@OmertA: thank you Jamie c: ~ Yes it was quite a long vacation up in NY.. a little over a month I believe xD but it's good to be home
@andres333: thanks andres :3
okay so I did 1 page of head studies this morning.. (i know, i should be doing more) but it's too embarrassing to post haha xD i've realized how much i suck at drawing heads so that's another thing to concentrate on. anyway, here are 2 digitals ... *crap*
lots of errors :U
bravo!!! improved anatomy and values.Beautiful blocking of color/values
nice, i am glad you are doing great!!!! keep up the good work.Seems like you understand more in 3d now
@Bendragon: thanks ben! yeah i agree i think more highlights will make it 'pop' more.
@kingkostas: thanks king. just gotta exercise my studies more and more now.
a few from this morning and small progress on the DC study :U
@Twan: thank you twan. yes hogarth is a good resource for anatomy eh?
@MattGamer: no matt! you show up right as i'm uploading haha xD.. well here's an update for you~
okay some photo ref drawing i did and tried doing the 'multi-limb' but failed. also, a character from imagination(pretty lame design). some gestures as well :3
probably one of the best video game intros around.. :3
woo go go go draw draw draw! yes looks like you're inspired from New York! i'd like to visit there someday as well. ;] did you see a lot of odd people?
lovin the sketches! moar!!
ps. zone of enders was such a fun ps2 game! i miss it. ;]
@MattGamer: haha yes there were many odd balls in new york xD especially in central park. :3 and to be honest, i've never played any of the ZOE games haha xD just a big konami fan... ^-^d
yeeeaaaahhh... crappy digitals 3': no pencils today *sad face*
The amount you put into your sketches says alot about your motivation to learn the fundamentals. Great to see that as I too still need to work on this. Looking at your last post with your digitals, the shoulders on all three of your figures look off to me. Maybe the third figure was meant to be that way as it's more of a creature, but on the first two, the far shoulder seems to be over-exposed and not correctly aligned behind the pectoral. Besides that, this stuff is great, keep it up.
@vatteh: thank you for the mini crit vatteh! it helps and yes, on the 3rd digital i did that on purpose haha xD let's cover more of the fundamentals of drawing!
@Twan: HAHA xD thanks twan~ steroids is bad (._."
i should be doing more still life studies soon.. i'm clearly not rendering my materials right as you can see with the guy in armor
worked a bit more on the character from the first post of this page. xD not turning out the way i want it but yeaah... also some random 'speed' paint that took at least an hour (yes, that piece of sh*t took an hour HAHA) plus a pencil sketch :U
anyway my recent digitals show how much i've been slacking so i must kick it back up!! GGAAAAAAHHHHHHHH~
@krel: haha no problem krel. thanks though
saved this in png format but it's about 10MB bigger than the required size on CA. so the colors suffered a bit after saving it as jpg. no problem though, it's just more WIP on the DC study :3
very nice mate!!!keep the last digi up!!!
the previous digi sketched characters remind me those of danielC somehow, i guess thats very good and shows your improvement
keep it up!!!
tell me how much you liked sc2 when you play it!!
great sketching and exploring! don't be so hard on yourself! you're learning and the more you draw the faster you learn. just keep pickin that pencil up and do not dismay! go go go! :]
@MattGamer: thanks for the encouragement matt and yes sc2 is a great game. though i'm not too much of a hardcore starcraft fan.. i'm much more of a diablo player all in all the game is great so far.. campaign is awesome and really engaging ^-^
nom nom sketching and color practice :u
Hey man. I was gonna type a long thing about thing you could do with your sp to maybe help it a bit, but I figured it'd be easier to just do a paintover to show you. I know my paintover is crappy but hopefully gets the point across. The main thing I see that needs attention is edges and where to put hard edges and where to keep them soft. With most of the edges in the face, you really should go to the soft side. So in the hair, go soft, in the eye, in the lips and nose... Another thing you did was make a sort of outline around the eye which gives it a look like you wore eyeliner which is what I think is making it look a bit girlish. Try to really look at the reference and you'll see there's no dark line on the lower lid, it's actually a bit of a highlight. The darker part is on top. And again, keep it soft! And with the hair, don't be afraid to add some personality to it. Here's where you can really be less accurate and more free so take advantage of that. Overall it's looking good though. Once you get the edge thing down you'll notice a big jump in your realism.
@Sycra: oooo... thanks a lot Sycra. yeah i have a big problem with edges but i'm trying to fix that now xD also i've noticed my portrait studies have become inconsistent because with my older portraits i used guidelines but i find it better to practice without those and i'm learning more that way as well xD will definitely try to keep my edgework in mind though!
pencillll~ yeah it's only one pencil sketch and not much thought went into it... that's how lazy i've been since sc2's release....... nnnooo!!!
You got lovely flowing lines. I´m sure that in a while it´ll evolve into some crazy pencilling style. Sycra pointed out quite a lot for your sp allready. I´d say you gotta start paying attention more to edges. You basically use the same sort of edge verywhere. Play with realy crisp and smooth ones and look at real life how to deal with em. You´re pieces basically need the cripser sharper one. You can even use the lasso tool to get some really sharp edges. They will certainly improve your work. Also when rendering be sure to introduce some wider range of values in your pencils and use some darker tones. Looking good though keepemcoming.
@jordyskateboardy: thanks a lot jordy~ took a gander at your latest character portraits and i see what it is that your digitals have that mine don't.. the use of proper edges in the right areas. :3 very helpful stuff. anyway, i still have quite a ways to go.. hopefully that will change with my inconsistency with studies xD
pencil sketch i started tonight.. :u damn the errors!
try doing more SP's from a mirror =)
