i got a new Moleskin, so pumped, i havent had one since highschool. so i decided to decorate the inside cover with a marker sketch of Hal Jordan, green lantern.
Someone's been busy!
That's an awesome way to start a sketchbook, and great to see you hitting the markers some more!! Looking forward to seeing what you produce in the ol' mole.
Oh, and that kick ass image is looking sweet, that close-up in the background is particularly awesome! Great form and material in that foreground to, the wrinkles are great, although something is bothering me about his pose, although I can't quite figure out what sorry :p
But yeah, keep up the hard work!
danlambert - hey Dan, thanks for dropping by man. i think i know what you mean about that kick ass piece, ive always had a tough time spotting where peoples feet should land, and keeping it in perspective. i think the perspective on his feet are off, ill make some adjustments before i color that one. thanks for the extra eye bro!
photo studies, done in my moleskin w/ markers and pen.
haha, i love getting a new moleskin - nothing like figuring out something super awesome to cover the first pages with! Love the Lantern pic, its good some really nice values... which is coincidentally something your digitals lack a little, definitely push some darker and lighter values into your digital stuff. They look very grey all over.
Keep it up dude!
Interesting to see the development of your work, clearly you are coming along since posting to this sketchbook. Keep drawing.
PHATandy - thanks man, yea i know my digitals are looking very grey, its because im afraid of getting real dark with them. something im hoping these marker sketches will loosen me up for.
imnotanoob - thanks man!
Smellypunks - thank you!
heres another photo study, markers and pen in the moleskin.
another good addition to the moleskin
Oren90 - thanks!
Sourgasm - thanks man!
Hamorhage - thank you! still have tons to work on as far as anatomy goes though.
Jordan85 - thanks man!
ok this is a master copy of a piece by Graydon Parrish. i did this one on pastel paper, with black and white colored pencil.
Yooo, nice studies and sketches! I love your style; trés funky and dynamic! And the last few pieces are really nice and clean, makes me wanna pick up some pastel paper... Mouth looks a bit off-centre on the last head study though, but that might just be me. Keep it up!
How are you finding your course by the way? I thought it was pretty damn difficult to find decent games design courses to apply to, most of them were just coding degrees with some Maya thrown in :s
andrea w - hey thanks! i found out about my college through a family friend who knew the dean. she knew i was into art, and recommended that i take a look at the college. i found out that they offered a pretty new degree program in video game design, so i checked it out, and it seemed to be pretty damn cool. ive always loved concept art, and looser pieces more than finished illustrations, so i thought it would fit me perfectly.
the program is pretty new for them, (i think its only a couple years old), but it was just ranked pretty high i think 4th best on the east coast of the states. plus like 90% of the graduates are hooked up with an industry job after they finish, so that was what really hooked me. im glad to hear that you love your courses, hopefully this fall ill be able to agree with you.
