Hey, my name's Nick and this is my sketchbook.
I'm 16 years old, I've been drawing for a while. I should be taking art lessons this summer with money I won at a local art competition. I have a tablet, but I'm not comfortable with it yet. Most of my work is drawn with pencil and then scanned. I've also got a few pieces with post editing, and a few done in chalk pencils etc. I'm always looking for ways to improve and any constructive criticism.
Please note, these are only the ones I've uploaded. I'm usually too lazy to scan and go through that whole process. Once I've gotten adjusted to my tablet and find out what software works best, I hope I'll really take of with that instead!
And heres something I've worked on since I've posted this... I'm really adamant on using my tablet so I thought I'd start with something basic

I try to keep things interesting and moving
Okay well heres a lips study i've been working on... I'll finish it tomorrow.
The lips study is done! I liked how this piece turned out
A little preview of a project coming up. Sorry for no posts recently, still doing art just hesitant to post with such little activity on my sketchbook.
Another piece, this time a Meat Monster!
Crits please. Posts please. Something. Thanks.
the pencil guy on "ATOMIC" picture is great (much beter than paintings)
nice lips study - expresive reflections, but I would just use more hard brush and clean it up to make skin more smooth to let the contures stand out, than you can see tham better and better correct. Bigger picture resolution when painting could also help (like oversample 2x - 4x the resolution in which you wish to publish, memory of computer is big neought )
The last two - I know you want heroic character, but the head is to small even though. Pose is fairly good, but agin - try to paint it more sharp to realize the conturs. Realy nice think about it is the green lightning from behind, thats one think I also try to practice - colorful lightsources makes realy cool impressions
I really enjoy your work. I struggle getting my pieces so have the same purpose and full-scenario that yours carry.
I'll take your crits to heart and get back to working on my pieces.
And the Meat Monster is done and ready to eat! (double meaning)
Hopefully getting some stuff up...

A number of summer assignments are required to be done for my AP Art Studio class this coming fall. One of which was a full figure self portrait to be done. I wanted you guys to tell me what you think. Unfortunately, my scanner and my operating system are not entirely compatible at this point, and scanning seems like a no-go until i figure this out.
Looks like it'll be more of this digital stuff for a while
This ones maybe half done? Ideas? Critiques?
Still looking for direction in it, just sorta practicing basics so far.
Getting back into the whole digital thing again.
When I start taking pictures for my AP portfolio, those pieces will all get put up as well!
Okay, here it goes. This is a BIG upload.
Most of what I've done in AP Studio this year, aside from what is still at shows etc.
Comments very much appreciated! Second semester concentration coming up. I think I've decided to study the Post-Apocalyptic subject matter. Things showing starvation, ruins, things used for an unintended purpose etc. I KNOW this is a great place to look for advice on that!
Another note, the high contrast portrait of the Indonesian boy was actually done through a program called The Memory Project, that connects orphans from around the world with Artists and allows the children to receive self portraits so that they can define for themselves a better self-image.
I love the idea of painting the orphans. It's also my favorite one, too! I also ike the one with all the glass. I think you should practie symmetry studies with faces because I see a lot of them being skewed to the side. What's you theme for your portfolio? I want to do AP Studio Art next year but I'm not sure what kind of picture you're supposed to do?
Thanks! Yeah I've noticed that too. My classroom is very fast paced and I usually screw up the proportions rushing through my sketches. I'll try my best to work on those so that they don't show in the final products.I love the idea of painting the orphans. It's also my favorite one, too! I also ike the one with all the glass. And my concentration theme is post apocalyptic, basically the world after it's ended. Lots of stuff with ruins and the reuse of pre-war stuff and the like.
One idea is a self portrait of myself on a throne of garbage, with a scepter and a crown. The crown is probably going to be a tin can all cut up. I'm very excited for it!
