...BUT gonna bite my tongue and post it, otherwise, they will eat at me.
Also, going to start using Hogarth (haven't used in a while)...in conjunction with other books and see where it takes me.
This should be fun!

Nice! It looks like I have about 10 gesture pages to do?!
Holy crap, that's a lot. Thanks for pumping some out Nakhon. Your SB is looking great!
While looking through a sketchbook that I was going to use, just to fill it up. I realized that the drawings and stuff in there were never put on here. In coincidence I happen to find another sketchbook that was not put on here either (nor was it filled). Some of the pages in the latter sketchbook, have been erased that are going to be used for new stuff.
So I'm putting these up to make myself feel better...and not feel like I have boat loads of stuff going to waste.
This is the LAST TIME! I will be inconsistent with my sketchbooks...as it becomes a pain in the ass to keep track! *Wow! it took me this long to realize this...sigh* Better to fill one up completely before starting a new one (this is going on my New Year's Resolution)

I tried using Posemaniacs a few times, unsuccessfully. I can't seem to grasp gestures yet.
Still trying to work on the Ice Cavern.
Lychee: Thank you for your advice on using a big brush, it did help. I noticed that some places are now a little more solid (because of laying down flats) then before, and work a little more easily.
Anyway, Can still see some distracting/unsure lines, so its still got a long way to go!!! Plus, gotta get more stuff going...LET'S RAWK!
Here are two master studies that I did with graphite using Maxfield Parrish; at least I hope he's dead enough to be a master, as reference.
The shading sucks I know and I need to push values more; since this is my first time doing master studies. C&C would be appreciated. Sorry for the bad lighting...camera not so good either.
More to come.
hey rabbit :3
i think you've made a good start with your sketchbook. I think you need to keep practicising hard and keep drawing before you can see significant improvements but if you keep the enthusiasm up you wont have a problem, also i reckon i can give you some pointers on the ice cavern (and im impressed you're developing one piece like that) - so remind me on skype tonight.
keep going bud :3

Studies and Bones.
If I can learn to stay up and work and not go to sleep...that would be great. >_<
MUST work a little faster. More coming.
Ugh...haven't really had a good day. But in any case, here's what I did manage to do before I head to bed.
First two are from yesterday.
Last two are from tonight...these gestures aren't that decent and running a 30 second timer doesn't help when your not in a good mood.
Sorry for the crappy quality...need to try a new camera.
I really should get myself a china marker when I do gesture drawing...to free up my arm.
In a much better mood today then yesterday (not 100% happy-go-lucky but, better than it was). Just got home from running errands. Here's a page of gesture drawings; a little better than yesterday. Should probably do tons more observation drawings and use the 'Line of action' more.

Do you ever break the body down into simple shapes to set up your drawing? There's not a lot of depth/volume to these gestures you've been working on, I find. I realize there is no/very little shading on them, but even with line, you can imply things curving around behind a form and so on. Try breaking the masses down into simple shapes like eggs and boxes. It's not dead simple, but you might find the page gets a little deeper when you do.
Yeah, I do and I really need to get back into that habit of using shapes and stuff when doing gestures. This habit is a rather bad one (the gestures you saw on the previous page) so I'm trying to break it.
Thanks for the tip Tulo. So, here we go again. *grabs 18x24 newsprint*
These aren't that great either but it's a start since I've not been doing this for a while. Heading to bed for now...have to get up early tomorrow. >_<

These are various things. Most are studies from KChen's demos. Trying to understand the head.
There is one head study (last upload) that had a painted head that I did in Photoshop, trying to see if I did the head correctly; trying to train the hand to follow the eyes.
MUST try harder. *need to put some still life's in here*
EDIT: These are actually from yesterday to midnight (dusk) so...more coming today.
EDIT II: New stuff...#5 onward
EDIT III: Last bit before I hit the sack. B-man.

Here's head studies with lip studies...need to work on Planes of the Head, Values, Form, and such.
Plus, still need to do 'Still Lifes' and various doodads. Gonna hit sack for now. More to come.
