This will be my first post of art, I had held back for a while, lurking, not sure where I was taking my art (or where it was taking me). I do think however I will try to focus a good part of my efforts on concept art. So... here goes coming out of the closet with my sketchpad.
Art is a journey for me, there is no final destination, just stops on the way. I tend to not finish things, which I'm working on correcting. Wherever I am, if I have a writing utensil I will draw, be it in a sketchbook, on a napkin, or a leaf. (hense some of the crappy pieced together scans)
starting out with some sketches/doodles
A bunch of very quick hand sketches pieced together, most of these took under a minute. Its an exercise that helps me to stop getting too absorbed in one small part and learn the basic shapes and gestures.
another quick doodle of a hand
quick doodle & quick color
more hands, two where done on napkins, the others for a class.
a watercolor bird, and a couple gestures.
some more gestures
I'll post some more in a few minutes.
I'm not in school, I have gone in the past but had to stop for a bit(serious health issues blah blah). I seem to be missing a focus, seriously, I've majored in Electrical Engineering, Architecture, Art, Computer Animation... right now my main goal is to learn to focus on something and not stop in the middle of a portrait to work on math problems, or go cut dead limbs off trees in the back yard.
I REALLY enjoy concept art and its members, I admire the creativity, skill, and comradery (spelling?) here, the way everyone helps each other to improve and gives encouragement. I have so much room to improve and grow and I hope sharing with you guys will help that too.

self portrait, I'm not a little kid, I just play one on tv. (just kidding heh I do look like kid sometimes though)
some color thingies
been working a bit on illustration type things, I do it in painter, I do use a photo reference (usually taken by me or family members). Don't trace of course. I spent 6 hours on this while I was in an extremely uncomfortable state.
henri poulet, one of our cats.
I don't really have a decent website running at the moment, as I'm learning html etc, I'm fixing it up. But if you want to go look at it its here
I'll be updating as I can scan things in and finish digital stuff too.
Comments are welcome of course! I think right now I have so far to go and the list of things I really need to work on is large.

i love your style and how you rendered the hands/forearms, thin and bony, very interesting
keep it up. Id love to see some full body drawings
treeboy: thank you very much, come to think of it, i don't think I've ever drawn a full body in that style, I will take you up on that and give it a shot
nice work you got there.
you havea very cartoonish way of drawing hands that i've seen so far, but have the talent for realistic as well.
tahts a rare talent in my book.
can't wait to see more
I my girlfriend & my book of sketches
great sketchbook, you've made a good start to your site too.
I agree with everyone else in this thread: Great Sketchbook!
Great hand sketches, its nice to see you learnt how to draw them entirely in proportion before moving on to your unique style. And i adore that seagull/bird image.
Keep it up :chug:
hey great lineart! love ur sketches!
i'm lookin' forward to see more of this
Great hands! And i love the color pieces too!
Power is nothing without intelligence.
wow thank you guys very very much for the compliments!
I hope to get another post of sketches up before I leave for a trip tomorrow, and I should sketch a lot on the trip too I hope
Legacy, Deadpepper, Erik: Thank you very much, I probably spend too much time on hands and not the other body parts, one of my goals is to be comfortable at least with the entire body to be able to relax more and draw it exaggerated. I'll be working on it.
Jester thank you and I hope to keep updating on a regular basis and not fall it the slacker oblivion I once was.
Josef K well thank you very much, line art is an extremely lacking area for me, I've been trying to work on it since I've seen the great line art by artists here.
-The Swift: Thanks! I started to try and use dreamweaver the other day for the site and realized I was enjoying learning the code too much to do that. So even if its a bit slower, it will be coming along
Cool hand-studies, and the color tkingies are awesome!
marie: glad to see you want to work on other parts of the body rather than just hands, but remember to keep sketching the hands even when doing other stuff to keep your skills sharp
also, its very cool to see you wanting to LEARN code instead of just using dreamweaver. I am a skilled web designer in HTML and PHP so if you need any help or just want to talk about webdesign in general you can contact me anytime. just check my profile for all my contact info
keep up the good work.
I my girlfriend & my book of sketches
thank you very much steak-tron
and Legacy I might just take you up on that offer when I return from my trip!
I'll be back around february 4th or so to post my sketchbook from the trip, take care until then.
Ok I've been sketching quite a bit lately after a long bout with not being able to hold a pencil. I even tried to sketch some then (the things you will do with scotch tape) but seeing as I couldn't control my hand either its scary
this is a little guy I did a while back for a DSG, a little construct.
Been trying to work on portraits lately, forcing myself to do speed paintings in an attempt to relax when I draw/paint.
this is a portrait of my sister in law, its not finished at all (especially the hair), I have to say that I'm learning a lot by doing this so far. Come back a day later and look at it and realize the large mistakes I've made that I didn't see the day before.
Here is a nude sketch/painting (in painter), figured I'd put a link since I didn't warn about nudity in the subject... figure
Most of the color stuff I do in Painter...
I need to get scanning so there is more sketching in here too.
Marie (sorry for being gone so long!)

