Hi all... I'm Mike from the US. I've been dreaming and drawing since middle school and I've been on CA for some time now... thought I should get around to posting a sketchbook to showcase my art for thoughts, comments, and whatnot.
I'm trying to get into the industry right now, either as a concept artist or a 3D modeler. I'm going to start taking courses for the latter, but I wonder if I have what it takes for the former?

very nice looking mecha in the first image. Looks like something from appleseed. did you use any references?
No references. The designs are 100% original.
ok, disregarding the anime piece, how do you draw mechs like that????
Doctors heal you, Artists immortalize you.
"Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach" - bullshit.
The usual staples for anatomy:
These mechs of yours are very Gundam Wing, and at the same time they look out of this world. They kinda remind me of the Leo class used by OZ and the Alliance.
I suggest that your flood this place with the rest of your work, especially the Homeworld fan art.
Hey, your standing on my terrestrial planet!
Been on a robot-drawing binge recently for a novel I'm writing for the National Novel Writing Month. Most of it is just a perspective view without any elaboration on the details. Still, maybe someday when I get good at a 3D program I can make these into actual models..
Very cool stuff Mike, I like the clean designs. Here is a link I gave out on another sketchbook Makoto Kobayashi, a lot of it is actual plastic/resin modeling but quite well known. You'll like the AS Wars stuff. Really influenced me. I hope it gives you some cool ideas to add to your own works.

Kobayashi is an influence of mine actually. Were this a perfect world I'd also be doing miniatures like he does. Sadly, minis are not as easy to make as they used to be since the hobby has mostly died out.
Still... I think I can thank him and GenocidalPenguin (on Deviant art) for getting me into weird mecha designs and steering me away from the 'Gundam Stereotype' found whenever super robots are mentioned...
Nice stuff man. I like your bot designs, but I feel like they're all too similar. Their leg and pelvis design feels a little too overused, try and mix it up a bit and pump out some other ideas. Maybe try some dynamic positions too so they're not all facing the same direction. Keep working man and gl with 3d stuff.
Hey man, how are things? I remember your stuff from the AFF mod-- I think you've improved a great deal. This is some really solid tech you've got going, good work.
I dig those mechs man really cool!
