Got a little sketchbook dump. I lost it for a bit so I haven't been scanning these in. Also started another sketchbook because I thought I lost the old one for good but my friend found it finally. Some of these probably don't make sense visually. I'm playing around with how I actually see things through my glasses and how they break up different planes in space...

Here's some sketches I've done recently, still on that ball point binge. Other work will come next.
And here's the oils I've been working on. Lot of portraiture as always and a landscape and still life whenever I can. I've also been busy with being in a show last month, a show at the Union League of Chicago tomorrow (more info on my blog), commission work, and personal work on top of it all. Hope everyone out there is doing great, this summer's going to be very interesting.

Wow Adam so much to look at. It all looks fab to me. The ball point sketches have some great gestural lines in them and look really interesting. Can I ask how you manage to keep them so clean looking, do you put in a few really light lines first?
I really like the oils as well a couple that stand out to me are the lady in the white top, your brush marks on the top look great and the white just sings out. I also really like what I think is a self portrait below. As always great inspiration for me.
Man, your drawings are absolutely gorgeous. I'm going through some pretty tough times and somehow these drawings of yours really do something good for me, something I can't say about too many things these days. they even make me feel like I should pick up a pencil once again. Marian Rowling - I do usually throw down some gestured lines down very lightly so I can go over them with an accurate mark with different line weights. I think they look clean because I tend to really draw with the least amount of lines as I can get away with sometimes. I don't do it on purpose, it's more on the subconscious level.

Coen - That's really kind of you to say, having any sort of impact on someone really makes me smile.
Nick Podraza - Whattup Nick! Kane's portrait was just painted normally, hardly any thick paint, it just looks like that because I tend to not use any medium and hard bristle brushes leave very pronounced valleys of the stroke. But I make sure to usually pick up enough paint so that when a brush stroke is made, the brush doesn't touch the canvas. When I figured that out it really helped me.
Got the weekly oil portrait. Sticking with my 11 x 17 format, I started by spilling some Neo Megilp on the canvas and rubbing that in. While that set in for a few minutes I got ready though I was so tired that day from the previous all nighter I eventually left half an hour early so this was done in 2.5 hours. I ran out of paint on my palette and after I painted the forehead I had only 3 colors left so it created this interesting absence of color after the highlight leaves the forehead. Being this tired, I experimented a little. Didn't go for likeness, didn't really get it spot on, but I like the painting for what it became.
All the other drawings are sketches from a recent figure drawing marathon held at school. It went on from 8 am to 5 pm. I started out rusty, charcoal on newsprint and after the first page I switched to a much smoother carbon pencil. Variety of 1 to 25 minute poses.
those lines man, dig them. Those bottom portraits have such a great balance of tones in them.
Nice drawings again mate, great expression. Would love to see that translated in your prtraits. Although your last series post with the self portrait seems alrdy alot more expressional. really like the 3 portraits after your self portrait.
As always keep it up, i'd love to see some situational genre painting from your hand. Also i'd love to see the paintings that dont make it to this forum. Great stuff.

These skull studies are something I've been wanting to get into more because these two are the first skulls I've painted (or cared to paint) and I want to expand upon these some more. I really favor the first one and might do a larger, more intricate painting of it. Otherwise I've been kind of doing a self portrait study along side all the other work just to keep experimenting and seeing what things I can observe. A portrait of my watercolor instructor from last Summer and one of my great friends, Conrad, which I did a few days back.
