Naidy - merci
huckmedi - short and sweet. thanks dude
well everyone else seems to do digital painting so i thought id start trying to learn. this is my first attempt at something from life and it happened to be a sp. started off as a doodle. pretty messy .
You got the cast shadow on the tubes okay. Digital painting is like traditional, but sort of different. Sounds weird, but what you learn in one, you can take into the other as long as you don't use too many "digital tricks".
got frustrated with this and gave up. contrasts too low and just generally messy. digital painting has been rea;;y fun though so ill keep on trying
the right eye is horribly shit

last post didnt bump the thread grrrr
Keep it up! nice work.
A tip would be start off with 3 values. A mid-tone a light and a shadow tone. Define The form so it looks correct and 3 dimensional. After that you can add perhaps 2 more values and it will surely look great. you know, to restrain yourself. Try it and show me how it goes
Silwynar - thanks a lot
Wr00m - thanks man yeah i need to concentrate on form before details i think
Roboko - thanks man
some more digital practice - painting of the lamp on my desk. i kinda felt like i was cheating using the soft edged brush for the highlights so i think ill stick with the default hard edged brush
thought i might stick this up before i go to bed. w.i.p for digital sp number 3. taking a different approach.
i feel like im getting more comfortable drawing digitally which is nice
Hey, this sketchbook is looking great. It seems like you really know what you're doing when it comes to your still lifes and studies! And at only 17, wow. I'm in a similar situation, 16 and running out of time to get better for a portfolio, so you're posts are very helpful to me. I would love to see more digital still lifes
hey there!! great stuff you have here, boldly trying everything and just going for it.
those last three posts - the digital works - they're quite impressive for having never done digital before!! the third one definitely looks the most promising, and you're on the right track with the "line sketch first" approach. may i suggest, though, that it's extremely helpful to "build" a portrait on paper first? by building i mean establishing the main shapes, lines, places of shadow and light, proportions, etc. i see you've done skulls, so placing shadows and light should not be a problem, but proportions and general facial feature placement will benefit a lot from a preliminary sketch.
good luck, i'll be visiting!
my teeth and ambitions are bared - be prepared
Do you believe in this sketchbook?
That last one looks great so far. My only advice at this point is, try to approach your digital drawings and paintings in the same way that you would a traditional piece. The essentials are the same for digital images; you just have a few shortcuts and safety locks at your disposal digitally. Personally, I start with a line sketch then build up 3 layers of value as Wr00m mentioned. Also I've found that it's helpful to get in the habit of drawing the foreground (or main subject) on a new layer above the background so I don't have to rework my edges when I develop the backdrop.
[B]Marlee -[B] thanks. its nice to know when there are other teens around
believer- thanks a lot dude those are some good things to keep in mind
dierat - as always thanks for coming by
^dude on the train
i completely screwed up that self portrait by saving the psd in the resolution i posted the jpeg on here, so like 500 wide. made it very hard to paint
i guess it looks alright, if a bit dull
Your faces are getting better all the time, I particularly like your last selfportrait too, it has bitta character to it
Keep on messing around and experimenting with digital, I bet you'll come up with some real snazzy things.
Keep up the good work as always mate!
Nice skills raffix your art studies really interesting.
keep it up man
my sketch book
FACEBOOK rafid falah
At this rate your PF will WoW the people lol Nothing really to add, cause I assume you know what your doing . I've been saying this a lot today, are you doing a lot of cubes? they help a lot over all with just about everything. I don't know what your going for but you don't seem to have that many poses or gestures or anything like that. lol I don't know where i was going with that but anyways keep going!
Hey raffix, the digi stuff is getting better all the time. Looks like your traditional knowledge is translating nicely. Maybe set up a nice lighting situation and do a color self p. Also, after you make a basic lay-in below the line drawing, paint on a layer above the lines to work on edges and stuff (which will also get rid of the lines). Keep at it man GO GO GO
great stuff man, we can really see the progress, and i realy like those watercolor paintings. keep drawing/painting and keep posting! cheers!

Eddiee - thanks dude will do
this wip sp is very early stages but i like to keep the thread mving. im feeling more and more comfortable with a tablet with every piece i draw. doing it in blue to force me to paint out all the lines, like Eddieee said
You're getting on well with the digital stuff, keeping it simple, and look forward to seeing the coloured versions.
On the most recent portrait it seems that the head is pointing to its right while the nose is pointing to its left.
You're doing some good work in here, keep at it!
Dude, I'm utterly jealous. All I can say is - apart from thank you very much for your pearls of wisdom in my thread - is that I wish you came to my college, because I'd constantly be pestering you for tips Keep it up!
Wow, you've really improved since I last checked here :| You make me want to try doing a self portrait.
Although I'm kinda concerned that my university competition will be just as skilled as you and I'll not get in ha ha ;_;
Nice work on the digis, I know what you mean about eyes. I always do one that looks fantastic and the other one comes out shit and I kill the whole face.
