p sage: Thanks, I will, I can already feel the improvement just from the past few studies
Incinerated: Yep, your right, didn't spend too long on it, I'm still struggling with proportion and this is why I've been doing all these studies, thanks for the input, much appreciated
miycko: , the internet seems to be running properly again thanks, it's supposed to be like a metal plate over his torso, not that your able to tell at this point in time, might have to do some more metal studies or something I will, thanks for visiting
Today I tried to to imprint in my mind the rules of proportion ie. the 8 heads theory,so I decided to tackle another figure from imagination while keeping this rule in mind, still not too great (especially those legs, there starting to get frustrating...) but getting better I think, oh and a small head study, enjoy

You're right. That is better. The proportions are getting much closer.
Now it's just a bit more of that to get it locked down... and on to anatomy.
But seriously... lock down the proportion stuff. That's good practice. And this pic is one of your best so far.
p sage: Thanks seems though some of the information stuck but not enough, guess thats where repetition comes into it hopefully in a few weeks I will start the anatomy stuff again (posemaniacs) thanks again
miycko: Thanks, Paul from tekken 3? that brings back memories thanks again for dropping by
Just a few studies for today
Edit: figure 12 came out a little wide I think, might have measures something wrong that is all.....
More Riven Phoenix.... wideoes. I like his wideoes. I bought his wideoes and moved his wideoes from the crap DVD-Rs he sells to a folder called wideoes on my hard drive
He explains the skull really well... and it looks like you're picking that up.
Keep going with that... I only got through the first seven wideoes or so... before going to something else
It'll be fun to see your progress.
p sage: No Riven wideos today He does explain the skull very well, lets hope that we see some progress guess it isn't going to happen over night Thanks for the ongoing support
Today a face from imagination inspired by a tutorial I bought down at Idrawgirls dot com, learned a few useful tips too
I think that for once in this entire SB the face turned out looking as it was intended to (female) pretty happy today, even looking back a page I feel like I've improved a tad
The face is not bad, but look at the perspective on the head, especially the crown of the skull.
Take a look at some skulls; study them. I don't just mean Rivens' skulls... I mean check them out in 3D. You may begin to see why her head looks off. It's like you can see both the top of her head (all the way to the back) as well as the front of her face (which is of course impossible).
It's perspective again... and the head isn't necessarily easy to draw in perspective; but once you can do that...
Allrigt I like this last face! big step!
I think it needs some work though. I did a quick paintover to show what I mean and what (according to me) is skew.
The portrait is leaning a bit to the left. By flipping the image when painting you spot "lean" earlier and its easy to repair. I moved around some facial features and gave her a shadow on her nose. to reduce the lean. I tried to paint as little as possible so it still be the way you painted it.
I hope its helpful and that it gives you some pointers on what to think about when making portraits. Good job and keep up the good work!

Had no time today , had to wip up something, took 10 minutes if that... thanks everyone, b-man you rock, will thank you guys in detail tomorrow + post a half decent update.... this update makes me sick
Well, if you're sick, it's because of all the cookies and ice cream in here
There are days like that; always remember they will be there. No matter how good you get, you will get days when you feel like you cant draw anything. The trick is to forget them quickly and throw hard work at the problem. Seems like most people, when they start feeling "sick" about their work, when applying hard work to the problem, "level up" their abilities. You see it over and over again here on CA.
B-Man's crit is excellent, and shows what was going on with the head and hair better than I could have explained it.
Hope to see another update quickly!
p sage: Just had a really slow day, and didn't feel like drawing, I will get back on the horse and post some good stuff soon (hopefully ) B-man had an awesome crit didn't he time t learn from it and get better thanks for the support, I really appreciate it
Dy.laneA: I will, thanks, hope this "rocks"
I did this today to combat a few of the mistakes I did on my last face, B-man's awesome explanation helped me with some troubled areas (hope it shows), I also hpe that I improved a bit from last time with all the tips you guys gave me, thanks for the support, you guys rock
Edit: Her brow is supposed to be raised to clear things up, guess I shoul have said that earlier otherwise I would have made it more aligned with her other brow

very pretty face, she kinda reminds me of Elika from the new prince of persia game man i love that game & what p sage said was right on the money, now would be a good time to take a step back & have a look at the progress you've made the last couple weeks. you're making great progress here my friend keep at it

