New Painting: Chinese Assassin, based on Assassin's Creed games. I was thinking about doing an Chinese Assassin since I start playing AC II. It's fun to imagine a big international organization like that actually existed in Ancient time.
I started this painting without reference picture, which is a big mistake... His face is still not quite right and his arms are stiff... Oh well...
was hesitate of doing this painting. I've painted one Chinese lady, now I'm painting another one... When I was in art school, I was told the worst thing for an artist is to repeat him/herself. A true artist always strike to create something different, to push the limit, to trying new subject, new style... The moment you repeat yourself is the moment you stop growing, it's the moment you die as an artist.
Powerful speech, right~ LOL. yeah, and it landed in my stupid and idealistic heart. And I've always trying my very best to always trying new things, keep learning keep growing...
So when I started this painting, I was afraid that this is the moment I repeat myself, and this is the moment I die as an artist.
And then I remembered... I don't really care about growing as an artist, not anymore. I just want to paint and have fun. So I paint Chinese girls twice, or 300 times, as long as I'm happy, I'll keep painting it. And if I get bored (which is very likely), I'll paint something else.
So I finished this painting, and I'm not sure what I'll paint next.
Oh, and... Merry Christmas.
A little Work in Progress update for today. These are the boys~ Dorian Gray and Lord Henry Wotton. I don't like the book, but I have this idea of a double portrait, and they just kind of emerged from my imagination. So have to finish them. I have little reference for these two, so might have structural or anatomy issue.
The hardest part for tonight is actually Dorian's "sensual lips". I thought he ought to have "sensual lips", but turns out, male "sensual lips" are a lot harder to paint than female lips. Now they're not "sensual" enough because I haven't put high light on yet.
Wow! Most impressive work! Very confident line work, fan of your light/tone work too especially on your 'Elizabeth' image.
keep up the good work!
Really good portraits, the colors are so vivid and the expressions so unique in everyone! Great work
Dorian Gray and Lord Henry Wotton
I don't like the book, it's probably the most narcissistic book I've read (Oscar Wilde sid himself: "Basil Hallward is what I think I am: Lord Henry is what the world thinks me: Dorian is what I would like to be—in other ages, perhaps". I mean, com'on!!! Can you be any narcissistic than that?! me me me.... Every page I read, it's all about the humongous ego of Oscar Wilde... ) ... and amongst all kinds of psychos, I hate narcissists the most.
That being said, I have this idea about a slight "Yaoi" flavored, double portrait, and who fit better than Dorian Gray and Lord Harry?
So here you go, Oscar Wilde and Oscar Wilde... I mean Dorian Gray and Lord Henry Wotton.
As for the painting itself, Dorian Gray has the skin of a deadman because he's pretty much a deadman, Harry is more worldly, so he has tan skin. He's looking at Dorian, but since Dorian is so self absorbed, he looks at no one.
I really enjoy seeing how you render
keep up the hard work
have a good one

Hey there. Been a while since i dropped anything here. I like your updates. especially the cigarette commercial. That looks awesome!
I also like the diva~ piece very much. Nice expression and all. But I noticed lack of contrast or edges in some areas around the neck when the skin meets the fur scarf(?), it's noticeable especially when looking at the necklaces that have a fairly high contrast.
Well in all, you're doing great. Keep it up!
