some stuff from my illustration classes
For this one we had to pick a historical figure and a contemporary product and make a 2 page spread advertisement. I chose Howard Hughes and Garmin
This is a video game cover for Forgotten Worlds (Lost Worlds in Japan...fit my design better). Teacher thought it was a little too loose and the figures could have been posed better. I also got ripped on for the shitty helmet design on the left which would not be able to fit a human head and just looks bad. I like the simple blocky strokes but it probably would have looked a lot better if I thought out the designs a little more...they are pretty generic and lack any personality.
For my next assignment I'm going to be doing detailed character designs of these two, did the assignments kinda of backwards but w/e live and learn
These are a bunch of silhouettes for the two main characters in Lost Worlds. First set i felt was a little too light and simple, so for the second set i tried more bulky designs similar to unreal tournament designs. I did flesh one out from the first set but im not too crazy about it. I really wanna get the designs really solid before moving on to any posing or rendering
let me know if there are any that stand out for you
holy shit man wicked stuff, love your retro sci fi stuff.
thanks Jon and Klaus.
here is a fleshed out version of the first silhouette from the last batch, i think I'm gonna take this one to a finished version
some gestures and 20-30min studies, probably one of the best looking models I've ever had...my drawings don't quite do her justice but you'll have to take my word for it
Trying to work out some poses for my Lost World characters. I did a little experiment, the bottom one is done without reference and the top one is done with reference...the top came out better i think but i don't think the bottom one is too bad. I think for the unreferenced one i was thinking of too standard of a pose, the slight lean the top one has adds a lot of weight and believability to the character.
one more before bed

here is an update on the lost worlds character designs, a rendered front view of the first design. I'll add color once I get the back view done. I gotta have the front and back view of both designs done by Tuesday so I'm gonna try and get one view done a day.
and this is for a new assignment where we have to illustrate an inventor with his invention, so I'm doing an inventor with his landscape painting robot...just a rough sketch so far

My teacher didn't really like any of my sketches, he said they were too designy and thought just an environment would be fine. So this is what i worked on today, aside from color i think this is pretty close to finished and the final will probably be some variation of this, still have to e-mail my teacher to get his thoughts. I kinda like how its looking in black and white so i doubt ill do anything too crazy with color.
nice . paint bot looks good man. thanks for dropping by
amazing concepts thanks for dropping by my sb
Hey Howie, big thanks for visiting my sketchbook.
You got really good anatomy studies and lifedrawings going on, the last ones are superb. Maybe you can put in a bit of darker values in the shadows of the last one.

thanks Lord M
this is for a school assignment where we have to illustrate something from the short story "A Good Man is Hard to Find" by Flannery O'Connor. If you've read the story this is the scene after the family rolled in there car off the side of the road
Figures are definitely going to be a challenge but i think if do a good job on them this could be a strong image
and a figure i might be using for a future character design