Some improvement there Your perspective issues are getting sorted.
Dy has a good point there. The brow ridge is a bone that protrudes almost like a pair of goggles. Ref a real skull if possible.
And the eyebrow starts off on the underside of this ridge (near the nose) and halfway through it passes over the ridge onto the forehead (toward the outside corner of the eye socket)
Riven Phoenix does a good job explaining that shape, (it almost looks like a pair of handlebars with a pair of longhorn-horns attached to the top of them, or something).
Just takes some more anatomy study.
The main point is you're improving
Thanks everyone, will reply and comment in your sketch books tomorrow, wasn't at home at all today, got back just before midnight, need sleep, got a headache and this is all I could do hogarth study with a headache while sleep deprived...going to have a good one for you guys tomorrow, free day without distractions
Miycko: Thanks so much , prince of persia games rock I feel like my strokes are a little more cnfident no, and I've learned heaps from everyones helpful comments, thanks again Miycko
Liquidjack: Thanks , I feel I learned something from b-man, I will keep it up (I hope ) thanks
Dy.LaneA: Thanks for the paintover, I get what you mean, looks like theres no bone there (in my one)
p sage: Thanks, I get ya, I'm kind of doing tthis with a vague knowledge (bad idea) I will get onto the studies asap thanks again for the support

lots of improvement here, I can totally agree with the others that you´re getting better from day to day. I´m not the specialist in figure drawing but what I see looks really good
btw I have also watched some Riven Phoenix vids, that guy is really amazing and I will continue studying these too when I have more time. I will check back asap, keep it up
android411: Thanks so much I better start using those vids aain, there really helpful, thanks for stopping by
Had some fun today (another face ) should have done studies though, I better start them tomorrow otherwise I will focus too much on faces and have no idea how to construct the body
My ispiration came from guildwars 1 (the elementalist) well just the fire thing, used to play that game way too much back in the day
Edit: I kind of forgot to flip the canvas, hope it doesn't stand out too much
Hi there! Im glad the crit helped!
I think that if you flip this last one youll se that theres some things that need work. Not alot of work just some moving around. So flip it and play ariound. And if you still feel stuck I can give you some more advise.
Keep it up!
hey bro ive been following you for a little while now, you are putting in a lot of work its paying off
go for some landscape man i think it will help you with value a lot
keep it coming !
also i dont think views and stars should be your goal not a very healthy attitude IMO focus on doing the best as an artist the rest will all follow
"Poor is the pupil who does not surpass his master
Keep it coming. I think the face is a big improvement from before the B-man crit and tut. Like he said the small imperfections can be worked at, but this is from imagination, yes? Play with women pics (insert joke here) and really get down the facial structure placement.
Thanks a bunch for taking a look at my sketchbook... C:
I'll admit, I skimmed yours. Good work you have so far. I'd suggest trying to be looser with your full body stuff - their poses look so stiff. The proportions look good overall, and dammit, you're faces rock.
Keep it up.
I haven't dropped by for some time and you already did a massive ammount of updates. Studying proportions is definitely good idea. Just pay atention and look carefully at what Bman advised. Your digital works still has a bit of a plastic feel, but it will be better anysoon, i believe in you. *thumbs up*
B-Man: Hey b-man, your right, I forgot to do it and noticed just as I had posted, will remember from now on in thanks again b-man
Zorcron: Your right, might try one, don't know where to start though wiped the goals section clean, It was more to track certain stats so I could look back on them but it doesn't matter anymore
liquidjack: Thanks , there are a fair bit of mistakes but I guess it's all part of learning, yup she is from imagination 100%, think I'm going to post studies for a bit thanks again for stopping by
A'mihisss: No problem , thanks , your right they are stiff, guess this is because I'm incapable of drawing the human figure at this point i time, need more studies, thanks, will try my best to make them even better
p sage: Thanks, think your right, she's kind of stylised I guess
Icecold: YAY I'm winning favor your right, I need to do more studies I think, will help with the plastic feel too, thanks for stopping by and having belief in me
miycko: Thanks I will, studies for a while I think Thanks for the support
Incinerated: Thanks, your right, I really need to focus on my troubled areas, less sleep = better art I like it
Thanks again everybody, will return the favor tomorrow
Quick, sketchy and rough for today, didn't even refine the features, didn't spend too much time on ps today so it doesn't look too good, going back into study mode for a while, especially proportion oops I even forgot to flip the canvas......I'm going to get a postit not and stick it on my computer monitor
Edit: Well I just realised how "unrefined" the nose looks, she looks like an alien