Update: I've tried to do some sketching every night, I'm kinda of scard to post some of it. But I will post some now and more later because I promised some friends I would. Currently (and this is no excuse for my quality hehe) just so you its clear, some if it is... done while heavily medicated, being a small person (80lb) I never partook in mind altering drugs, just observed most of my friends doing them... ironically it is now in my life that I am forced to take them so I can get better. I've been told to keep drawing through it and post it, just for the interesting fact to see the difference. I'm not even sure how noticable the difference is, except that i notice as i'm drawing that i'm less inhibited and probably more apt to fall asleep while doing it.
Notice the scary horse in the middle? I don't even remember drawing that lol... I can't even believe i took it that far. The bunnies... all referenenced off the internet.
Jackrabbits are different than bunnies... so lean and fast...also referenced off the interent (done in a think with a think Lowe's Home improvement store pencil so... why do i even have that pencil...).
Mice!! (ref'd off the internet) Some need to go on the atkins diet.
Feet, ref'd from pics i took on my digi cam. I would have more for you, but... in my absentmindedness let both sets of my batteries go dead... so I'll resume tomorrow!
nothing amazing, just...sketches! got to keep this up.
Here is some stuff I worked on in painter... so afraid to post this, mostly because I have the great urge to ... crumple them up, but alas I can't ... its digital and my husband says i'm not allowed to delete anymore of my artwork heh.
This... is smudgey/dirty. I think it would do me good to do it all over again and try to get it.. cleaner? fix some issues. The face killed me, I had a lot of trouble with it.
Ok... this...started as a dsg try, angel of death. I took a pic with my digital camera... there was a fork in her hand (there is meaning behind that and angel of death). And as I worked on it, it just decided to mean something else. It is NOT finished and is on hold...because frankly I have a LOT to learn about perspective, enviornment, lighting and making the figure appear to be in the enviornment.
What I will say about the angel picture, is I did learn a lot from it so far. I realized that I need to start from square one on the things I mentioned. So now I have a goal to attain.
This is my first real attempt at putting the figure into a fantasy/creative setting, and real first attempt at adding a background... it was a good exercise... just to get over that FEAR that always made me stop and not do it. So I'm very happy that I did get as far as I did! and want to scold myself at the same time for not thinking it through.
goals I set for myself in the coming weeks are to pull out my old perspective notes, start from square one. Do some exercises in it, and create some backgrounds, then move to understanding lighting more, staging different thigns to draw from/paint from with different lighting. And to really read those great lighting tutorials that I only skimmed over before.

Just some figure studies in painter, and a few sketches.
A few figure sketches
A couple studies in painter, I think the more I do the more comfortable I am becoming with it.
(will be working on both some more a bit)
The color ones in painter, I am really really enjoying doing!

