I'm taking painting2 at my local JUCO and I need to buy acrylic paint again. so my question is: should I buy more expensive paint like Golden, or stick with the cheap gunk? will better materials help?
If it's an introductory painting class, get the cheap paint and buy decent brushes instead.
Look after them, don't let acrylic dry on them.
EditNot nearly as much as experience or practice will. You'll know when you need better materials, but brushes you can keep..will better materials help?
Better brushes are well worth the money though, as they will give you better control, and if you take really good care of them they should last a long time.
Also, if you aren't given a set color selection to buy, I'd suggest going with a limited palette. Many beginners think you need a ton of colors to paint, but in reality many of those colors are really just short cuts to colors you can get fairly close to anyways. You'll learn more about color if you force yourself to mix as many colors as you can get away with. You can slowly add more colors when you have a better feel of what you can't mix on your own.