Thank you Yoell, I think I'm still finding my style, or its finding me... however that works. I'm off to bed, its my sleep time, I'm having so much fun with these, I'll try to update again soon (and not a month from now...).
I'll bet most of us who don't sketch enough (or as much as we want to) are making that new years resolution to sketch everyday. I've actually started this a bit into december.
For christmas I was so happy to recieve 5 different sketchbooks, 2 of which are the spiral kind, so I hope hope hope they are easier to scan in than the others
I've sketched almost every day since mid december, practice here and there, some projects. This isn't all of it, so I suppose another thing I need to do is get a routine of sketch and scan down.
ok, the first 2 are crappy sketches from photos off the net, I just go through and sketch, there are many many other pages of these I'm having a heck of a time scanning in.
next are two of komodo dragons, I plan to use them in a piece in the future, one I want to do a very good job on, because its for a very special friend and family member (so i'm starting early with the studies)
Did this for the dsg 632 (and didn't post it.. whats wrong with me), its a fairy and her weapon, which by the way is a poppy. Very quick, loose and experimenting with the tools/brushes in painter.
Just a random color sketch, working on the figure and it must of really signified somewhat of the way I was feeling that day. *unfinished... what isn't*
And last but not least, what I'm doing right now and enjoying ever ever so much. Last D&D game I got a request for a ToadHawk, the request came inbetween spurts of giggles. I decided to take it seriously and paint it... this is a work in progress:
I'm having so much fun with this... he's not too big, the size of a hawk or smaller, but don't be fooled, this sucker can claw out your eyes... and if you see a swarm of them... you are in for some hurting.
Thats it for now, I will try very hard for the new year to do a few things:
1. sketch everyday (i do this already)
2. Post my sketching/projects (I sorely lack here)
3. Finish something (i finished a bowl of mint chocolate chip icecream just last night!)
4. Never ever stop learning! (live by this)
thanks for looking, its not much, I will try to keep this up... perhaps I'll program that new pda to beep at me every other day to update.

toadhawk...genius(*laughs silently)...good and comical with your very tight style...your work is delicious....i want a bit more of that and this and...ooh....can you make more of that so i can have more...but seriously...nice progression...keep it up...
Thank you very much warlock .. heh the group is extremely excited about having the ToadHawk illustrated, what started as a joke is most likely going to show up in a compaign now.
It has a lot of tweaking and cleaning up to do, it needs some tail feathers. I had some and they looked all wrong, so they felt the might of the eraser.
I have requested that they give me more projects to do, I can't believe how much I am enjoying this type of thing... supposedly next is an elf who's toad familiar keeps being the only reason he doesn't die... so I've got to illustrate him unconcious with this toad standing over him protectively. Going to make it very comical, as it is a source of humor for the entire group.
thanks again for looking and commenting.
nice work. No real crits...just enjoyed stopping by.
Keep it up!
Encouragement keeps me swimming , even in the undertow of disappointment.
Marie, I like your female studies and the komodo studies are great - they even show humorous aspects of those nasty beasts. Good job!
The toad hawk is such a crazy idea, perhaps you coukld push it even further, with bone/muscle anatomy studies, sights of the critter while hunting, feeding, sleeping and so on.
Cool, that is a great idea and thank you Jester. I started doing some sketches and looking at toad and bird skeletons, then realized I was letting my mind jump around again too much and so I'm focusing on the toadhawk image at the moment, though you gave me so many ideas... wish I could just feed my thoughts into some sort of computerized pda thing to keep them all straight.
Here is an update of the Toadhawk so far:
I'm dreading working on some sort of background, want it to be simple, perhaps more symbolic, but still something, heck even a shadow.
Been a long time
First two are portraits I did while visiting family, crayola, tried to do them very quickly yet still get a likeness. There are several more than my mother apprehended, so i've got to get her to scan them for me.
My niece Tina
My little sister kelly, who was unhappy it took me more than 60 seconds heh, she's got williams syndrome, I dont' know if you can tell from the portrait, but generally like downs syndrome children you can id a williams syndrome child by looks (at least those familiar).
random (the two guys in bottom right look really familiar... I am wondering if I didn't subconciously create them inspired by something I've seen before... that feeling nags at me)
can barely see this, its watercolor and a bit light. Was done for the kids, it has wings and a curly tail which just wouldn't scan.
Trying to learn to work with watercolors
I am at once finding it difficult and fun, seems to be the mood Im in for watercolor.
just some sketching
I know its been a long time since update, I'll hopefully try to do it more often.
A bit of advice for those scanner impared. When its not working at all, don't make it more difficult than it is... just reach down... and plug it in
Now that I've got it working plugged in, I just need to figure out how to get my light handed sketching to show up. have read some threads on it, but so far Im not too successful. I can change the levels and or curves in ps, but then it just looks... so.. different, and loses so much. I suppose it also gains a bit too...
